Jan. 27, 2011 2:44 p.m. - CB Jabari Greer played through a shoulder injury throughout the last half of the season so much to where Greer could barely lift his arm above his head, defensive coordinator Gregg Williams said. It's why Greer struggled at times late in 2010.

Rotoworld.com: The shoulder injury and a late-season knee injury help to explain why Greer's play fell off at times from mid-October through the end of the season. Turning 29 in two weeks, Greer should be back to full strength for the 2011 season.

Ok, he did kinda suck but it wasn't because he's old like Lito Sheppard, just for the record.

2010 is a sign

18 game seasons cannot be done. There’s enough injuries as it is.

And that’s when the owner’s locked the doors, officer.

Amen. It also doesn’t say much for spending a 1st round pick on a CB you’re hesitant to start.

It was P-Rob's first year!!!!!!

Look what the D line said about Sedrick Ellis. NFL secondaries have to be a shock to a rookie. Jenkins didn’t always look so great his rookie year either.

pre-reply

Saints should trade down for more picks so there are no first rounders who risk disappointing.

I have no defense for Robert Meachem. I like him, but I can’t see how that guy graded out as first round.

I can’t either… yet… But then again, he was also a “flat out bust” only 16 or 17 months ago, so it’s at least theoretically possible that his degree of sucking was also heavily related to a combination of A) injury and B) welcome to the majors, kid.

Wow, I’m actually agreeing with Stujo about multiple things in the same day. This must be some sort of a record.

And still I get no rec.

Oops. I guess I did forget that little detail.

I’m talking about starting upon Greer’s injury, not from the get-go. It being Robinson’s rookie year has nothing to do with that. Even if it did, Leon Hall and Darrelle Revis both started as rookies out of the gate. Are you suggesting that difference between an injured Jabari Greer and a healthy Patrick Robinson is greater than the difference between a healthy Deltha O’Neal and a healthy Leon Hall? Or the difference between a healthy Hank Poteat and a heathy Darrelle Revis? Sure, Greer is better than O’Neal/Poteat WHEN HEALTHY, but that wasn’t the case here. a.) how do you know what you have, if you’re not willing to play him? b.) if you DO know what you have and you’re STILL not willing to play him, then my point stands. Don’t use the rookie excuse as a crutch. It’s already been rendered moot before, even WITHOUT an injury to (what would have been) the incumbent starter factored in.

Starting a rookie over crap he’s expected to completely replace is a totally different scenario from taking a player who primarily only showed his potential in college over a proven veteran who was coming off a season where he was, quite frankly, bloody awesome.

It being Robinson’s rookie year has nothing to do with that.

It has everything to do with it. You expect P-Rob to realize his career potential in his rookie year?

No, I just expect a first round pick to be good enough to start when the guy ahead of him is injured.

Like my gastroenterologist told me, “You have unrealistic expectations.”

Not so unrealistic. What’s the average number of games started as a 1st round rookie CB in the NFL? I would have to think it’s higher than Robinson’s 4.

5 star rated Scout.com CB's of the 2010 draft- games started in 2010

Joe Haden 7
Devin McCourty 16
Kyle Wilson 6
Patrick Robinson 4
Kareem Jackson 16
Dominique Franks 0
Chris Cook 5 (injured)
Brandon Ghee 0 (injured)

Point taken. At least we didn’t draft Dominique Franks, he’s even worse.

Out of curiosity…are you still liking that Hughes kid?

Feel sorry for that guy. Fell down some stairs, now may never play ball again.

Sorry, I just had to evict that longstanding Sesame Street reference from my frontal lobe.

If his “career potential” is merely filling in for injured starters, then we botched the pick even more than I imagined.

I’m not suggesting that they’re the same scenario.

If they were the same scenario, wouldn’t O’Neal and Poteat have to be injured?
