Fleur-de-Links September 4, 2010 : Measure Twice, Cut Once

Or, in the case of Bobby McCray, cut twice.

This afternoon's edition brings you the follow-ups to yesterday afternoon's fast and furious flurry of cuts, innuendos, reported cuts, and roster spots earned.  Sources were cited, news was confirmed, tweets were cited and retweeted, and Dave and all the other CSC correspondents and field agents kept up with it masterfully.

Check out this CSC story that turned into a Roster Cut Open Thread of all the action.  And here's the CSC front-page bit on the PUP moves that leaked out Friday evening.

What you get this afternoon are the latest "official" reports from our usual suspects that will have to hold us over until the Saints make the official official announcement this afternoon, presumably just prior to the 3:00 pm EST deadline. You also have some player tweets, Saints-Wikes previews, NFL season previews, big King Cake for charity news, a review of 'Ain't Dat Super', and the lineup of famous chefs riding in the NFL Kickoff Parade (but there's no word on whether or not they'll be tossing appetizers to the crowd).  We also have Lance Moore and Robert Meachem on the TV boxes.

Enjoy and Happy First College Football Saturday to all!

I still dont understand

why did we keep Young? I never thought this guy was any good.

Young got burnt in the SB on that one play...

but to be fair to him, that was his first play in as an injury replacement- it often takes a play or two for a guy to get into the swing of the game. I don’t think he’s great either, but he’s a good backup safety (IMO), good on special teams, and versatile enough to play CB in a pinch, even if he’s not a very good CB.

Yeah thats true

and Im kinda glad we kept him because of Sharper being on the pup list. We would be screwed if we cut Young and Jenkins went down in one of the first 6 games.

was his second play in, or maybe third

We kept him because Sharper is going on PUP.

Allee-Walsh alludes to the Saints looking into a trade...
It is believed Saints officials are still trying to upgrade their roster at outside linebacker via a trade and using one of their own players as trade bait, league sources told NewOrleans.com on Friday.

Maybe we’ll catch us a Clay Matthews catfish with that bait!

It's gonna be a great year.

by HansDat on Sep 4, 2010 1:21 PM CDT reply actions

Hmmm wonder what kinda bait we using? Live or artificial?

you know, when you want something, and nobody can stop you from taking it, you just take it, right? I like that, but can you take it?

A WR perhaps?

Lots of teams need them. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re looking for another RB also. But, they probably think there’s enough decent RBs on the street that they can always bring another one in if the injury bug keeps hitting us there.

"As soon as Tony (Dungy) said we had no chance, I knew we had 'em right where we wanted 'em"--Coach Sean Payton right after Super Bowl XLIV with the Lombardi Trophy firmly in hand. WHO DAT!!

this is interesting

the question is not only who would we be dangling as bait, but who would we want in return. I doubt it would be any big name player. If it ends up being as good as our last minute trade for David Thomas last year, I’m cool with that. The Baconator ended up playing better than I think anyone imagined.

Peyton, I can eat Oreos faster than you!!!!

I don't even know a big name to "hope for" really

again, I will trust in Pay-Loo to pull the trigger on a deal, or not.

I just don’t want to give up the farm for Steve Walsh (he’s too old and too small to be an OLB anyway)

It's gonna be a great year.
