Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints: Game Predictions

Everyone's favorite Canal Street Chronicles pre-game tradition is back for it's third straight season!

Normally we'd be doing this on Friday afternoon but since the Saints kick off everything this Thursday, we've got to get an early start as well. Most of you guys probably already know how this works but for all of our newcomers, I'll review the rules again. Listen up.

Every week before a Saints game, everyone makes three (3) predictions about that game. They can be any predictions you want. You can guess that Drew Brees will throw for over 400 yards or you can guess that Sedrick Ellis will be fined by the league for excessive Pee-Wee Herman dancing following a five sack performance. It doesn't matter. Put your three predictions in the body of your comment, NOT the subject heading.

I know what you're thinking. You'll just guess silly things you can't possibly get incorrect like, "Someone will get tackled" or "After the game, there will be a winner and a loser." If you wan't to do that, be my guest, but I'm pretty sure you will be heavily ridiculed. You're call.

It's also become tradition to make a score prediction as well. That's a freebie you get and it doesn't count against your regular three predictions. A good score prediction can only help you, not hurt you. Please type your score guess as the subject heading of your comment. If you need an example of how all of this works, check out the prediction thread from an old Saints game against the Lions.

That about covers it. So without further ado, I leave it to you guys. Can't wait to hear them. Good luck.

That’s how I took it, also. The only time that’s probably ever happened is in a shutout loss, when the Saints only kicked off once and it just so happened to be a touchback. Any more opportunities than that and 25 yards on a kickoff return at SOME point in the game is practically a given.

by Grumps on Sep 8, 2010 2:33 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

Yes...

And we are both returning almost every one of our starters on both sides of the ball. Save for Cedric and Sidney.

Do you really think your defense will be able to hold the Vikings to under 20 points? If so, you might be a bit delusional.

I mean, there is always a chance it could happen. It is football after all. But do you think it is even remotely likely?

by Bjorno on Sep 8, 2010 2:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Personally I gave you 24

First off, I do not think you will turn the ball over as much. I do think that due to Favre’s limited time with his current group of receivers that the Vikings receiving corp. will not yield the same results as last year (very little time together in the preseason compared to a full season of play) effecting overall rhythm. You may discount that, and that is your prerogative. We shall see i suppose. I could very well be wrong (but i wouldn’t bet my money on them clicking).

We are not missing anyone on our offense. All systems go. That means a lot of options for Brees. And a lot of headaches for your D. You got one sack last year. I would not expect much more than that this year (if you are able to achieve the same).

Frankly, I think your secondary is going to be lit up. Our secondary should be just fine in my opinion. We may not have Sharper going for picks, but the rest of the starters will be there and are arguably top 5 in the league as a group. And because we attack your secondary often enough, i feel we will be able to catch you off guard with some runs.

AP will be productive, but i hear Gerhardt is banged up, you lost Chester, that leaves no real support for AP (i am not buying Albert Young just yet sorry). Our O-line is back and intact. Our D-line is bolstered. Our LB’s are the question mark.

Football is easy if you're crazy as hell

by Grumps on Sep 8, 2010 2:58 PM CDT up reply actions

I think the turnovers will be reduced as well, though that does not mean there will be none.

The entire Vikings team has more motivation to win this game than the Saints, due to the heartbreaking loss in January. I think that will go a long way to narrow the gap between the talent levels on the offensive side of the ball.

As far as the defense is concerned, you are forgetting that we do have Winfield at full health; and even though Cedric is not going to be 100%, Asher Allen and Lito Sheppard are more than adequate replacements for Ced.

That does not mean we have a stellar secondary, but if we can concentrate on getting more pressure, we can make some progress. Just because we only got one sack last year does not mean we didn’t do anything to hurry Brees’s decisions, and that can lead to turnovers quite easily.

AP will do what AP does, and if he can shave off a few fumbles from last year, I have no worries about what he will do.

The one thing I like about Albert Young is he is better at picking up the blitz than Gerhardt. And we might even bring Kleinsasser behind the line to do some blocking as well.

It will be a great game

by Bjorno on Sep 9, 2010 11:52 AM CDT up reply actions

What if

the Saints concentrate on stopping AP, and do so (it has happened before), and a rusty Brett Favre consistently overthrows his receivers? It’s not beyond the realm of possibility…and throw in the blow-out-the-roof emotion of the Superdome, and you could have the makings of a rout.

The game is played on the field…not by comparing spreadsheets.

Don’t take the preseason games as any indicator of his assumed performance, he was just trying things out.

by Bjorno on Sep 9, 2010 11:56 AM CDT up reply actions

Rusty?

Well he has been around enough to be able to shake that off. What he won’t be able to shake off is the “timing” with his receivers. New players added, other players in new spots/formations. Consider Drew has been practicing fully for quite a while. Brett just showed up recently.

I have played enough team sports and fully appreciate team cohesion and timing and rhythm. In that regard we have the upper hand in my opinion.

by Dan Kelly on Sep 8, 2010 3:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Well the reason Favre won't be in is because we're up

46 to 7 at the time. TJ’s scores two TD’s based on the fact that Porter makes an ill advised attemp at stripping the ball from AP and gets a cleat mark on his chest for his trouble. Also, half way through the game Will Smith realizes his acting career is more important and quits the team.. I also have some ideas about aliens, muppets and the letter K, but I think I’ll save that for game day.
