Darren Sharper and Clint Ingram Placed on PUP List; Will Miss First Six Regular Season Games
Brian Allee-Walsh of NewOrleans.com has reported that Darren Sharper and Clint Ingram have both been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list, meaning they will not be able to play in the first six regular season games for the New Orleans Saints, regardless of whether they recover from their injury before that time.
Of all the news we have received the last few weeks, I have to say the Sharper update is the most worrisome. Sharper and his myriad interceptions and pick six's were crucial in a few of the Saints victories last season. Without them, this defense will really need to step up their play to ensure a strong start to the season.
After all the trash talking and tweeting he did against the Vikings, I have to say I'm now a little disappointed in Sharper. If he knew there was even the remote possibility that he would not be ready by week one, he should have simply kept his mouth shut. Just my personal opinion.
Malcolm Jenkins is expected to get the start at free safety in place of Sharper, which also has me shaking in my tube socks.

Thanks Dave!
for the props. Me thinks I need to go alter my signature as the nickname is starting to stick. I did get out scooped by 2 minutes on the Patrick Ramsey release. Posting/typing failure :p

Well said Dave
Yeah that trash talking got outta hand and he should have kept his mouth shut. I really hope the D can step it up and not give up huge plays. Most importantly, we must stop the run. Maybe this will really show what Jenkins is all about. Maybe he can be a hero the first 6 games. Play hard Malcolm!!
If Jenkins plays well, Sharper is backup for the season
"Here's the funny thing. Last night, I couldn't sleep too well. I called my dad (Bill) at 2:15 in the morning, and told him I had a feeling I was going to hit the game-winner from 42 yards on the right hash. I think I was two yards off."- Garrett Hartley
True…he’ll still probably end up doing what John Carney did in the second half of last year. Just there as a mentor for the younger guys. Which is too bad, I’d have liked to see him break Woodson’s pick six record

Both of them have your tube socks?

wwltvsports NewOrleans.com reporting that Clint Ingram, like Darren Sharper, will begin season on PUP list.
There’s the answer to the Ingram question

An alternate take on Sharper
He took all the heat onto himself. The Vikings were seething, could hardly wait for a chance to pound Sharper into a grease spot. Now they won’t get that chance…will there be an emotional let-down on their part? Is Sharper jerky like a fox?
Eh, probably he’s just a jerk. But he’s our jerk.
It was worth the wait.
AND, he's in the perfect position to continue to talk smack and not worry about having to back it up
he makes a nice lightening rod – and then we smack ‘em upside the head with a nice dose of Galette comin’ off the end
It's gonna be a great year.

I wonder if
they aren’t just trying to keep him off the field and let him get ready for the stretch run while getting Jenkins into the scheme of things on a full-time basis. Then G-Dub can run some of his crazy schemes with extra DB’s by putting them on the field together. I’d like to see how that would look.

I am okay with the fact that he will be out for 6 weeks.
If you remember he played his best when he was healthy. I would rather him be healthy the last stretch of the season rather than the first stretch.

At the end of the season, he wasn’t performing at his best. We all saw that, or at least I did. Part of it was the absense of our 2 cb’s and him having to go man to man. Which we saw him get beat a few times. I think this will be MJ’s chance to shine.
I hope MJ shines, but he has me worried and that's exactly who Minnesota will go at.
They either schemed to try and embarrass DSharp or go at his sub, Jenkins. And, by the way, in regards to Sharper and the last 1/2 of the season- he held that defensive backfield together with people like Mackenzie and McAllister playing who were new rusty and Gay, Usama, Torrence, Jenkins playing etc. It wasn’t him that was the problem, it was the rotating sub situation (Prioleau also) . He was the glue and he had to play conservatively to be able to cover for their mistakes. Not fair to say he didn’t play well- we would have been sunk without him and the offense was sputtering at times during one stretch putting more pressure on the D. Sharper is a really hard hitting safety also and he had some great hits late in the season. Free safeties do that also and he doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves for that aspect of his game. We will miss him for (hopefully only) 6 games.
