Fantasy Football Open Thread
Good afternoon CSC. I Just wanted to start an open thread for Fantasy Football this year (don't know if anyones got one up yet). I know everyone here loves fantasy football and if you love it, you love talking about it. Whether it be bragging about your team, asking for ratings, or advice on trades, roster moves, or FA pickups...anything fantasy football related can go here. Good luck to everyone this year in your leagues!
This FanPost was written by a reader and member of Canal Street Chronicles. It does not necessarily reflect the views of CSC and its staff or editors.

Saints Players
Colston of course (Primary WR)
Henderson (Sleeper 4th WR)
I was kinda hoping L. Moore would be traded. This would have uped Henderson in the depth chart.
If anything happens to Colston or Meachum I believe Henderson would be the go to guy.

Brees starting at QB
I also have Derrick Mason and now TJ Houshmanzadeh from the Ravens. Trying to decide which one to keep.
"Bring the Wood"
Take Mason.
TJ at best will be a #3 WR with the Ravens.

I've got awhile
they are both on the bench behind Roddy White and Hines Ward. Probably keep Mason. Thanks guys.
Also have the chance to get Rice off waivers, I know he’s on the pup but when he gets back he may take a starting spot.
Whatcha think?
"Bring the Wood"
Can’t stand either one of them. See if Garcon or Louis Murphy are available.
Ain’t it hard when you discover that he really wasn’t where it’s at
After he took from you everything he could steal, how does it feel?
I actually don't have any saints
on my primary team..I was torn..last round it was between thomas jones and reggie…i took jones.
Had the draft for my money league today:
Frank Gore
Roddy White
Pierre Thomas
Wes Welker
Michael Crabtree
Brent Celek
Santana Moss
Clinton Portis
Correll Buckhalter
Kevin Kolb
Kareem Huggins
Donovan McNabb
Jabar Gaffney
Julian Edelman
Devery Henderson
Bengals DST
Jeff Reed
Not especially happy, but better than my CSC League team.
If I am good I could add years to my life / I would rather add some life to my years.
how well do you predict portis will do?

Sub 1000 yards but more than 5 TDs. I ended up without a real fantasy RB2, as Jamaal Charles went very early and the rest of the league suddenly went RB nuts. But I’m happy to rotate my team around each week instead of just relying on a few players.
If I am good I could add years to my life / I would rather add some life to my years.
None
My philosophy is I don’t want to “cross the streams” between my real football and my fantasy football. Not only do I not have any Saints, but I don’t have anyone in the NFC South.
"Bow Down Before The One You Serve"
Yeah I won’t draft a player from a hated rival. I just can’t make myself do it. Even if I actually agreed with the “mainstream” position that Ryan will light it up this year, I still wouldn’t draft him. Or Turner. Or Whines Hard. I don’t quite hate the Ravens as much, so I did manage to make myself draft Ray Rice, but that’s it.
Silly misconception
whatever happens happens, just because you sit or don’t draft said player don’t mean said player will perform horrible.
you know, when you want something, and nobody can stop you from taking it, you just take it, right? I like that, but can you take it?
You are so missing the point
It’s not that by having a player or not that I can make that player do good or do bad on the field. It’s that I don’t want to be rooting for my Saints on any basis other than the final score. I don’t want to be bitching about the TD Drew threw to Devery that could have gone to my guy Meacham. Or that Drew snuck one for a TD instead of handing off to my guy Pierre Thomas.
Or, God forbid, bitching that Michael Turner didn’t score another TD for the Dirty Birds against the Saints.
It’s my fantasy. Let me enjoy it my way. I just pretend the NFL has 28 teams instead of 32.
"Bow Down Before The One You Serve"
Why even play then?
Do you ever win playing like that?
you know, when you want something, and nobody can stop you from taking it, you just take it, right? I like that, but can you take it?

Did you see that they announced today
that Ryan Grant is out for the season? http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Ryan-Grant-out-for-season-leg-ankle-injuries-Green-Bay-Packers-091410 Just want to make sure you don’t miss that news

I called it
The only part of your post I disagree with is Grant in Round 3. He’s one of the only backs in the NFL that doesn’t have much to worry about in terms of someone behind him stealing a lot of his touches.
by Northfan on Aug 31, 2010 3:09 PM CDT
why is that? Did you see him in Preseason when he got his bell rung? One or two more of those and he starts looking like Westbrook last year.

check it yo
on one of my teams i have sidney rice (yeah i know…) do you think i should just hold on to him or let him go and pickup a rookie that could have a potentially great year?
I'm keeping him
But he may not play until game 9.

Sidney Rice-WR- Vikings Sep. 6 – 11:49 am et
Sidney Rice (PUP list, hip) was at the Vikings’ practice facility Sunday as he begins his rehab.
Rice is two weeks removed from hip surgery. He’s eligible to return for Week 7, but that is extremely unlikely. Rice is expected to be on crutches well into October, and we highly doubt he’ll be back in game shape before November.

Ten team IDP league
I’ve had a really “meh” year of drafting. This one I like the most, although most of my others are close behind.
QB – Matt Schaub
WR – Andre Johnson
WR – Reggie Wayne
WR – Hakeem Nicks
RB – Dexter McCluster (My first pick for a huge FF season.)
RB – Knowshon Moreno
TE – Antonio Gates
QB/WR/RB/TE – Kevin Kolb
BN – C.J. Spiller (Second choice for big season.)
BN – Julian Edelman
BN – Mohamed Massaquoi
BN – Chad Henne
K – Nate Kaeding
DEF – San Fransisco
BN – Pittsburgh
LB – London Fletcher
DT – Vince Wilfork
DE – Dwight Freeny
CB – Jonathan Joseph
S – Troy Polamalu
BN – Brian Urlacher
BN – Lofa Taputu
Are you seriously starting McCluster over Spiller at RB?
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
Yes. Don't hate.
I’ll start both of them if Knowshon isn’t 100%, but I actually prefer McCluster over Spiller for fantasy purposes. I know it sounds like I’m being slightly idiotic, but my gut says McCluster and McCluster it will be. Unless my gut says Spiller before the deadline to set the roster for the week. :P
McCluster will be lucky to average 10 touches per game as a rookie. You’re insane if you bench a legitimate starting RB for him. Especially one with equal or better big play potential, which is what you have with Spiller.
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
I included that in my 10-touch-per-game-if-lucky estimation.
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
Put it this way … how many starting RBs did Percy Harvin outscore last year in fantasy? That’s your best case scenario.
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
I know what your saying, I you have a very good point.
However, I trust what my gut says. Who knows, my gut may start agreeing with you before gametime. (Heaven knows my head does…)

two words
Jahvid Best
Ain’t it hard when you discover that he really wasn’t where it’s at

Well
Brees
Colston
Henderson
Shockey
Bush
Hartley
Saints D
I was also pretty fortunate to find Miles Austin, Malcom Floyd, and I might just have to test drive the Bears D as well. I didn’t focus enough on RB, as I have Ced Benson, and Marion Barber. I snagged Austin Collie and Dustin Keller. My Back up QB is Sanchez, because I like his chances during the Bye Week. As I am always searching for advice, and certain to get brutally honest “Drop this and get this” answers, which D should I run the first week, Saints (Against Minnie) or Bears (Against Detroit)? Thoughts?

Doh
just realized, I typed in the wrong Saint, I have Meachem, not Henderson.

Football is easy if you're crazy as hell
Did the commissioner strip you of your first round pick?
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
This wasnt in order.
It was a keeper league. Three players kept from the prior year. I kept Fitz from round one, Charles and S. Smith were both undrafted and therefore made up my 15th and 16th picks.
Football is easy if you're crazy as hell
I see. Surprised you were still able to land both Best and Spiller, I’m assuming just about everyone opted to keep a player in lieu of their first round pick … as well as quite a few second rounders(?)
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
For the most part yes.
I think only one person actually picked a first round pick (other than the first 4 picks as they just redrafted their top picks).
Football is easy if you're crazy as hell
For anyone who should read this, give me some advice. I need to start two of these four:
Welker, Crabtree, Gaffney, Santana Moss.
If I am good I could add years to my life / I would rather add some life to my years.
Moss + Welker
If you think Tom’s accident and Welker’s injury will linger, Moss + Crabtree.
Want to go to the Saints vs. Cowboys game? I've got an extra ticket.
Gaffney appears to be the #1 in Denver.
Welker will be Brady’s target cause of no rush.
you know, when you want something, and nobody can stop you from taking it, you just take it, right? I like that, but can you take it?
Hope you followed my advice?
you know, when you want something, and nobody can stop you from taking it, you just take it, right? I like that, but can you take it?
Starting this week:
QB Philip Rivers (SD – QB)
WR Brandon Marshall (Mia – WR)
WR Chad Ochocinco (Cin – WR)
WR Pierre Garcon (Ind – WR)
RB Michael Turner (Atl – RB)
RB Ryan Mathews (SD – RB)
TE Zach Miller (Oak – TE)
K Lawrence Tynes (NYG – K)
DEF New York (NYJ – DEF)
Bench:
Carson Palmer
Jamaal Charles
Thomas Jones
Nate Burleson
Mike Williams (TB)
*Sidney Rice (out)
Any changes?
I might consider
taking a look at Jamaal Charles. In my league he scored more points than both of your active RBs. Of course on any given Sunday…

yeah
that’s my big debate this week…turner, mathews, or charles…and charles is playing the browns! but turner is playing arizona!…but mathews is playing jacksonville!!?? what do i do??
Peyton Hillis
I am trying him out this week. I picked him up off ww. Might also take a chance on Brandon Jackson. I like Turner @ home. Charles was a nice surprise week 1, but still going to share with Jones. Matthews wont have to worry with the weather @ home so I look for him to do good.
you know, when you want something, and nobody can stop you from taking it, you just take it, right? I like that, but can you take it?
might take a chance on Jackson… in my other league and ones my friend manages, Jackson went for 80-100% of their SEASON budget for freeagents.
Want to go to the Saints vs. Cowboys game? I've got an extra ticket.
yeah man w/ j charles sharing those carries I cant really trust him for a while…i think by halfway through the season though he should be getting 75% of the load
I won my head-to-head game
and came in 2nd place in my league for week 1. Today I benched Jahvid Best for Matt Forte and Calvin Johnson for Austin Collie. So benched both Lions. Good? No good. Stay with my below line up?
For week 2 I’ve got:
Drew Brees – nuf said
Matt Forte – RB CHI
Arian Foster – RB HOU
Johnny Knox -WR CHI
Austin Collie – WR IND
Brandon Marshall – WR MIA
Antonio Gates – TE SD
Garrett Hartley – K NO (used to be MONEY)
Green Bay Packers Defense
Bench
Matt Ryan – duh
Derrick Mason – WR BAL
Dez Bryant – WR DAL
Jahvid Best – RB DET
Calvin Johnson – WR DET
Clinton Portis – RB WAS

I'd put Calvin Johnson back
on the starting lineup…he’s all they got reciever wise;…even with a below average qb at the helm i would start him.
and who on the WR front would you bench?
