Canal Street Chronicles Saints Roster Revamp
Thought this would make for an interesting group activity. Below, I'd like everyone to list the 22 Saints players they'd most be interested in retaining. You're free to include any current free agents who played for the Saints in 2010. You're also free to include any unsigned draft picks. These 22 players should represent the present and future of the franchise, not necessarily the best 22 current players based on their individual achievements as NFL players. For example, while Darren Sharper is a likely future Hall of Famer, you may want to think twice about his overall worth moving forth.
Read on...
If you choose to participate, you will also be expected to take part in the replacement player draft to follow. One player from each of the other 31 NFL teams will be chosen, in an effort to bring the roster back up to 53. There will be standard position minimums and maximums to adhere to, which I'll go into more once we complete this initial "keeper" phase.
As it stands, the first 31 CSC members to reply to this post with a legitimate list of 22 keepers will comprise the draft field and will select in the order in which they responded. If you accidentally list more or less than 22 players, start over. Only entries with EXACTLY 22 keepers will be recognized. Last names only are fine, as long as you differentiate between the Browns (Alex and Charles), the Evanses (Heath or Jahri), the Mitchells (Kawika or Marvin) and the Thomases (David and Pierre). If accepted, I'll respond to your post and assign you a draft position.
After the 31 keeper ballots are tallied, I'll compile our partial roster with the top 22 vote getters and come up with the guidelines for our template. If there are ties for the 22nd spot, we'll have a poll to determine who stays and who goes. Once all of that is hammered out, we'll begin the draft, filling in all roster vacancies at the discretion of each official participant. Again, every other NFL team must be represented and the position limitations will be finite, so the decisions should get easier as we proceed. And no, I will not be participating in this exercise myself. Lastly, please do not copy and paste anyone else's exact list. Duplication by virtue of shared opinion is fine, but the initial goal here is a true group consensus. Besides, there may be someone you really like that they completely overlooked.
On your marks ... get set ... GEAUX.

Btw, if we don’t get to 31 by Sunday, we’ll divide up the picks as evenly as possible, reverting back to the top of the order.

You’re going to complain about biting? How about cross-checking a defenceless player in the head? Don’t try and play all high and mighty. You’re Bruins played just as dirty last night. And how about your boy Horton? He had a great game eh?

Don’t sweat it. Plenty of good Ks and Ps in the league.

from what I read it was just whatever 22 players you wanted to keep, whether backups or starters or special teams

Correct. Even some of our starters will inevitably be upgraded upon, so it doesn’t really matter. And for the record, you guys are handcuffing the cr** out of the WR position.

There would have been one less WR and RB on mine if I realized about the K/P thing.

- Frankly I view the special teams contribution possibilities of Robinson, Casillas, Dunbar and Wilson more than I do Meachem as a # 1 WR. (I view Colston as a better possession/#2 WR option…#1 will have to come through the draft)
"Winter is coming"
A lot of love for Tennant in this room. I must be missing something.
Politics I supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. Ronald Reagan
He was expected to push Goodwin…a one time probowler..for the starting spot as well as having the capability of filling in at any of the guard spots. Depth is important my friend…especially one that can play a number of position on the offensive line.
"Winter is coming"
Goodwin’s also 32. Not to mention, do you truly want to rule out every other player on ANY team, in favor of a center?
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
I’d have a hard time picking anyone over Mangold on the Jets. Granted Revis is great…but he’d be the only one to come to mind that I’d want.
"Winter is coming"
I’d take D’Brick over Mangold.
Mark Ingram-OROY
Cam Jordan-DROY
New Orleans Saints-2012 Super Bowl Champs
I might…except there are about 10 tackles I’d rate higher than D’Brick…nobody i’d rate higher at center than Mangold.
"Winter is coming"
That’s where strategy is going to play a big part in all of this. Teams void of talent are truly the first ones that should be targeted. Someone like Posluszky makes a lot of sense early on.
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
I can see Im in over my head. It should be fun though. Maybe I will learn a little sum sum.
Politics I supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. Ronald Reagan
So, I cant pick O line in the draft? A “one time probowler” with a Super Bowl ring could make a nice backup. I also said before that I did not read the whole story before cashing a check my a** cant cover.
Politics I supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. Ronald Reagan
Odds are we’re going to wind up still needing at least one center, regardless. Possibly two, if one isn’t a deep snapper. I’m just saying most teams have more to offer than that, in terms of room for improvement. There’s nothing inherently terrible about Tennant. He’s young and may very well wind up being our starter this year IRL. There are definitely worse prospects you could hang on to.

Between Reggie, Cassilas, Johnny P, and Tony Hargrove
Is it bad that Reggie won my vote between those 4? I’m not happy that I only have 2 LB’s but I think we can all admit that is a glaring hole on the Saints Roster.
Maybe you can get Harper to beef up and play LB in a pinch.

Yea Harper 1 on 1 with a TE. Where have I seen that before? We need to keep MJ away from the line of scrimmage and only use Harper to support the run. We have so many DB’s now that I would actually take Harper off the field on 4 wide sets. I mean bring in an extra corner and keep MJ deep.

I wouldnt mind this. Who would you like to replace him?
Politics I supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. Ronald Reagan
I would put Porter, Greer, Robinson, Torrance or Johnny P. I’m assuming Randall Gay is gone if not he would be 4th corner. I would actually probably move in Sharper and let MJ take over SS in a 4 wide set assuming their offense doesn’t have an extra TE or FB in the game.
Yes I’m sorry Reggie will have to get the cut. I apologize for my lack of count. I am afraid to list my Alma Mata, they might take back that degree.

I should just let 'em go, but...
He's not a bad player...I think he is even a decent starter
But we’re picking the best 22 players on the team in comparison to their peers on other teams, really. First thing I’d do would be to pick a great OLB. It could make a dramatic impact on the defense and the team at large, IMO.

FYI
There are 6 participant slots remaining.
13 votes currently represents the 22nd roster spot. That means that any player with 19+ votes has already clinched a spot on the roster. There are 14 such players, meaning there are 8 roster spots still up for grabs.
Conversely, any player with fewer than 7 votes thus far has been mathematically eliminated. That leaves 15 players (with 7-18 votes) on the bubble. 8 will make it, 7 won’t.

I had to many players on the last post so this is the new one!
P.S. If you’d like to participate, please replace Asomugha and Mikell with current Saints players. While both players would be welcomed additions to the roster, this is the KEEPER phase. We will later advance to the ACQUISITION (draft) phase, at which point you’ll be able to pick up ONE of those, provided no other Raiders/Eagles have been selected, whenever it’s your turn to select. Which should be sometime in August, based on how long this is taking.
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
I’m setting a deadline of noon tomorrow (CST). If we don’t have 31 participants by then, however many ballots we have will decide it and we’ll roll with what we have. Anyone participating will have up to 24 hours to make their selection once it’s their turn. If you miss your turn or screw up the pick based on team/position need, you’ll be dropped from the participant rotation. As long as you remain punctual, mistake-free and compliant to the simple rules, you’ll eventually be entitled to another pick, should the lack of overall remaining participants permit. In other words, no one’s going to cause us to be delayed more than once.

Four bubble players were just eliminated. As it stands:
5 participant slots remain
14 players have clinched roster spots
8 roster spots remain for Saints players
11 players are still on the bubble
3 of which won’t make the roster

That’s not true. You could upgrade to a better internet browser. Google Chrome and Firefox are much less susceptible to viruses, and they don’t have trouble posting anything.

I’ve used Firefox before and hated it. Just recently deleted Google Chrome. It was slowing my computer down and I can’t stand having more than one toolbar. I’ll wait until they straighten out their problem.
