Fleur-de-Links - Jan. 24th: Sean Payton Confirms Brees Played With Low-Grade MCL Sprain
Coach Payton, on location in Mobile (that's pronounced Mo-beel, not Mo-bul) for the Senior Bowl, confirmed what Heath Evans leaked out earlier today - Drew Brees did play some games this season with a low-grade MCL sprain. He also said that Chris Ivory and Pierre Thomas had successful surgeries and both have begun rehabs.
In other news, Payton will moonlight as an ESPN analyst during Super Bowl week, former Saint Bill Cody is dealing with memory loss and other health problems years after retirement, and (big surprise) Bears fans are ready to throw Jay Cutler under the bus. Who didn't see that coming? I'm surprised he escaped their scorn for as long as he did.

It always bugs me when I hear Yankees refer to it as "Moble."
Geez! Would it kill them to ask a resident for the correct pronunciation?

I as a YANKEE take offense at the above comment you made. Have you ever heard Chris Berman on ESPN massacre the pronunciation of NEW ORLEANS? Not all Yankees pronounce Mobile as MOBLE, maybe that has something to do with my education and the fact that my dad was from New Orleans!

Believe it or not...
I didn’t intend it as derogatory. If I offended anyone, I apologize.

Almost as bad as
“Bill Okk See” Mississippi. Howard Stern used to say it that way daily in casino commercials. Couldn’t someone send the man an email and get that straightened out?

then they should spell it that way

Everything you need to read about this Cutler nonsense.

I have paused reading at this first sentence
Jay Cutler is a terrible actor and a very good quarterback

Correct
But I wasn’t drafted in the first round to lead the league in INTs.
FWIW, I think Cutler can build a case as one of the toughest QBs in the league. Dude got sacked 52 times this season. Some OL there, Bears.

Great read!
For the record, I’m taking Cutler’s side in this. I just don’t much care for many Bears fans after one of them walked around with a sign saying “The Bears – finishing what Katrina started” during the 2006 NFCCG. Many seem too quick to give up on their QBs and curse their names. I guess that’s how they’re used to dealing with QBs, since most don’t last long in the Windy City.

No kidding.
He has no line, no recievers, a new offensive coordinator and takes their team to the NFC championship game. He tears his MCL and they burn his jersey. Even if he had wanted to come back in to lead the last drive he couldn’t because thier dumb coach played the third string QB 50 seconds too early, thereby making Cutler ineligible to return. What a bunch of dips***s. Da-Bears.

I remember Eurlacher being accused
of calling Cutler “a wuss” when the trade to Chicago was made. I don’t know who broke the story, maybe a tweet in jest from Brian? I thought, here’s one of the biggest badasses in the leauge, captain of the team (def). And calling him out before he even put on a Bear jersey. He is a LB so he thinks all QB’s are wusses probably. He denied it, but just saying. Maybe Eurlacher knew Cutler’s rep. early on. He (Eurlacher) protected him(Cutler) in the post game but he’s supposed to do that.

Anybody got the skinny on
WHY Drake Nevis dropped out of the Senior Bowl?
I think, therefore I am, I think.
I'm so confused
Did he or did he not have an MCL sprain? One minute it’s yes, next minute it’s no. What to believe?
Peyton, I can eat Oreos faster than you!!!!
I questioned Cutler myself...
I mean this is for the Superbowl, will yourself to play! I don’t think he could handle the pressure, that’s just my opinion though.
2010 is cuzzin's breakout year...run with that chip bruh!
He couldn't handle it before he got hurt
…so it’s no surprise that he couldn’t handle it afterwards.
Good thing he's an great quarterback, though, and that Mike Martz offense is really turning him into a star.
It was worth the wait.
I don’t think he could handle any pressure on his knee, that’s just my opinion though.
FTFY.
Good lord, I’m sure a torn MCL f*****g hurts. All these pontificating talking heads saying “I’d have to be dead to leave the field, and even then I might stay in for a few plays, just to block” are morons jumping on a stupid bandwagon to get facetime on ESPN. It’s not noble to ruin your body and jeopardize your career for one more day of doing your job.
Cutler’s pretty easy to dislike as a QB and a person. I don’t see how that allows people to jump to whatever conclusions they like about his mental or physical toughness, or whether or not he was able to continue on Sunday.
If I am good I could add years to my life / I would rather add some life to my years.
you might be right...
I just don’t like the dude. A co-worker and I were discussing this in the breakroom today, he’s easy not to like. That being said, he’s a QB and his last name isn’t Vick, Rodgers or anyone that tends to be “mobile” (I pronounced that like it’s supposed to be I hope) so I think he could’ve played, it’s just my opinion though.

So...
Brees was hurt more than a third of this season. Therefore, I will cut him some slack for his sub-par year. And now that we know for sure he was, you tell me how stupid of him was it to jump up and down in front of reporters to prove them finally right…
Repeat? Under construction...
So Brees did have an injured knee!
Damn you John Madden and your cursed video game!
