The Saints still believe Shockey can play a role for them and have not closed the door on a possible return should he fail to land a job elsewhere.

Rut Roh, Reff...
Shouldn’t have opened that head of yours so soon on Twitter, me thinks…
"Gowin on fourth and 14 will punt it away. He hangs it very high, angling it for the near sideline...HAKIM DROPS THE BALL!!! HAKIM DROPS THE BALL!! Brian Milne might've fallen on it at the ten yard line! It's the New Orleans Saints' football! Brian Milne, the most unlikely hero of them all, falls on the fumble, the muff by Hakim! There is a God after all!" -- Jim Henderson

this does seem a bit contradictory
to what was said earlier…but if he reassessed his position based on new facts entered into evidence, then it’s good that he made the change.

Please please
I hope this happens so much. Give him a total game milestone bonus so if he’s healthy and contributes he earns it and will have contributed well on field. Guy is great for the team.

meh...
if we get Double Stack back and find a 3rd string TE, where does “J-Shock” fit?
I’m grateful for the things Shockey did for us on the field, especially our SB run, But I think it’s time to move on.

As the #2 TE behind Graham. Sorry, but Shockey is still better than Thomas. Simply a matter of money.

I know I just made it sound like he was never on the field, which wasn’t was I trying to say. But has missed significant games. Last year it was three games, year before it was three, and 2008, it was four.
Is he really that much more appreciably better than Dave Thomas who did miss three games last year, but only missed one game in 2009 when we rested starters?
This is probably all moot since he’s probably going to Miami.

I agree with this. Ideally, at least in my mind, Heath Evans won’t re-sign and Dave Thomas will fill more of an H-back role this season. I’d still like to have a true FB also, but maybe one that can also contribute on special teams coverage. It’s just so seldom that we use three TE packages. At least this way, you’d have everyone involved. And if a TE went down, you’d always have Strief to fill the jubo package role in a pinch.

*jumbo. So, basically replace Shockey with a more versatile FB, then concentrate on re-signing Thomas and Strief. That would be my suggestion.

The base paths belonged to me, the runner. The rules gave me the right. I always went into a bag full speed, feet first. I had sharp spikes on my shoes. If the baseman stood where he had no business to be and got hurt, that was his fault. -Ty Cobb
Shockey already visiting other teams
From Rotoworld:
Free agent Jeremy Shockey will take a physical for an unnamed team on Thursday. We suspect it might be with the Panthers, whose new OC, Rob Chudzinski, was Shockey’s college position coach. Though Shockey has little left in the tank as a pass catcher, he could still help someone as a run-blocking tight end. Other interested teams could include the Rams, Bills, Dolphins, and Titans.

I hope it's in the AFC.
I hate having to face our old players and watching them have a career game against us.

I can't say I'm surprised although I don't want to see him go
Too much time off due to injuries and a couple of potential bad asses ready to take his place doesn’t leave a lot of room on the roster. JS being JS will probably make his feelings very well known on the subject and I hope he finds a happy new “home”.
