Walter Football Mock 2011 Draft (4/5)
I would absolutely go bonkers for this draft.
1. Bowers
2. Martez Wilson
3. Jarvis Jenkins
3. Greg Jones
Other than not addressing OL or TE spot, this is a wicked good draft class. Although, I think we all know SP and co. will be hard pressed to pass up some offensive talent.

Hell to the NO. Not as bad as Bowers looked at his pro day. He looks like a guy with immense upside, true, but also who is BADLY hurt and won’t contribute until 2012 or 2013. I’d be perfectly happy taking him in the 2nd round. We can gamble there. But in the first, we need somebody who can at least contribute and hopefully excel quickly. Bowers doesn’t look like he will.

Seems like every first round pick in the Sean Payton era miss this memo.

Pierre Thomas was hobbling in November. Does that mean we shouldn’t expect anything out of him until late 2011 or 2012?

He was hobbling from an ankle injury. An ankle injury heals much faster than a knee that needs microfracture surgery.
Not that you didn’t know this, of course.
Thomas had microfacture surgery on his knee the year prior. Don’t you recall his “chasing his dog under a fence” alibi? The point being that your greatly exaggerating the expected setback.

kinda makes you wonder if this guys is gonna be the Sergio Kindle of 2011…just keeps slipping and slipping…
Erasmus James fell to 18th because of lingering injury concerns that proved legitimate. Still well worth the gamble at that point for the Vikings, imo. Had he ever played at 100%, imagine how beastly Minnesota’s front four would have been. On top of which, picks in the immediate vicinity included Travis Johnson, David Pollack, Alex Barron, Marcus Spears (LSU! LSU!) and Matt Jones. Where’s the upside in NOT rolling the dice?

Not bad but I would still rather ingram

hmmmm, a 3 down game changing pass rushing DE for a scheme that depends on pressure Vs a possible 3 down RB in a stable of at least one quailty back for a scheme that doesn’t place an emphasis on the run game?
Look, I’m all in on Ingram if there isn’t a top level front 7 talent available, but we need a consitent pass rush from our line!

for a scheme that doesn’t place an emphasis on the run game
Only because they don’t have this:
a possible 3 down RB in a stable of at least one quailty back
The scheme placed far more emphasis on the run game when they did have that type of back (Deuce).
