Vikings can go down in their Boats

OPENING DAY OF A BRAND NEW NFL SEASON!!!

Savour that.  Read it over and over and allow yourself to experience the goose bumps it should bring.  I hope everyone got good and pumped for tonight's game by watching "America's Game" last night.  I know I had a very tough time sleeping after that.  Very well done (I am looking forward to the Colts take on it if they follow up with a "Missing Ring" segment).

Like any true Saints fan, I cannot wait to see that banner drop, if they televise that part that is.  If not, I can't wait to see the camera's pan up to it.  I also can't wait to see the intense looks on the sidelines.

Through all this banter and bullcrap with the Vikings fans, the one overwhelming comment that they hold onto is that they think they were and still are superior to the Saints and that we got oh so lucky last year.  Fair enough, their prerogative.  What I prefer to think is that while our D did what they were best at, creating "takeaways" (as GW clearly wants his D to take the ball at every opportunity); our typically super potent offense was not as spectacular as normal.  So while Vikings fans seem to think/believe that we played to the best of our abilities last year in that game, anyone who watched the Saints all season knows we could have done oh so much better.   As a result I feel there is some serious underestimation going on over at the DN.  And I hope that after tonight's game any doubt is washed away as to how good this Saints squad will be this year.

With a relatively unchanged offensive side of the ball, my hope is that we see the Saints come out firing on all cylinders.  That dominating, deadly offense that can spread the ball around and make anyone on the roster a star of the game.

The Vikings are out to prove something from last season.  That is a very bad idea.  Last season is over.  In the record books.  This revenge angle against the Saints, I believe, is a component of why the Vikings will lose tonight.  It is very nice they want to avenge their loss.  Good on them.  Shows some pride in their team.  However, from what I see and hear, the Saints are out to show the league - let me restate that - the LEAGUE that they weren't a fluke.  They want to be a dynasty.  I believe we are on our way to becoming one.

As for tonight's game?  I don't want it to be close.  I want it to be a bloody slaughter.

Hope so.

If Brees plays the way he did for the last 3/4s of the SB then it should
be a good night for us. We looked very nervous on O during the NFCCG
a little conservative perhaps.
All those folk going tonight , have a blast and don`t forget to pack the kleenex.

Aints no more

Get me some F@@@ing Juicy Fruit.

Loved the segment last night. In my opinion, our offense will look better due to the fact we will Heath Evans back on the field. I think this will be a key component to the game. I know we had Dave Thomas in for a fullback, but I think Heath will do a better job. I expect are short yardage runs will be better. I like him as a lead blocker. I think he might help keep some of the pressure off Drew in the pocket. I also think he is one more weapon that the Vikings will have to account for as a possible check down for Drew. This will help spread out the defense as long as we are effective in the first part of the game.

I didn’t sleep well last night. I haven’t been this excited since you know the Superbowl. When I got in my car this morning for work, my music player randomly picked a Fat’s domino song “Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans” and yes I do know. I wish I was there tonight with friends and family. Time is taking its sweet time today.

So while Vikings fans seem to think/believe that we played to the best of our abilities last year in that game, anyone who watched the Saints all season knows we could have done oh so much better. As a result I feel there is some serious underestimation going on over at the DN

Uh … exactly who at DN is saying this, that the Saints offense played to the best of their abilities in that game? You make it sound like everyone is saying that. Well, I “live” there and I can’t remember anyone saying something specifically like that.

Got a bit of a chip on your shoulder there? lol

p.s. an oh the irony … you accuse Viking fans of not allowing that your offense played as well as it could … but in the very same paragraph you say “I prefer to think is that while our D did what they were best at, creating ‘takeaways’” … doing exactly what you accused us of! Is it perhaps not possible that our offense did not play as well as it could of? Is it totally inconceivable that we shot ourselves in the foot on occasion, and that those occasions had nothing to do with your super-de-duper defense? That maybe that offense could play better too … like, oh, you know, manage to do a handoff from QB to RB without the ball dropping on the ground (seriously, are you gonna call botched handoff a “defensive takeaway” and not an offensive turnover, when there wasn’t a Saints player anywhere nearby when it happened?

LOL. Pot calling kettle black! Priceless!

by puddnhead on Sep 9, 2010 11:57 AM CDT reply actions

puddnhead...

…go back and watch the videotape of that “botched handoff” closely. If you do, you will see Will Smith driving the OT back into the backfield, and that interfered with the clean handoff – grandpa was out of position, he had to step to his left further than planned; Mr. Butterfingers stopped short of the spot where the handoff was supposed to be as well – THAT is why it was a botched handoff, because Smith had shoved the OT into the spot where that handoff was supposed to occur:

FORCED FUMBLE.

Watching it right now...

http://www.nfl.com/videos/minnesota-vikings/09000d5d815f0f8f/Vikings-missed-opportunity

Smith did push McKinnie back, but not far enough to disrupt the handoff. AP simply closed early, probably because of him seeing McKinnnie being pushed back, but hardly a forced fumble.

That is like saying you should credit a defender with a blocked pass that the WR dropped because he heard footsteps.

by Bjorno on Sep 9, 2010 4:56 PM CDT up reply actions

OK...

…so if McKinnie ISN’T being forced back, do we really think AP loses his concentration?

FORCED FUMBLE.

Was it the play where AP uncharacteristically started the play with one hand on the ground? And he didn’t come up fast enough to reach the handoff?

Chip on my shoulder?

Why do you think i have the nickname Grumps? There is a reason I have a record for PIM that still holds.

As for the DN comments, i was merely paraphrasing the multitude of comments that have minimized the saints abilities.

Simply put. Our D in that game did what it did all season. Force takeaways and create opportunities. Our O did not play at the same level it did for the majority of last season. What exactly am i accusing you of?

As for your team, did i once say anything about what i thought about their level of play? All we have heard is about how many yards your O put up. Have i discounted it once? Could they do better? Possible, but highly unlikely considering the situation you are currently in. And if you are trying to support your argument by illustrating the one simple hand-off that a pro-bowl QB and pro-bowl RB couldn’t manage you have other issues.

I am not focused on last season. I am focusing on this season now. And i hope tonight starts off with beating the Vikings soundly.

Full speed ahead!

What the Vikings don’t realize is, our offense in NFCCG did not click on all cylinders. That was not typical Saints offense football.

What I would love to see tonight, is the offense on fire, for instance, like the New England game from last season. Or the Giants, Philly, Miami game.

When our offense is hot. There ain’t no defense out there that can stop them. FACT!

Oh and have a look at this little clip regarding Adrian Peterson, “Guarantees victory over the Saints” Promises are meant to be broken right?

We need to shut him down big time tonite!

So many colored glasses!

Of course the Saints D created turnovers, and props to them. Did the Vikings fail to protect the ball? Um, well yeah pretty much. I don’t see why one of these facts contradicts the other.

Of course the Saints O wasn’t hitting on all cylinders. Did the Vikes D shut them down like no other team last year? Um, well yeah pretty much. Again… no contradiction.

The Vikes don’t commit the turnovers if they’re playing Cleveland, and the Saints rack up 500+ yards if they’re playing Seattle. No matter how good we all think our team is, they’re playing against some pretty talented athletes who are doing everything to beat them, and I guarantee those competitors will influence each others level of success.

As much as this game is totally flavored by the last, it really can’t possibly resolve any unsettled issues from that game. The real difference will be that we can all look forward to a different competitor next week and stop thinking about each other. Tonight’s victor will claim vindication, the loser will tip their hats, and the NFCCG will still be what it has been for seven months… history.
