Mickey Loomis: INGRAMANIAC!!!!
jeffduncantp Jeff Duncan
And then pass. RT @RichGannon12: Loomis on Mark Ingram: "He's the #1 RB on our board & if he falls to us @ #24 we'd have that conversation."
Jeff Duncan is not a big fan. But Mickey's words give some hope for the rest of us. Those of us who don't necessarily have to have an LB at #24. Talkin' bout INGRAMANIA!!

Smoke screen
Can you really see him showing his draft plans to Jeff Duncan…. pleaze……
Bring the metal....
Ok it was Rich Gannon… but this is what vox populi Rotoworld thinks of it…
Ingram is the No. 1 running back on the Saints’ draft board, though Loomis also admitted that “the front seven on defense and helping the pass rush” is the team’s biggest need area. Loomis might give the Patriots cause for pause with Ingram, though we’re skeptical that he’d pull the trigger on a back in the first round.
Bring the metal....
The Pats don't want a running back though.
BB is more stubborn than Payton with his backs. Plus their problem was their defense, not their offense. Although, the same could be said about the Saints.

The Patriots are expected to take a running back in the draft, putting the size of Law Firm’s 2011 role in doubt.

I don't believe them.

Did I agree with Rotoworld? GAAAA!!!
Eh, it’s happened before. But I don’t know they’ll spend a first-rounder on Ingram. I expect them to trade one of them away for 2012 picks, and spend the other on the offensive line. So if Ingram falls past Miami, he’ll probably be there at 24.
It was good while it lasted.
The Pat's have 6 picks in the first 92
RB’s are avail, and BB could take Ingram “Just for Spite”

Who wasn’t skeptical that Mickey would take Robert Meachem at #27? Don’t all raise your hands at once.

I was not expecting the Meachem pick AT ALL in 2007
does that mean I should or should not raise my hand? I’m confused, Prof. Johnson

Should not. Whatever the pick or trade up/down turns out to be, we should not be surprised. Mickey’s completely unpredictable.

yeah, after Meach in 07 and P-Rob ’10, I am now fully prepared for absolutely ANYTHING to happen…

Meach and P-Rob are the reasons I’ve decided to prepare for the worst case scenario. I’m starting to wonder if there’s a record for most consecutive draft picks in the first round that weren’t starters their first year (injuries not included).

#Saints GM Mickey Loomis conceded today what most people have long felt: The club’s biggest need is the def. front 7: http://bit.ly/fBDAzkjeffduncantp Jeff Duncan
Have you watched the #Saints play? RT @LJSunTzu: so if everything else he said was smokescreen today, how do u know that wasn’t as well?
jeffduncantp Jeff Duncan
Loomis didn’t say DE, said “front 7.” That means DT, DE & LB. I expect #Saints’1st two picks to address those areas. @LJSunTzu

Duncan is a douche.
He doesn’t deserve the list.
Canal Street Chronicles-A place of great Saints news and information. Oh and the stuff I write!
Hasn't he always been on the list?
I would have a whole chapter dedicated to him. I’m on the list for saying Pay-Loo WILL draft Ingram IF he’s still there at no. 24. Doesn’t count if they trade up, down, or out of the round. I stand by that.

Agreed.
I want Ingram, but I do not want to trade up for him. That would upset me.
Canal Street Chronicles-A place of great Saints news and information. Oh and the stuff I write!
Agree as well
If you’re going to trade up, it needs to be for an elite pass-rusher.
That said, if they all go off the board (along with Costanzo) and Ingram’s there at 24, I say go with it.

FIFY…
If you’re going to trade up, it needs to be for an elite 4-3 outside linebacker or elite pass-rusher.
"It's more than a handful. It's a handsful."
What LB has that much value?
Something else to consider re: Ingram and No. 24 — if there’s a big run on linemen, he might very well BE the BPA at No. 24.

I agree, but
What it would cost to trade up for Miller would be counter-productive. Dude’s almost certainly going in the top-five. If the Saints are gonna trade up it’ll be into the teens.

I agree, for the most part.
I don’t care for draft picks myself, so trade most of them to get a guy like that – maybe. the only problem with trading that high is the salary. I don’t care that we wouldn’t have any other picks to spend.
In a perfect world, we trade all our draft picks (or most of them) for proven FA’s – IMHO. But we can’t… and wouldn’t if we could.
"It's more than a handful. It's a handsful."
I'm with Satch
I’ll gladly take my place on the list…but that opinion really isn’t controversial enough. Half of WhoDat Nation thinks the same thing, I bet.

Here goes Jeff again with his demeaning wise cracks. Yes, Jeff, I have watched the Saints play. I watched their running game suck ass. I also watched them lose quite a few running backs to injury.
Even if they don’t want to take a running back in the first round, Mickey’s a smart man for saying what he said. The Saints should position themselves and give the impression that they would take ANYONE and EVERYONE at the 24th spot. So if Ingram really DID fall to the Saints and some team below them really wanted him, they might look to trade with the Saints.

Does any team have another RB above Ingraham if they are looking to draft one?
That says a whole lot of nothing to me.

Assuming? And drafting accordingly? That’s serious B***S***…

yes, they'd have the conversation...
and that conversation would go something like this:
“Wow Ingram is there! I didn’t expect that. Should we pick him?”
“No.”

Look at how many defensive players the Saints have drafted in the first round in the last 8 years. You think they’re building defense? That they are planning another Dome Patrol? I think Mickey has told GDub to make some chicken salad out of chicken ish while Payton’s boys score some points by running to set up the pass.
Loomis on Mark Ingram: "He’s the #1 RB on our boardThat might be a double fake. Maybe they like Leshoure instead. Or not. Don’t rule anything out.
Ingram possesses a great build and good top-end speed. Highly-competitive runner. Seldom goes down on first contact. Displays rare awareness, vision and patience. Waits for holes to develop, sets up his blockers, sees the cutback and explodes up field. Can make defenders miss in the hole and in space. Fast enough to get the corner. Contributes as a receiver and blocker. That’s pretty tough to reject out of hand at #24. INGRAMANIA!!!

This is going to be weird to say.
Me and Stu are in 100% agreement. They are going to tell GW to make do with what he has or give him some tools in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Payton likes his offense.
Canal Street Chronicles-A place of great Saints news and information. Oh and the stuff I write!
maybe you're right stu and maybe I'm 100% wrong...
but I think Payloo is convinced that they don’t need to spend a high draft pick on a RB. Bush was a different story because, right or wrong, I think they saw him as possessing a unique set of skills. I don’t think the same can be said about Ingram. Wasn’t everybody convinced that we were going to pick beanie wells too? To me it is a similar situation. I’m sure they like Ingram, just not enough to pick him at 24.
I think they recognize that they need to improve the pass rush and will look to address that in some way with the first pick. I’m betting that they’d love to trade down and pick up a 2nd or 3rd rd. pick, but we’ll see.

wait a minute! I've got it!!!
We’ll draft Ingram and then play him at OLB, too!! If we do RBBC, then he won’t be too tired to play defense!!
Can you imagine his quickness and cutting skills allowing him to penetrate the backfield going the other way? He’ll have 35 sacks by Week 8!!

That’s just what he WANTS you to think. Because he really does think that. Or not.
Wasn’t everybody convinced that we were going to pick beanie wells too? That could very well have occurred, but Mickey called BS on the value of the proposed trade to make it happen as I recall. He’s all about value.
I’m sure they like Ingram, just not enough to pick him at 24.Well that’s what they WANT you to think. Or not. I have no idea. None. I just think if they do draft him, I’m going to be pretty hard to live with around here. Ok, harder.

wells
People were calling for us to select Wells with the 14th pick that used on Malcolm Jenkins. We considered trading back into the 1st round to pick wells, but we never considered him at 14 (thank Jeebus)
