The Turf Show Times - Canal Street Chronicles Open Pregame Thread
via ts2.mm.bing.net
There is something ironic about the St. Louis Rams playing a team from the "Big Easy" in a game Sunday. Not lost on the struggling Rams is the 60+ point performance The Saints pasted into NFL history books against the Colts. As a Rams fan, and member of the Turf Show Times writing staff, I'm far to professional to give into fears... In fact, I've learned a few things. First, I can type while in the fetal position and alternately sucking my thumbs. Second, and most important, super gluing on dark sunglasses isn't really the best idea...
A big hello to all the Saints fans here on Canal Street Chronicles from the TST crew. I thought we'd stop by to answer any questions you may have about the St. Louis Rams. I'm sure our readers would welcome a chance to ask question about the Saints too. So let's get to it!
How hard was it to get passed the devastating loss to the Green Bay Packers in what I consider the greatest season opening game ever? How many Saints fans are sleeping easier now that Colston is back from injury? Is anyone shocked at how Reggie Bush is failing in Miami? Can we borrow a VooDoo priestess, and would it help the St. Louis Rams?
I've already read some of the score prediction by the CSC faithful, so I'm sensing a consensus on the outcome here. The passing yardage guesses could be off if Justin King is our starting corner back... AGAIN... this week. Oh the humanity! :-)
Thoughts?

In case it makes you feel better
There are some of us (no names necssary) who always expect the Saints to win by ginormous scores. I’ve actually reinede mself in with a score of 60 from previous years. I am much wiser now :-j
Whodat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dynasty - 2009 - ????
Here is a few...
How may years do you think SJax has before he is done?
What do you think the long-term prognosis of your QB’s ability is? Middle of the road? Or future superstar (when surrounded by the proper complement of weapons)?
As for your questions?
How hard was it to get passed the devastating loss to the Green Bay Packers in what I consider the greatest season opening game ever?Wasn’t that hard for me. I thought it was a great game with a shootout between two of the NFC’s best. Gave us a great idea of what our team could do (as well as what could be done to them).
How many Saints fans are sleeping easier now that Colston is back from injury?
I have to say, I am really surprised at how much the trio of Sproles, Colston and Graham are dominating the looks this year. I knew they were going to be key pieces, but Brees usually spreads the ball around so much more. This year it seems he is focusing on his favourites (at least that is how it seems to me – stat’s be damned).
Is anyone shocked at how Reggie Bush is failing in Miami? Not terribly. They apparently did not learn anything from our experiment. Why they figured he could be a featured back in their system when he had proven he wasn’t a North to South runner with us boggles the mind. And with that bad of a passing game, they aren’t able to get him the ball in space enough. I bet he regrets leaving the Saints for the Dolphins regardless of the extra scratch.
Can we borrow a VooDoo priestess, and would it help the St. Louis Rams? You will have to ask some of the NOLA residents about that. I could send you some snow and a toque, but neither will help the Rams.
I like Hamburgers!
Sam Bradford has every key asset to be a great QB.
The current arguments over at TST is about the OL. High priced talent doing absolutely nothing. Top it off by our finding out defenses have been reading a tell by our center… It’s my belief the our position coaching staff has dropped the ball this year. Our players look like they are going backwards in skill level, Sam Bradford being chief among them. His lack of a QB coach in his second season is telling indeed.
How hard was it to get passed the devastating loss to the Green Bay Packers in what I consider the greatest season opening game ever?
The only thing hard to get past was the fact that we could have won the game… we should have won the game. Poor Horrible play by one of our CB’s and poor playcalling (especially the runs) lost us that game. And it still came down to the wire.
Next time we meet them, in the NFCCG, the outcome will be different.
How many Saints fans are sleeping easier now that Colston is back from injury?
Glad he’s back, but not many of us lost sleep over it. As long as Drew Brees has 7 other guys to throw to, we’ll be ok.
Is anyone shocked at how Reggie Bush is failing in Miami?
No.
Can we borrow a VooDoo priestess, and would it help the St. Louis Rams?

I really have only this question.
And I know it’s driving you Rams fans crazy. How could they Draft the Best QB in that years draft class, and not follow it up by drafting him someone to throw it too. Some protection help would have been nice too. Though some of those coverage sacks might not happen if he had some where’s to go with the ball.

You're exactly right! If you polled Rams fans, I have no doubt the lack of a #1 WR would be their greatest pet peeve.
If Brandon Lloyd doesn’t get killed before Sam Bradford recovers, we may very well see if yours, and others, suppositions are correct.
So, is Josh McDaniels overrated?
I’m thinking he’s a big reason why the Rams are struggling now after doing fairly well last season. Well, that plus all of the injuries. I don’t know what to make of McDaniels. The Broncos learned the hard way that he’s anything but brilliant. How do Rams fans feel about him?

My personal opinion is that I just don't see what McD has done to help the Rams.
While I think Kendricks will be an excellent TE one day, the #2 pick we used to get him had better places to spend it. The 2011 draft is to my mind, one of the best DT draft in the last 15 years. While Quinn could very well turn out to be an ace, the need for a good DT is high on the Rams priority. McD stepped in and said he needed a TE, so a building defense went backwards this season in my opinion. McD seems lost, if not overwhelmed at times on the sidelines, and has shown little to make me think he is the offensive genius he claims to be.
Not hard to get over the loss to the pack
I didnt expect to win the defending superbowl champ has won all those opening games in their stadium
I was surprised the foulclowns didnt have to play them since they lost the nfc championship game
Instead of talking about that guy in Miami lets talk about his replacement Sproles is he awesome or what? How much does he worry ya’ll? Do you want your D playing to stop our runniong game or our passing game?Any chance Steven Jackson doesn’t play he’s the only thing about the Rams that worry me

Sproles was one of the players TSTers screamed for, to no avail...
Norwood hasn’t worked out, though Caddy Williams is a gamer.
Our run defense has been a mixed bag this year. We rate at the bottom of the entire NFL against the run, and made Dallas’ Murray into an overnight sensation. Our problems lay with our DTs. They are just not up to the game. Bannan hasn’t been totally terrible, but Robbins is just flat out over the hill and rolling down the other side.
Believe it or not, I fear your running game this week much more than your passing attack. We’ll have no pass rush without some kind of control of the line of scrimmage.
Steven Jackson will either have a terrific game, or he’ll limp off the field in the first quarter. I think he’ll get you for a long run at one point. The problem is the play calling. In this game with A.J. Feeley at QB, I’d run the ball all day long. 3rd and 4 or 5 will continue to be the bain of the Rams offense without the likes of Amendola to take those short passes and actually CATCH the ball.
It would be no surprise to me
If steven Jackson got us for atleast 1 long run
He has to fear Scott Shanle though he’s the best OLB in the league at making tackles 30 yards downfield

Douglas,
This is more of a personal interest question. What are the general thoughts of Ram’s fans regarding Danny Amendola and how much of an impact has his being on IR been?
I haven’t really followed his pro career that closely other than knowing he signed with the Rams, but he and my daughter went to the same high school. They hung out in the same crowd and still keep in touch with each other. He was a very likeable kid (in addition to being a star athlete) back in the days when he played for The Woodlands High School.
Danny Amendola is one of the most universally like Rams players.
He is one of the toughest players you’ll ever see step foot on a field. When he dislocated his elbow, he told the coach he was playing the following week. They held him out, but he was on Spags every day wanting to play. It turned out his tri-cep tendon had been all but severed…
You won’t find many receivers willing to catch so many short passes in the land of linebackers and never gripe about it.
How popular is Danny? Bradford thinks the absolute world of him.
I picked up Amendola as a free agent on my FF team last year. He helped me out. WARNING: never get drunk and miss your FF draft, I had a craptastic team.
And shepherds we shall be, for thee my Lord for thee, Power hath descended forth from thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command, we shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In nomine patris, et filii, et spiritus sancti.
lol I missed my draft too
I’ve been piecing together a team all year. I was lucky enough to grab Colston when he was injured and sat on him till he came back. So he’s the only guy allowed to score TD Sunday… :-)
how about
he scores 4 of them? Would you be happier then?

While I'd rather have the Rams win, I'm not really sure it's possible with Feeley at QB...
… He may very well throw more passes to the Saints than his own WRs…
Pardon me while I fight back my man tears! lol

I’ve got my voodoo priestess working the World Series right now. Go Cards!!!!!

Rangers fell apart mentally when they gave up the first 2 point lead in game 6...
TWO outs TWO strikes… they gave up their 2 point lead… in the 9th.

Mentally drained.

Passing Yard Predictions
I do not believe that the passing yard predictions are excessivly optomistic.I hope that Justin King is healthy at corner back so that Brees can re-validate his status as a passing machine. Not that he has to after the last 3 weeks, however If he is unable to go deep then he will just have to dump it off to Graham or any of the six other targets that he has available 10 yards at a time instead of 20+ yards at a time. The end will be the same. I do not expect to score an insane amount of points. You guy’s have a descent defense and do not quit unlike the pathetic performance of the Colt’s defense last week. After sunday, it would not bother me if you did get religion and a Vodoo Priestess and win some games.

The GB game was hard to get over for me
but it wasn’t really a shocker for us/anyone that we lost. It was hard for me because of the defensive standpoint. Colston being back is huge news for me! Now we have a legit #1 WR not to mention a mostly consistent 1000 yard receiver. Reggie failing isn’t suprising but that he’s losing and has been losing his RB role since about week 2 is surprising especially considering it’s to a rookie that had to come in and learn the system just like him. I don’t use voodoo dolls. I do a lot of yelling and cursing during the game though, not that it seems to help much.
Now that we have a 2011 season let's win the Superbowl!
No beer? No chips?
I thought there was going to be a party in here. I guess I’ll just have to drink my own beer.

LOL We had a problem in a Blog visit earlier this year. The fans at TST , or any site, should respect great communities like this, Some decide to troll with out of line comments just to ruin the day of others...
… TST, CSC, and a whole bunch of SBNation sports sites are about having fun as much as knowledge interchange.
I’d hate to have someone come here and not respect a great fan site.
60 points was fun, but
I’ll be the first to admit, without brees, we would fare no better than the colts have without manning.

I have to call you out on that
Not that I want to find out for certain, but I do believe the Saints have a much better coaching staff than the Colts. I mean who in their right mind tries to play a no huddle in the Superdome? With an inexperienced QB and the crowd pumped, that was just plain stupid.
Chase Daniel is better than Painter. The supporting cast are better than the Colts players. Graham, Colston, Sproles, Moore, etc.

So maybe like the rams without Bradford, then.
