Coach Pete Carroll announced Thursday that Matt Hasselbeck (hip) will start against the Saints in Saturday's Wild Card round contest. Carroll actually relayed the news to Hasselbeck earlier in the week that he would start as long as he avoided aggravating his hip injury in practices. Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst have both been subpar passers this season. Carroll is going with Hasselbeck's big-game experience over Whitehurst's surprisingly competent performance in locking up the NFC West last week. Neither QB is a good bet to start for the Seahawks next season, so there's reason to hand the keys to Whitehurst now.
