Brees contract talks tabled until postseason
"Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis said he has continued to stay in touch with Condon, and he would be open to making a deal at any point. "
There is paper in the fax machine. Waiting. Otherwise, franchise tag. Your move, Tom.

makes sense...
Drew doesn’t have too much leverage outside of what he means to the city/team. No sense worrying about it and maybe affecting your game.

If we can win the SB,
and Brees wins SB MVP, while having shattered Marino’s passing record. Are we gonna have to make t-shirts that say “Throw the Money to the Brees” LOL.
" I’ve never done drugs but I think watching Matty Ice stare blankly towards the field as Drew Brees kneels down while clock hits zero in a playoff game would be like doing cocaine off a strippers @$$#….yeah that good.

I can't believe they will be so tight-fisted as to run the very
realistic risk of Drew getting disgruntled with the Franchise tag.
It’s seems like the most simplistic rule of football team management would be to over-pay your coach (the one position, I believe, where you can pay grandiose sums without fitting any cap) and don’t pi$$ off your quarterback. Those two are so basic that they should be tattooed on all owners.
Whodat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What, exactly, is that risk? Making Drew BREEESSS!!! mad? He plays better when he’s mad. He might get so mad that he’ll want to go play somewhere else? Where? There is no better place for him. There’s no risk. Tom Condon is asking for crazy money and Mickey is not going to pay crazy money. Franchise tag to buy time for negotiations.

Well of course Condon is asking for crazy money. He’d be a fool not to. If he asked for what he really wants, Mickey could talk him down to something below that point in the course of negotiations. It’s standard negotiating 101, ask for more than you want (or offer far less than you’re willing to pay) in the hopes of ending up with a final number reasonably close to where you really want to be.
The problem isn’t that Condon is asking for ridiculous money. Nor is it really that Mickey is lowballing him. These are standard negotiating tactics and both of them know it.
No, the problem is that both sides are behaving right now like the NFLPA and the NFL owners did in about May of this last year. They are both making ridiculous non-offers and unwilling to be the first to make a realistic concession to get the ball rolling. Eventually somebody will wake up and realize this is stupid and something will change. The question is who and when this will happen.

I certainly hope you're right and that they are just waiting for
Drew to get off the field for the season to have rational discussions.

I would like one meeeellion dollars and a pony.

As long as he is not disgruntled at the beginning of next
season, I would agree. It’s still an unnecessary distraction.
Whodat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No sir. I don't like it, not one bit.
Over on the Redskins site, they were throwing around the idea of making a run at Brees if he becomes a free agent, and I’m sure other teams have the same idea. Even if Brees stays in New Orleans, free agency is bound to drive the price up. Other teams know that they don’t have to actually sign him to put a dent in our salary cap number that might prevent us from signing another one of our big name players.
"I want to hand this trophy to the MVP of the Super Bowl -- and the MVP of the entire league.''
-- Saints coach Sean Payton, handing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Drew Brees after Super Bowl 44.
Well that depends on which tag they use on him. They can use the “normal” franchise tag, which allows other teams to interfere. They can also use the “exclusive” tag and not have to worry about it.
People like Vick get the “normal” tag. He’s a decent enough QB but if you lose him there are other alternatives. People like Manning, Brady, and Brees get the “exclusive” tag.
So I’m not really THAT worried.
They are being careful that an injury (like Peyton) doesn’t happen to Brees after giving him the salary he deserves and all the guaranteed money. If Brees goes the rest of the year with no injury, he will become the highest paid QB in the NFL this off season.
So what if he gets injured next year?

You’re on the List, tommy.
Is it in my head, or in my heart?

Not. Nope. Not gonna happen. Not even if he’s Super Bowl MVP again.
List me, Stu.
