Couldn't have been a nicer guy. He was out drinking in downtown Indy with new IU head coach, Kevin Wilson. Apparently the two of them are good friends. Anyway, I tried to get him to tell me what he saw at the combine and who he thought stood out. He was quite good at staying away from specifics. Just said that it's a strong draft class this year and he doesn't think they'll have any problems finding some great talent and shoring up the areas where they need help. He also said something to the effect of, "All I can do is put in my 2 cents on who I'd like to have and who would be the best fit. It isn't me who gets the final say on how everything plays out during the draft days. So if I don't get whoever I had my eye on it's still my job to do my best with what we have."
That's not very telling in my opinion, but take from it what you will. Something about his tone gave me the impression that he wasn't expecting to get who he wants. However, I was relatively drunk so I could've been imagining that. So yeah, really nice guy. Probably talked to him for 20 minutes. I was disappointed that he wasn't wearing his SB ring because I don't think I've ever seen any SB ring close up. He said he doesn't wear it if he knows he's going to be drinking and he doesn't normally take it on trips either.
All in all I was impressed with him. He convinced me to make New Orleans my 'NFC team'. So as long as Tracey Porter isn't taking one to the house on us in the superbowl I'll be rooting for you all on Sundays.
