If the Saints decided to go after a WR in free agency...
So there's been talk for awhile here at CSC about the Saints not having a "true" number one wideout with the ability to stretch the field and demand attention. If the Saints front office decided that it was a real need and aggressively pursued one in free agency (assuming free agency ever gets started), which receiver would you be most interested in landing? For the purpose of this exercise, let's assume we retain Lance Moore, but let Courtney Roby walk.
This FanPost was written by a reader and member of Canal Street Chronicles. It does not necessarily reflect the views of CSC and its staff or editors.

And...
I just saw that Grizz already made basically this same post about a month ago. Whatever! Fans are fickle and their opinions may have changed. Also, everyone loves clicking on polls.
Vilma was acquired by trade. So Jason David remains the most recent high profile free agent acquisition by the Saints. In 2007. So, is it time? Or does Mickey just not like signing and paying for high profile free agents?

What about Shaun Rogers?
Sure he came relatively cheap, but he’s still a big FA aquire.

you've never heard of shaun rogers?

How have you never heard of him?
Rogers was an amazing player in his prime.

Rogers was an amazing player in his prime.
How amazing was he? And was his prime during his stint with Detroit, or Cleveland? Or the University of Texas? He plays defensive tackle, right? And how would I know him again??

He was the guy that blew up the interior of our o-line last season. Remember the pressure in Brees face all game? That was him.
Maybe MARY JANE will load up and pass the PEACE PIPE around the conference room and they’ll all get happy in a big hurry, which might just help speed up the process. - HansDat
Remember the pressure in Brees face all game? That was possibly due to him.
FIFY. Rogers is credited with 1 tackle, 0 assists, 0 sacks, 0 QB hits and 1 QB pressure in that game. It definitely wasn’t him in Brees’s face. That said, Browns’ LBs were heavily involved statistically, including three sacks. Gocong was playing inside that game, so Rogers may have contributed to his. Brees was also picked off four times under front 7 pressure. Again, possibly LB related via gaps created by Rogers, though less likely in a 3-4. It’s an indirect correlation at best, but I did enjoy the tall tale.

Glad you enjoyed it. I hope you’re not stuck in the rain this morning. I don’t know which way you take to get to work. DONT take the Earhart expwy. If you get off the bridge at Frontage rd. its starting to flood also. I hope everyone gets to work safe this morning. This weather is nothing to play with.

Came in through some heavy flooding on Burmaster. Made it in ok, though.

It's hard to quantify a 3-4 NT unless you watch him.
But to say he’s not a big pickup just because you haven’t heard of him is ridiculous.

He’s a big pickup all right. Look at that giant ass. We’ll see what he does for the Saints.
I used me as a barometer. I know the average Saints fan didn’t know who in the hell Shaun Rogers (that’s his name, right?) was when he was acquired. I didn’t know Vilma at that time either, but I was pretty excited to get him after I read about him. Not that excited about the Fat Boy or whatever he likes to be called.
The years keep flyin' by like the highline poles
A starting NFL DT for oh, the last ten years, three Pro-Bowl rosters, almost 500 tackles, almost 40 sacks, a 66 yard forever-replayed-on-tv interception return TD, a high profile 4 game suspension, at least one high profile non-football news story (the gun in the carry on luggage) and two other low-key mentions (assaulting a stripper and apprehending a drunk driver) , a game against the Saints in the Superdome within the last year, I have no idea how you might have heard of the guy before.

He played for THE LIONS and THE BROWNS. ON DEFENSE.
Plenty of room on the List for all you Fat Boy lovers who are so excited about the Saints’ big free agent acquisition. If you’d like to join Jr in making a, shall we say, “ridiculous” prediction about his 2011 performance, please… oh yes PLEASE do so for the record.

He'll score seven touchdowns.
(I dare you!)

Halati Ngata
Kyle Williams or
Justin Smith
And neither do most fans who don’t follow their teams.

Halati Ngata, of the Ravens… One of the two best NT in the game?

Well Jay, it’s a long list. But to the point, I guess I just don’t care about defensive linemen.

Is that how we got to Shaun Rodgers...
He’s converting to WR is he?

hope the o-line gives Drew more time this year!

I’m not saying I love the acquisition. Dude’s eleven years into a career. All I’m saying is that, for the bloody record, let’s just note that you, somehow, had never heard of the guy before.

let’s just note that you, somehow, had never heard of the guy before.
Let’s also note how outraged you all are about it. Why do you care how dumb I am? You should just dismiss me like you do tommy.

I’ll admit I’m bothered by it more than I should be. It probably has something to do with you appointing yourself the unofficial barometer of footballing intelligence on the site. If someone says something dumb or blinkered, you’re one of the first to jump all over them for it. Yet here you are showing us that your own knowledge of the game barely passes onto the defensive side of the ball.

the only negative about the ones i would most want to sign
is that they would require a hefty sum of money. That would be Rice and Jackson. Besides that I’d like Randy Moss then Holmes at reasonable prices. Moss gets no more than 2 years though
Let's have a 2011 season. Get a deal done
I was hoping to vote for Malcom Floyd, but all I saw was Malcolm Floyd.
Wasn’t sure if that was the same guy, so I voted for Rice instead.

Danny Amendola isn’t mentioned, but I think he’d be a nice fit on the Saints. He’s basically a 2 year younger version of Lance Moore, for what will likely be considerably less money.
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
can't stand him
I’ve owned him in a keeper league for a couple of years. We’re about to undergo a separation.
rotoworld.com:
Rams extended exclusive rights free agent tenders to WR Danny Amendola. Amendola led the Rams in receiving and will return as the starter in the slot.
Mar 3, 9:48 AM Danny Amendola’s 8.1 yards per catch in 2010 was the lowest average in NFL history for a wide receiver with at least 60 receptions. Jun 28, 9:55 PM
The years keep flyin' by like the highline poles
YPC is a substandard indicator of WR talent. What’s his YAC? Probably next to nothing, not unlike Moore. Odds are he’d be catching the ball further down field in the Saints offense. He’s also a considerably better punt returner than Moore and handles kickoffs about as well as Roby has over the last couple of season (again, two years younger).
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
and will return as the starter in the slot.
Slow down there, Rotoworld. The Rams spent their 3rd and 4th round picks on WRs and free agency is still to come. He’ll definitely be returning as a STARTER, though. SMH at this garbage.

No love for Santonio?
I would like to see Holmes or Rice.
Peyton, I can eat Oreos faster than you!!!!
Is Mike Williams of TB availible after one year???
Or are yuy talking about the Mike Williams from Seattle?

"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - M.H.
Vincent Jackson... BY FAR! <--------
6’ 5" 238lbs
Catches the back shoulder well…. catches everything else well too.
Holmes would be an easy second choice.
Then Rice.
Then maybe, Steve Smith.
Then, our options drop off a cliff… not really, by Moss and Moss and Owens are too far past their prime.
"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - M.H.
Holmes is a drughead and a diva. Not that I care. Just thought I’d bring it up, since everyone else seems to dwell on the non-football related stuff when there’s a bigger name player suggested.
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
So, you’re saying Rice should be second?
I don’t mind swapping Holmes and Rice for #2.
VJ is still #1 by far.
"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - M.H.
Rice is #1 imo. Jackson’s a product of a spread offense. He’d do well here also, but wouldn’t bring much more to the table than what we already have. I like his size. His attitude leaves a lot to be desired. If a receiver isn’t happy in an offense as wide open as San Diego’s, that just seems like a straight up malcontent to me. Rice seems like less headaches, though he has missed some time with injuries.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t care if he smokes pot. As long as he’s catching passes on Sunday and doesn’t get caught (read: missing playing time because of it) he can be a freebaser, for all I care.
