Stinchcomb surgery more serious than expected
rotoworld.com: Saints RT Jon Stinchcomb is recovering from surgery that reattached his quadricep muscle to his knee. A previous report called Stinchcomb's surgery "arthroscopic," but it sounds more serious when muscles are getting reattached to bones. The Saints are holding individual workouts amid the lockout, and Stinchcomb is unable to do much. Despite his decline as a pass blocker in 2010, the Saints didn't draft a single offensive tackle. It appears he'll return as a starter.
This needs to get fixed. Strief is not a long term solution. Free agent acquisition? All in all, another brick in the wall of Brees' long slow decline.

What's wrong with Strief?
If he ever became a regular on the line and then was able to build chemistry with the other starters, he might impress us. If I’m not mistaken, he’s the biggest dude in the Saints locker room. Charles Brown may be ready for a more expanded role this year as well after learning the system last season.
If Mickey says he’s not worried, then I’m not worried. And yes, if Mickey told me it was safe to jump off the Greater New Orleans Bridge, I would do it.

Satch, my first reaction is "me too"
But then I just thought of last year’s backfield. Mickey said “Not too worried about it” then too. He really relies on people doing their jobs, where I assume that people will somehow disappoint me. That’s why I say GAAAA!!!

If you assume disappointment, you'd be saying GAAAAA!!! less
You know what Einstein said…supposedly…
It was good while it lasted.
Try looking at it this way. They kept saying all last year (when Bushrod stank) that they saw Brown as a future RT. Maybe that was just to deflect criticism of them not replacing Bushrod. But it also could have actually been true. So maybe we already have our backup plan in place in case Stinchcomb can’t recover in time.
And even more importantly, look at when the surgery occurred. It didn’t occur two weeks ago. It occurred “recently” as of January 26th. This means he HAD to have been playing through the injury at least part of last year. I’m betting on all of it. He stank much of the year too. Or at least stank by the standards of 2009, when he was VERY good. So maybe he was just more like average to poor.
So if he was still managing to be average to poor while basically missing one of his more critical leg muscles, imagine how good he can be when he gets healthy again! He might not get all the way back to 2009, but he ought to be MUCH better than last year.
Between that and Brown, I really am NOT worried. As the season approaches if things still look unsettled, THEN I’ll get worried. For now, I’m willing to wait and see.
He's been rapidly declining anyway
I’m guessing he at least has competition for the starting job. Streif and Brown could both be pushing the incumbents. I think Bushrod would go better on the right side anyway, with the more athletic Brown on the left side, but that remains to be seen.

We should have traded him after his lone Pro Bowl season. It’s not like we haven’t been down this road before. At least we’re not toying with the idea of moving him back to LT.

Stinch is good on screens and little else. This all stems back to the Bush pick. D’Brick + Jammal Brown and 2009 (Bushrod) would have just been a bump in the road. Aside from Oher, we haven’t been in a position to draft a franchise LT since … and that would have negated the Jenkins pick. Sucks to be a perennial .500+ team, at least in terms of acquiring can’t miss building blocks for the future.
