Fleur-de-Links: Vikings vs. Saints - Gregg Williams Believes in Necessary Roughness
Just two more days to go before "The Rematch." That's really all one needs to call it because the 2010 NFL kickoff game matching the Vikings and the Saints is without a doubt THE most hyped rematch of the season. It's become a modern day Rocky II set on an NFL gridiron. Just like between Balboa and Creed, there's still lots of bad blood between these two teams and their fanbases. Will it be settled after this Thursday night? Mick says no.
Headlining the above mentioned strained relationships is none other than the disagreement between Brad Childress and Gregg Williams on how a defense should come after opposing quarterbacks. Chilly has been telling anyone who'll listen lately that he thinks the Saints D came after Favre a little too aggressively in last season's NFC Championship Game. This begs the question - Do 40+ year-old future Hall of Famer QBs warrant special treatment in this league or is Chilly just a whiny wuss who only gets upset when it's his signal-caller taking shots? My money is on option B. One has to wonder if Childress is really a NFL head coach or a player for the London Silly Nannies.
How does Gregg Wiliams respond to Chilly's latest shots across his bow? We won't know until tomorrow. That'll be the first time he'll be available to the media this week. It should make for a very interesting transcript and video. My guess is that Williams will respond something like this, "Eff him."
Hans set the bar pretty high for these Fleur-de-Links posts. His work lately has been magnificant. I'll try my best to keep those high standards rolling. Loads of Vikings vs. Saints links, tweets, and video after the jump. I'll update it a little later with any afternoon links and transcripts I find. ADRIAN!

I’m confused…so if we won the first one…does that make us Apollo Creed? Granted Creed will always be cooler than Rocky…i just don’t want to die during Rocky 4.
I was going to post that. Yes that would make you Apollo Creed.
The funny thing is in the first one, Creed wins on a split decision.
Whichever fits your fancy
I guess it depends on which team you root for. Since Apollo was the one saying “That chump was no match for me,” I’d liken that more to the talk of some Vikings fans recently. In the linked-to movie promo, Mick tells Rocky, “He wants to bury ya. He wants to humiliate ya. He wants to prove to the whole world that you was nothing but a freak the first time out.” That sounds like Chris Gates talk to me.
Of course, I do see how Vikes fans can see themselves as Rocky too. It could go either way.

I don't understand how
if other teams do it it’s just football but God forbid anyone think the Saints do it too because if so we are the dirtiest team ever.
Act like men (women too!) and suck it up. I watched the replay of the superbowl today and I think it would have been close but the Vikings would have lost to the Colts. It took Peyton’s giant balls, the way we spread the ball around and GW’s focus on interceptions that helped us take down Manning.

Shame on you Duncan. “Shut up Chlly”?
What are you smoking? Chilly has almost been more obnoxious than that fat blowhard from the Jets. He’s been a whiny, imbecilic, crybaby-ish, buffoonish, milquetoast-like twerp practically all offseason long. But all that would be just annoying and stupid. If that was the whole sum of his idiocy. But it’s not all of it. He’s also a two-faced hypocrite! His team got over twice as many personal foul penalties — all of which were ALSO over the line — as ours did, and he defended his players when THEY broke the rules, but his QB gets hit a few times over the line and he’s off in left-field with tons of crap about “those dirty rotten cheaters”. Bullcrap! He deserves to be called out on that, by far more than just a media guy.
Quebec gold....
Childress can do and say whatever he feels will help his team win. I know I wouldn’t accept anything less from my head coach.
On the other hand, Duncan is suppose to be a reporter…“Shut up Chilly” belongs on CSC or other blogs, not from a writer on “the beat”. And by quoting it, he is approving it. So much for impartiality and credibility…
Repeat? Under construction...
