NFL Draft 2011: Saints to Trade Down?
There happen to be a lot of teams in this years NFL Draft that need serious help at the quarterback position. Arizona, Buffalo, Carolina, Cincinnati, Minnesota, San Francisco, Tennessee and Washington all fit into that category and will be selecting early in the first round.
While there are quite a few quarterbacks to be had in this years draft, only some are worthy of being selected that high. Quarterbacks like Cam Newton, Jake Locker and Blaine Gabbert will probably be snatched up early. Yet other signal callers like Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernick, Ryan Mallett and Christian Ponder might not be worth such a high draft pick but will still be available late in the first round, thus creating the perfect opportunity for some of those teams to trade back into the late first round in an effort to grab the guy they want.
So for a team like the Saints, with the 24th overall pick, the likelihood of a trade down with one of those teams into the early second round might be a real possibility, allowing the Saints to still grab a player they want while picking up an extra draft pick in the process. Rumors have already been circulating the internet message boards regarding this possibility. Personally, I think this would be an ideal draft day scenario.
But which team would be most willing to trade with the Saints? And who would the Saints select early in the second round?
Talk amongst yourselves.

The Buffalo trade
Pat Kirwan last week suggested a trade where we get the Bills 2nd, both 4ths and the 5th round they got vs our #24. I would love that – you probably still get a stud d-lineman at the start of the second round, and get ammunition for rounds where we have currently nothing. But the very fact this is already out there makes it less likely to happen imo.
Still I wouldnt be surprised if five/six skippers get drafted in round 1, and no RB’s
QB-mania rather Ingram-ania… sorry I couldnt resist…. LOL
Bring the metal....
RE: five/six slippers
yeah there’s always a few guys that slip and a few guys that get picked wayy too high…like last year Sergio Kindle (who had injury and off the field concerns) who slipped into the middle 2nd round and Jacksonville taking Tyson Alualu with the 10th pick. Similar guys could be like Da’Quan Bowers (like Kindle) and someone like Andy Dalton or one of the lower ranking QBs might jump up to the middle first round where the Titans, Vikings, or Dolphins (who don’t have a 2nd round pick) could pull the trigger.
My, philosophy is, basically this. And this is something that I live by. And I always have. And I always will. Don't, ever, for any reason, do anything, to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who or who you are with, or or where you are going, or, or where you've been. Ever. For any reason. Whatsoever.
*I meant guys who get drafted too high and too low..

I'm almost always in favor of trade downs.
Especially when the Saints don’t have a draft pick in the 4th,5th, and 6th rounds. However, let’s make sure one of the good first rounders aren’t there at 24 before they do that. I’m not talking about just Ingram, Kerrigan, Houston, possibly Clayborn.
Canal Street Chronicles-A place of great Saints news and information. Oh and the stuff I write!
Favor
I’m in favor of a trade down unless a stud is there or unless the offer is not good enough. I just don’t see them getting the opportunity this season because I think everyone is going to be a little cautious with no free agent period before draft day.
Saints may also benefit from picking in front of Seattle
Seattle is likely to look for a qb at some point early in the draft, and those teams in the second round may want to jump in front of them to get the qb they want.
Possibly
I don’t see them trading down in the 2nd round, but I could see them trading the 24 pick to get a early 2nd extra pick.
