CSC Lagniappe #10 Might Make You Sin

Welcome to the CSC Perpetually Open Thread!

Let me stress the need to keep things civil, or this thread will soon go the way of other good intentions. I advise everyone to read all the rules. Particularly the ones involving profanity and treating each other with respect.

What's a Perpetually Open Thread? I'll tell you! This is a thread dedicated to all off topic conversations. If there's something that you want to talk about that isn't really relevant to Saints football, can be discussed here. Think about this as a bar/hangout place for people who just want to have some fun with other Saints/football fans.

The whole reason for this thread is to help bring people together and help them get to know other fans on a more personal basis. If this turns out to be a popular activity, we hope to continue this concept as long as possible. However, there are some rules/constraints we have to put on some conversations in order to make sure everyone has an enjoyable experience.

  • The other SBN and CSC rules still apply. No racist, sexist, or personal attacks on anyone. It's vulgar in other venues, it's still vulgar here.
  • As well, no politics or religion talk. Nothing good can come from it.
  • If you think something is Not Safe For Work, don't post it, link it instead.
  • Just because this is an Off-Topic thread, does not mean football talk is off limits! Just remember, keep arguments rational, and don't get personal. If you feel things are getting too heated, step away and take a breath.
  • No trolling. We don't want it, no need for it.
  • On that same vein as the previous rule, you may see some inside jokes. Don't assume you know what's what, make sure to find out what's going on before getting upset.
  • Please rec this thread to make sure this thread stays up until we are ready to dispose of it.
  • No swearing

If you have any troubles with anything going on with this thread, feel free to email me with any concerns about these threads. So long as you come with a mentality of having a good time, and plan on being friendly, we can have all have fun and not have to have mods come in and clean up.

Have fun!

Truth is, spoken Cajun French disappears yr by yr

the “Oldtimers” speak it, if there is someone else to understand. Still a few “Cajun Traiteuse’s” around. Unless both parents are “Certified Cajun” and its passed down, it doesn’t make it another generation. We call’em “Reel Chose” (accente aigu on 1st e) or “Real Deal” or “Real Cajuns”

It a real shame.

Both my parents were beat in school if they spoke Cajun french there. Also, they only time they spoke it around us kids was when they didn’t want us to understand what they were saying. Fortunately my cousins spoke it better good. Unfortunately I only learned the bad stuff.

My father too.

He said if they ever dared speak French even at recess they had their knuckles wacked by the nuns.

Now that you said that, I feel like I shouldn't do it.

You know, it’s like that old story of a cool uncle or auntie that visits the children and always bring a gift. The expectations grow as you bring more gifts. The only way you can get out of this, is if you don’t bring a gift every time. For this purpose only (and not because it’s a hangovered Jan 1st), I won’t give a French lesson today.

I have to take this opportunity, Kat, to say,

I am in awe. I’ve watched this thread for about six months, now, and I’ve watched guys go flying off this page like shooting stars. It’s been quite a gas but, I gotta say, a woman that can do that without the slightest physical presence! That’s great. I mean, wow! That’s amazing!!! Like I said, I am in awe. It’s why I’ve wanted to meet you for so long, Kat. That’s just wild, kid!! Kudos!

The only sad part, I guess, is that you kinda left this thread totally like a smoking ruin, I guess. Again, kinda funny, I gotta say. Ah, well, it’ll recover, soon, I’m sure.

I’m still laughing. Whew! Great job!

by snowboard_kat on Dec 31, 2011 3:28 PM CST up reply actions

Hey Kat

Yeah, this is Nofear under a different cover. I kinda did an excellent job of destroying the ‘nofear’ acount. And, believe me, it is not easy thing to do. You can’t just delete the darned thang. Sigh, all to no avail!

As usual, I found I had something to say on the subject – football, that is. That was bad enough, but then I saw your comment and felt I needed to straighten things out to some extent. Not sure, now, whether I’m straightening it out for you or for everybody else. I think you’ve figured it out better than most. Man, can I be cryptic when I want to!!! Even when I don’t want to!

/scratches his head, then shakes it

Just like the Saints, Kat, there is no offensive problem. Ok, let me try to be less cryptic and witty. You did not offend in any way. How’s that? My deepest apologies. If there is any problem, it’s mine, not yours. I would be glad to discuss further by email. Just won’t do it here.

So, anyways, no, my comment really was almost the highest praise I could and I’m still not convinced you don’t deserve the very highest of praise and that’s saying alot. Really.

And, the picture is kinda like a deep space peace offering or apologetic token. I’ll leave it there for a few days.

Anyways….

That is exactly my point, Kim, and why I'm leaving the field of endeavor

You don’t need to.

Personally, I thought the German was a little over-the-top, but that’s just me.

And, I’ll repeat (maybe ad nauseum), my problem, not yours. If Dave has a problem, I think it’s become clear over the last few days that he doesn’t hesitate on the trigger. So, you’re good to go.

And, I gotta repeat, though. Your new picture is just great. Makes me laugh.

And, I know I’m cryptic beyond belief when discussing subjects in public I’m uncomfortable with (whole different thing in private and in person), but

I was not ready for y’all and handled it terribly poorly. What can I say? C’est la vie et C’est tout!

Does anyone think

the most recent NFL rule changes reducing the number of padded practices have impacted this season? I mean all the crazy offensive records being broken and high scoring games…it seems like softer than normal defenses are more common this season.

by snowboard_kat on Jan 1, 2012 6:28 PM CST reply actions

Meant to reply to this a long time ago

Yes. That’s an awesome insight. That rule change and, of course, the head to head. Did you hear GW’s solution?? Too funny. Ok, you can’t do it head to head, so you need to get the ground to participate. Ha! Seriously, I busted out laughing really loud after reading that.

And, also, no one, especially after this season, should ever complain about running up any amount of points at any point in the game. Especially after what Brady did over the last two weeks. What was it? 49 points in one half??!!?!?! Make that two halves and we’re getting awfully close to the 100 points I want so badly for the Saints. If anyone should do it first….They can blame it on me, if they like. :~)

Not really.

You should go back to the NE/Pitts games previous to 2011. Brady used to eat Dick LeBeau’s zone blitz defense alive. They decided to give him hard man coverage this year, and the Pats weren’t ready to make good adjustments. I don’t think Brady and the coaching staff will be surprised again anytime soon.

no, they get their same game check…

I’m fairly sure they get paid extra for playing in the playoffs though.

by Dan Kelly on Jan 8, 2012 1:01 PM CST up reply actions

many players also have incentives… like,

if we make the playoffs and you have play 60% of regular season defensive snaps, you get an extra Million.

if you get 10 sacks and you play 60% of defensive snaps, you get an extra Million.

Rickey Jackson (while with SF) had a bonus re: sacks in the playoffs… $2mil for a few sacks – and he got it

Maybe someone else will remember the exact details.

by Dan Kelly on Jan 8, 2012 1:06 PM CST up reply actions

Naw, that's ok. I was really only wondering

about the team and was sure the individual players try to work things into their contract. In fact, I’m almost certain there is a set fee for the players in each playoff game with the special bonuses on top of that.

hey, for the record, our defense doesn't suck

we’ve been holding other offenses to 2 tds or less now for weeks- we’ve been shutting down or limiting some good RBs like De Angelo Williams, Mike Turner, Adrian Peterson, etc.

In a dome, it’s harder to be a dominating defense (it can be done, just harder) , but anytime we hold the opponent to two tds or less and x fgs, we should win that game.

I was just thinking the other day that there ought to be a new way to write things for

this online stuff, since you can’t really get the expressions of the person making a point.

So, like, maybe, above each word or character there is an emoticon, so you could, word by word, show if you are smiling or sarcastic, or whatever.

I was NOT being sarcastic about Kat opening a business to teach flirting. I’ve never seen anything like it. She’s like a tenth degree black belt in flirting! It’s great!

God, but I hope that finally clarifies. I don’t, in any way, want Kat feeling bad about her flirting. I get it. It’s awesome! In actuality, I think that this has been a great learning for some. And, yes, I’m being very cryptic but, there are a few smart people here that have new things dawning in their heads, like the ramifications of their actions. And, that’s always a good thing. Others will just wander through, as usual.

Hey I know you

Weren’t you one of the ones that showed up on CSC before superbowl 45 to talk a bunch of crap in about 95% of our threads, then got all pissy after you lost and I stopped by Stampede Blue to politely say good game? A bunch of you guys called me some nasty names then banned me.

A few of you remained nice so if you were one of those then forgive me ;) Lol

by SarahT on Jan 3, 2012 10:44 PM CST up reply actions

You are incorrect.

I talked no shit on your site before the Super Bowl. However, you did stop by 5 minutes after the Super Bowl on the Colts site and trolled. You got cussed and banned, then came over here, made a big “I WAS TOTALLY INNOCENT! I JUST STOPPED BY TO SAY GOOD GAME AND GOT CALLED A BITCH!” fanpost about it. I was not one of the people who cursed you, or even had any interaction with you until the aforementioned hypocritical fanpost.
It’s always considered bad form to go to an opposing team’s site after a game, especially the Super Bowl, and rub people’s faces in it. I dare say you got off easy with the minimal amount of cussing you got for that one. Feigning innocence later just made it more deplorable.

  1. - A bunch of you came here to start something the way you guys said you did on every blog on SB. You guys tried to bait us by posting in every thread on here but it didn’t work. A couple of us, me included, became cool with you and spent multiple nights going back and forth between blogs in open threads joking around. After the game thinking we were cool BECAUSE WE HAD BEEN COOL stopped by to say good game but instead got called a bunch of named like the c word for no reason except that you guys were immature children. Obviously you don’t understand the definition of trolling because that is NOT what I did.

I know the rules on this blog.

Only the “F” word is prohibited. Other curse words are frowned upon. Dave himself used the word “bitch” the other day in a front page comments section.

The “bunch of us” who came here to start something, if you did a bit of research, were not regulars, but stupid n00b trolls who signed up within a couple of weeks before the Super Bowl. We, as well as you all certainly were, were flooded with frontrunning “fans” right before the Super Bowl who pretty much made our lives hell as much as they did yours. I remember you visiting the open threads. The people on our open threads were civilized regulars who welcome fans from other teams. That’s why you had a good experience before the game. I’m sure you know from experience, however, that the people who participate in game threads are comprised of a WIDE variety mostly idiots and the few who are regulars were probably not in the mood for you stopping by to say, and I quote:

Better luck next season!!!!!!!
Not to rub it in or anything but since you decided to stop by and talk s**t on our board for the past 2 weeks: WHO DAT???!!!!! SUPER BOWL 44 CHAMPS!!!!!!! NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE UNDERDOG!

To come to another team’s game thread and say that right after losing a Super Bowl is not only the exact opposite of saying “good game,” but pretty much the definition of trolling. Now whether or not you feel as though you were justified in doing it is beside the point to me. You pretty much lumped all Colts fans into one category (as you are still doing) when you stopped by to be rude and it was uncalled for. If you have a problem with specific people who stopped by and caused problems you call them out, not the entire game thread of pissed off Colts fans. It was a bad call on your part and was met with pretty much the same reaction as it would be on any team’s site, including your own.

Wrong

Go read the guidelines:

“No profanity. Hell, damn and anything allowed on primetime network television are acceptable on an occasional basis. Nothing else. If you really feel you need to use a bad word, the only acceptable way to do so is using the first letter and truncating the rest of the word, i.e. “s—-.” The rules of tastefulness also apply to your avatars and signatures."

I think the "primetime" should be changed

to cable in general. Just think of all the wondrous things we could say if FX was included.

Yes there is a lot of confusion

because you used s*** and s*** is one of Carlin’s 7 dirty words and frowned upon on primetime TV even though the FCC doesn’t have an actual list.

Personally I love to cuss and have gotten in trouble for cussing several times on here, then got into trouble for the way I used the asterisks – for example I used sh*t, but I was supposed to use s***. I also got in trouble in an open game day thread for cussing.

BS

Yes I came by because like I ALREADY stated, I believed I was cool with the majority of people in the open thread. There were a lot of raunchy jokes, language, banter, good hearted s*** talking, etc. for a period of time that led me to believe that they would understand it was NOT MALICIOUS in ANY WAY and came from the same place that all the joking around had come from. Obviously if I thought I was going to get called a c*** I WOULDN’T HAVE SAID ANYTHING.

Really what it came down to was that they were fine with being nice to us because they thought they were going to win.

The people that came here were long standing members of SB, the same people in the open thread and also the same people that got pissed.

Your little group is known for trolling, especially you, even if you weren’t one of the people that joined them. It’s mostly a group of young snotty kids who think its funny to start crap at other blogs until they get kicked off. You especially don’t like blogs where you can’t cuss. That is why you are a member of almost every single blog on SBN. At least be real here.

Oh look, here we go

Here’s one of the threads I mentioned where your friends came here to troll and treat our members like s*** for fun:

http://www.canalstreetchronicles.com/2010/1/31/1286013/taking-apart-clark-judge-point-by#30049365

Turns out it IS your little group of friends, most of whom signed up in 2009, the ones who you made a pact with to leave Stampede Blue. Guess they weren’t “stupid n00b trolls who signed up within a couple of weeks before the Super Bowl.” OOPS!

And some of us were even nice enough to make friends with them after they treated us badly which was obviously a mistake.

by SarahT on Jan 4, 2012 2:44 AM CST up reply actions

First off,

I think that maybe “trolling” isn’t what you think it is. When someone who doesn’t agree with another person’s analysis of football and then posts a 500 word rebuttal filled with statistical breakdowns and links to all of his sources like was done in the comment you linked to, that is not trolling. It is called a “discussion.” Trolling is when someone enters a discussion with no intention of furthering the actual discourse, but instead who’s point is to disrupt that discourse and illicit a negative emotional response from the parties involved. Taunting, name-calling, intentional falsehoods and flawed logic are the hallmarks of a troll.

I get the impression from this statement:

Your little group is known for trolling, especially you, even if you weren’t one of the people that joined them. It’s mostly a group of young snotty kids who think its funny to start crap at other blogs until they get kicked off. You especially don’t like blogs where you can’t cuss. That is why you are a member of almost every single blog on SBN. At least be real here.

And other people’s comments around these parts that you seem to operating under the erroneous assumption that the only business someone has for joining blogs of a team other than their own is to “start s***.” I assure you that while this may be true for a small amount of people out there, I am not one of them. Admittedly, I have been banned from one blog on SBN, Big Blue View (the Giants blog), due to a misunderstanding that resulted in the banning of several people. Apparently, they have a zero tolerance policy for discussing anything that is off-topic to the body of the article that I was not completely aware of. I am actually somewhat well known and usually pretty well accepted among the many blogs I visit and have built a generally good rapport with many of their bloggers and mods.
Joining other teams’ blogs is not only acceptable, but it is actually encouraged by the way the blogs are interconnected under one site. If these blogs were meant to be insular and for “Saints fans only” then this would not be the case. This is not a private club, it is open to all fans of all teams, I believe, in an attempt to foster a wider sense of community and interaction amongst the varied fanbases.

To re-address the incident where you were cursed. I just don’t know how I can say this where you’ll understand, but there is a huge difference between hanging out in a thread like this one and having a relaxed conversation with some regulars weeks before a game and showing up in a game thread immediately after a team has lost the Super Bowl and taunting the people in there. I’m sorry for how you were treated, but it baffles me that you were shocked by it. I daresay if you stopped by a convent after Notre Dame lost the National Championship and said what you said the nuns themselves would have cussed you.
Once again, sorry for your treatment.

Let me explain it to you like this and I will be done with it

And I will admit I was stupid for assuming it was this way.

Your buddy is one of those sort of loud mouth but likable guys.
You like different teams.
Both teams end up in the superbowl.
He proceeds to give you s*** for several weeks, non-stop, with a lot of funny banter between the 2, A LOT of it coming from him.
Your team wins.
You call him to say haha, in your face, after all the s*** you gave me, we won.
You expect him to say wow okay I get it, damn that sucks – not YOU STUPID C*** YOUR BANNED FROM MY LIFE FOREVER!

Again, I was stupid for assuming they were more mature than they were. And now I am done talking about this.,

by SarahT on Jan 4, 2012 1:52 PM CST up reply actions

That comparison is extremely flawed.

You went into a roomful of virtual strangers and said what you said, not to a buddy that you hang out with all the time. There’s a huge difference. I’m not saying that it excuses rudeness, but like I said, I can see how it happened. Ask any mod, blogger or regular on these sites and they will tell you one and all absolutely not to go to an opposing team’s game thread to gloat right after a loss. It has NEVER turned out any other way than the way it turned out with you. You poked an injured bear. It’s a bad idea to do that.

You also seem to be operating under the impression that only Colts fans came to this site during the week leading up to the Super Bowl and caused grief. I assure you, dozens of Saints fans came to the Colts site and hard-core trolled that entire week. They wrote fanposts and comments that were basically just “YOU SUCK! YOU’RE GOING DOWN SUNDAY! MANNING’S A CHOKER! WHO DAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!!”
Basically, any time Colts fans would try to discuss amongst themselves anything to do with the upcoming game multiple Saints fans would jump in with “MANNING’S A FAKE! BREES GOT ROBBED OF THE MVP! WHO DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!”
My point being that there were plenty of opportunities that week for both good and bad behavior on both sides and you just happened to jump into a pit of super-pissed fans at the worst possible time EVER and talked smack. It was a bad call and I’m still baffled as to why you can’t understand why this happened.

Dammit, Kat.

As I’ve mentioned, I don’t want to make you feel bad about anything and, yet, I know you don’t like it when you see guys from this thread spin out of control because of you – at least, those that aren’t jerks at heart.

The fact is, Kat, I can’t come back here until I’ve had a chance to meet you in person. Absolutely no reason why you should do that, of course. But, it’s not for a weird or creepy reason. It is a bit of an unusual reason (would anyone really expect less from me?), for sure. It’s certainly not for the most obvious reason. I’m bloody near sixty years old, for chrissake. I’m no slouch, but still, … sixty! I cannot explain here. I will explain to any level of detail you please by email. I just can’t explain on this flippin football site, hence, my crypticicity(!!!?!?!). Heck, just even explaining it to you would do me a world of good.

To try to explain, here, unfortunately in my very cryptic way, it revolves around my insatiable curiosity about life. Well, I guess it’s fair to say, also, that what I’m curious about is driving me batty. And, it would be answered in an instant if I saw you in person.

I think it would be worth your while, as well. I think you would learn something rather important about yourself. But, again, I understand there is no reason for you to believe me. And, probably plenty of reasons not to – that’s the wry smile you’re seeing.

Anyways, it’s all good, whatever you decide.

Heck, maybe, if I’m lucky, Dave’ll just block my ass outta here.

by Lythos on Jan 5, 2012 2:37 AM CST up reply actions

Guns and alcohol go hand and hand

Usually when we go hunting ( and this isn’t just my circle) we cook breakfast and drink coffee. Immediately after breakfast you will the beer begin cans pop. Two to 3 beers are usually consumed before you even get on a deer stand. The drinking usually continues through the day with some eating here and there. You are pretty buzzed by the time you get on the deer stand in the evening.

If we are just hanging out and shooting guns then beer is a must have also. Paper targets aren’t any fun at all unless you are sighting in your gun. I usually prefer watermelons but they aren’t always available and can get pricey. The easiest thing to do is drink beer and shoot the empty bottles. It’s a win win situation and saves from spending money on targets.

I'm not arguing against that

I mean I feel safer when I can drink without having to worry about shooting myself in the leg (any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, isn’t purely coincidental) or worry about the guns my fellow drunk friends may carry.

Probably just because I’m not used to that, but still ;)

It was a misunderstanding.

I was taking a break from slamming the pit during Slayer and went to get a beer. I was standing behind the railing overlooking the back of the sound engineer station and these fools on either side of me started slamming into me and made me spill my beer inside a rack full of power amps. Security came to kick out the two idiots and somehow I got lumped in with them and tossed out, too. Luckily, it was almost the end of the show and while I was sitting outside waiting for the show to end and for my buddy to come out one of the tour promoters came up to me and asked what was up. I told him the story and he felt bad for me and hooked me up with a bunch of free CD’s and posters and stuff.

That reminds me.

The same Slayer concert that I mentioned, actually. I was like seventeen, or something and didn’t have (bleep) for money. (My friend and I actually hitchhiked to get to and from the show, and the tickets were given to us by a local radio show DJ) So, after the show, the guys who stand there trying to sell cheap copies of Slayer’s shirts were trying to sell some shirts for $5 or something like that. I told them, “I don’t have any cash man, but I really want one.” As I started walking away, He says, “Hey kid, and throws one at me.” That made my month.

It’s based mostly off of “Twilight Princess” artwork that I saw in a Game Informer a few months before it released. I’ll post a picture of the artwork and my work, if I can find the artowrk on the net. Also included is Zelda, a Triforce, and a pixilated key. I had to pay homage to the original.

Partly my idea

I just wanted something art nouveau. The guy that does our work is a friend of my family and kept bugging me to let him do something. He’s like this crazy artistic genius that you can trust enough to say do what you want. That’s all from his head in one night of work, some of it freehand. I’m also going to have him add some of the poppies from poppy scene in the original Wizard of Oz artwork done by Denslow in 1900.

Anyone recommend a site to check out to pick up a new gaming computer?

After five years it’s time to put the ol’ girl out to pasture. Generally speaking I’ve previously always gone alienware, however, I’m more inclined to spend a little less a simply upgrade more frequently than I have in the past. Dell for some reason doesn’t let you ever switch out cards anymore on their machines, only alienware, but the alienware’s tend to be a little too pushy on the high end options.

I’m just looking for something solid that will last 2 years +…I don’t need a new six core extreme machine with dual 1.5G graphics cards. However, I don’t want to piece meal a machine either. Hence why I’m looking for a reputable online dealer where I can build the machine and know it’s stress tested etc and things will be compatible.

I always get mine custom built

It’s much cheaper and you can pay for what you need and not for a bunch of crap you never use. I use G-force graphic cards and they seem to last a pretty good while without having to upgrade. I have no complaint with the Quad core processors and they seem to get the job done on any game I ask it to play. I play RTS games like Total War and Command and Conquer. They usually take a pretty good system to run 100% perfect with no lag and all graphics turned on ….and I never have any problems. I dropped 1300 bucks for mine. I deal with Computer Heaven in Baton Rouge.

My old system’s a dual core 2.33 with two dual Nvidia 8800GTX’s and I have to run the game on the lowest possible settings imaginable and I’m still dealing with the occasional frame rate drop down to about 10.0. Not good.

Been out looking at CyberPower, Digital Storm, Maingear, Alienware etc.

DK (and that's not Donna Karyn), concerning something we discussed somewhere...
Because they won the NFC South title and had to play in the wild-card round, each member of the Saints earned $22,000 Saturday night.

They will earn another $22,000 by playing in the NFC Divisional Playoffs on Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers.

by singleblow on Jan 10, 2012 3:58 AM CST reply actions

Again I come with a new sig line....

You would have thought that I had learned my lesson last time taking a bet with one of your fellow Saints fans….but alas I am not that smart and I cheer and believe in my Lions til their last breath each season.

Alright kat, I think I found your open thread for a litle bit of gloating for you and your saints fans on a game well played. I still have nightmares about all of the tackles we missed on Saturday because it seemed to be in the 30-40 range. Ah well its over now and I am thinking you guys have a great shot at geting out of the NFC. You just need to make sure your run D is ready to rock this weekend and you should be fine because I cant see San Fran putting up a boat load of points. Good luck rest of the way Saints fans!

Congrats again Kat, as you have put the final nail in my NFL coffin this season. Well at least I still have our Bruins to cheer for!!

They did it for Savy, they did it for Horton, they did it for each other, they did it for us. I give you the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions....The Boston Bruins!!

My Lions lost to the Saints who are clearly the better team. (This is what happens when you back your team and they lose),
