Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri

Blaine Gabbert. Have you seen his hair during that 40-yard dash at the combine? It was magnificent. It's worth at least four wins this season alone. 

But really, Mizzou's Gabbert is a great pick for the Bills here. Ryan Fitzpatrick had a couple of great games in 2010, but no one is convinced he's a viable option for the future, and while the Bills have a few glaring needs to fill in this draft, Blaine could be a franchise guy that fills the QB hole for an awfully long time. 

The biggest areas of need that I see for the Bills are QB, DE, and OLB. With Bowers off the table and a pretty deep second tier DE, this pick was basically between Texas A&M's Von Miller and Gabbert. I think Nick Fairley could be an option here too, but the Bills seem pretty on the fence in the 3-4/4-3 debate and investing in Fairley doesn't give too much flexibility there. 

Neither the quarterbacking nor outside linebacking is particularly deep.  I see 4 QBs worth taking and even then Mallett and Locker have question marks. If the Bills don't grab one in the first round, the probably won't get one in the second with Arizona, San Francisco, Minnesota and Washington potentially targeting them too. Miller is joined by Akeem Ayers and Justin Houston at the top of the OLB class, and the odds of one of them falling to the second is pretty poor also, but slightly better than the quarterbacks. 

Depending on how you look at it, the Bills are in a great or terrible position here. Great because they have a 3 big holes to fill and can miss getting the top player at one of those positions at the third pick. Terrible because there's not a lot of ways the draft could shake out that would let them fill all those holes with quality players. For this pick, Gabbert is as close to a sure thing at quarterback as there is in this draft, and the Bills have to jump on him.
