I have been living away from New Orleans for 17 years and I miss it dearly.
I’m grateful both my parents and my in-laws live in New Orleans, so I get to visit about 4 times a year. I have a 6 year plan to get back to New Orleans. New Orleans has it issues, but what city doesn’t. I wouldn’t trade the influence New Orleans has had on my life for anything. Some people just don’t get it. It is like when I talk about New Orleans to people at work they don’t understand how special it is. They think I’m crazy, but I don’t care it is one of my favorite places in the world. Jared Allen can think what he wants, but he lives in freaking Minnesota-the mega spot for fine eatery, music, and culture, not.

NOLA was headed the same way as Detroit was
Only difference is, Detroit’s economy depended on something that could (but no one believe would) stop being profitable. The City of New Orleans depends on tourism, and I don’t think people will ever stop wanting to come to the City. Both places have really bad issues with poverty and crime, and for New Orleans, Katrina exposed that and made it so in America’s face, that the city and state government HAD to work to fix it (though there’s a lot of work to be done, obviously) along with the problems Katrina itself caused.
Detroit on the other hand, had no Katrina. So, things just SLOWLY deteriorated. It’s a sad story for both cities.
That being said, I hope the Saints make Allen cry, and make him spend a night in the 9th Ward alone with angry Saints fans to make up for his words.
