Saints Mock Draft
Round 1: Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue.
Screw Ingramania. I'm Kerrigansane! But seriously, if I'm a GM spending a late first round pick on a RB this year, it's Mikel Leshoure. I think he will end up with a better career than Mark Ingram. However, I still think a pass-rushing DE is a bigger need than a RB. The only person I'd take over Kerrigan at 24 is Da'Quan Bowers, but I seriously doubt his knee causes him to drop to us.
Round 2: Mason Foster, OLB, Washington.
Having addressed DE in the first round, there's two main draft needs left: OLB and RB. There's 3 guys I wouldn't mind taking with this pick: Foster, Leshoure and Bruce Carter, in that order.
Round 3: Drake Nevis, DT, LSU.
Ya I know. It's Round 3, and we still haven't picked up a RB. But look at our new and improved front 7. Foster, Jonathan Vilma and Jonathan Casillas at LB and then Will Smith, Drake Nevis, Sedrick Ellis and Ryan Kerrigan with their hands in the dirt. Our defense will actually be able to carry us again if our offense stalls.
Daniel Thomas, RB, Kansas St.
He fits what we need at running back, a big bruiser at 6-2, 228. He hits the hole quickly, and doesn't stop moving his feet.
Round 7: Will Hill, S, Florida.
Very athletic, however does have some mechanical troubles with his game. Shouldn't be a problem for G-Dub.
Alex Wujciak, LB, Maryland.
He has a really sweet name. And he loves to hit people. Perfect.
What do you guys think?

Another LSU DT would make me vomit a just a little bit in my mouth. Just let Tampa draft him…he’ll wind up there anyway when we release him.

Ditteaux
Nevis marginally better than Al Woods, but that brings him up to average for the NFL. And yes, I’m the biggest LSU homer on the board.
I think Nevis is much better than Al Woods. That said, he’d play on the level of Anthony Hargove. I think he’d be a better catch with the second 3rd round pick we have….but I’m not necessarily advocating that. There could be better fits for the Saints there, especially if guys like Bruce Carter or Sturdivant are still around (unlikely but possible).

NOOOOO!!!!!
Will Hill at any round.
This may or may not be NSFW, but everyone should be aware of his character.

If Kerrigan and Ingram are gone
I would love to see us trade down. Think about it. We give up our first for a 2nd and 3rd. We can package two 3rds to a team that likes to trade down (Patriots) for their 2nd. Then we’ll have 3-2nd round picks and a 3rd. We could get Bruce Carter and Mason Foster for insurance at LB and still get a solid DE or RB.
Peyton, I can eat Oreos faster than you!!!!
Why draft a return specialist
There are probably some really good ones we could pick up from practice squads.

Really?
Then why didn’t we pick one up when we 100% knew we had nobody to return a kick and subsequently got pounded in the return game during the playoffs?
If someone’s really good in the return game…they aren’t on practice squads.

Serious question...
Are really going to need to spend a draft pick on a solely KR/PR with the Kickoff rule changes? I think unless a guy like Noel Devine is there or we won’t be able to sign UDFAs (which may be the case), maybe the value isn’t there for a strictly return guy. maybe…

Answered this one in another thread, but will do so again. Yes. People don’t realize that more rules changed than just moving the ball up for kickoff. They also changed the run up to the kickoff from 15 yards to 5. That’s 10 yards of steam that the players no longer have to run down, which means even though the kick will be deeper, the players won’t arrive at the ball as quickly either. Not quite enough to completely counteract the placement, but more than enough to make the kicking game still incredibly viable.
