NFL LOCKOUT UPDATE: Owners Approve New CBA, Lockout Almost Over
One down, one to go! The NFL lockout is almost over and the return of NFL football is nearly complete!
NFL owners have voted unanimously 31-0 (Raiders abstained) in favor of the new collective bargaining agreement and settling of the Brady v. NFL anti-trust lawsuit. Yeah, baby!
All that's left is for the players to approve, which I'm sure will happen. They have a conference call scheduled for 8 p.m. EST.
Roger Goodell is expected to speak with the media very shortly.

Don't you get the feeling that...
all this hype is putting much more pressure on the players than the owners? And who nurrished that hype? Brilliant manipulation of public opinion by the NFL if you ask me. I’ll bet you my left kidney that all those anonymous sources close to the negotiations are owners pissing in the ears of thankful journalists now able to ink there article.
Repeat? Under construction...
Of course it is.
It’s brilliant on their part. But I want a deal done. They’re going to get screwed by the owners, just like the owners got screwed in 2006. Owners held a grudge, for some reason.
Canal Street Chronicles-A place of great Saints news and information. Oh and the stuff I write!
"I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose...Rapture!"
I don;t think there's any more pressure on the players now... and have no idea why the media is saynig that.
If you and I had a contract on the table, and I jumped at the chance to sign it.
Would that put pressure on you? Or, would it make you (and outside observers*) think that the deal was slanted in my direction… thus giving you sympathy that the owners are trying to screw them again.
"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.
Many people, especially the ones who are “siding” with the player, are giving the players sympathy, not pressure.
The owners loved the deal. I was surprised that 31 teams said yes… That means they love the deal.
So…
The skeptics (ie. player supporters especially) will assume that the deal is slanted towards the owners – still.
Thus… no pressure on the players because (many fans think) the deal is bad for the players.
"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.
Sympathy?
You’re american laws proved the owners wrong with that TV deal. I’ll never take the side of a filthy rich bully….
Repeat? Under construction...
exactly, and many other share your view.
Is there any pressure on the players from YOU?
Do you think they should sign it no matter what’s in it?
"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.
Either we're miles away
or my English is that bad…
I personnally would have my lawyers go throught the whole thing as long as they have to (especially for a 10 year commitment) before signing anything.
You’re right, they don’t get pressure from me. But I seriously doubt I represent the average football fan. And if that pressure from most of those fans, ignorant of all the ramitifications involved and nurrishing themselves from the medias isn’t enough, medias are surely taking it in there own hands making sure players look like p***ks if they don’t ink that proposal.
Repeat? Under construction...
It’s an incomplete contract. And you have a short time to make a decision. BS.
Join the army, if you fail
exactly… many fans agree with you… so, you (and those fans) will understand if the golden boy players don’t sign the agreement that the evil owners have already signed.
"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.
That fans like you and stu aren’t putting any pressure on the players.
(I’m not either, but I’m not as strongly supportive of the union as you guys are.)
And, you two do represent MANY of the NFL’s fanbase.
No pressure from you = no pressure from millions of other fans like you.
"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.
I thought the topic was...
medias being manipulated by the NFL. That is what you answered to, no?
Repeat? Under construction...
It was a slight tangent…
The media is being fed information by both sides. I will not deny that.
But, I think this is just the media being the media.
"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.
And I was replying to…
“Don’t you get the feeling that… all this hype is putting much more pressure on the players than the owners?”
I don’t think there is pressure on the players.
"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.
You seem like a good man...
But, seing all the public hate the players had until now and the fact that the medias have been exclusively fed from the owners side since two days urging players to sign makes me wonder if we live on the same planet…
Repeat? Under construction...
“all the public hate the players had”
are you saying people were hating the players? or the players were hating the owners?
“the medias have been exclusively fed from the owners side”
That is 100% false. If you think the NFLPA doesn’t have a PR firm working HARD for their side, you are vastly underestimating their business savvy.
They are fighting for a 50% stake in a 9 Billion dollar pie.
They are investing in PR as much as the owners are.
"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.
More pressure…
How about all the non-player employees of all the owners?
(We’re both grasping at straws with this line of debate.)
Bottom Line: There $4.5Billion of pressure on both sides.
"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.
Wait.
Players, as of tonight vote, don’t hold in there hand the non-football staff future they work with and got to know on a personnal basis? You’re right, no pressure at all….
Repeat? Under construction...
My point is...
There is no extra pressure on the players to sign the agreement, that the media is reporting.
"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.

I wonder when this is all said and done if we will still have all the Brees haters of a couple days ago?
So, 70% completions (ie. most of the time) doesn’t justify his salary?

I’m 95% certain because the head of their (soon-to-be) union is trying to “sell the players” on voting yes. The guy who has been fighting for them is recommending that they vote ‘yes’.
"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.
And, he’s got a great sales pitch…
“You want to get paid this year and the next 9 years after that?”
“Yes.”
“Great! Say that one more time when your vote comes around.”
