Roger Goddell said in his press conference that THERE IS NO LINE IN THE SAND, drop dead date that the union has to reform.

Yes, they have to re-certify before the lockout is over, but he said there is NO REQUIRED DATE to do so.

"It ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and KEEP MOVING FORWARD. That's how winning is done!" - R.B.

That’s very reasonable. However, he did set the dates for free agency to start, etc etc, hence, pressure on players.

by FrenchFreak on Jul 21, 2011 7:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Where is this pressure coming from?

And, is there no “pressure” on the owners?

EVERYONE wants to get paid.

There is “pressure” on everyone who wants to get paid to sign an agreement.

If the player don’t sign, they don’t get paid.

If the player don’t sign, the evil owner don’t get paid either.

There’s no extra pressure on the players than there is on the owners.

And, is there no "pressure" on the owners?

That’s right. They did their part, ratified the agreement. Now it’s the players’ turn. And be sure to US mail those union sign up cards in because it’s not a deal until that gets done.

Very sneaky of the owners
As you know the Owners have ratified their proposal to settle our differences," the e-mail states. "It is my understanding they are forwarding it to us. As you may have heard, they apparently approved a supplemental revenue sharing proposal. Obviously, we have not been a part of those discussions. As you know from yesterday, issues that need to be collectively bargained remain open other issues such as workers compensation, economic issues and end of deal terms remain unresolved. There is no agreement between the NFL and the Players at this time. I look forward to our call tonight."

Next time this whole lockout deal happens...

the fans should have some reps in the room to tell us what is going on. LOL. Media don’t know jack and most of the players dont even know whats going on. and the owners double talk. Its just frustration all around.

Patience, everyone

The players would be stupid to vote on this tonight since they reportedly still haven’t received a deal to review. Pretty underhanded, strong-arming BS by the owners, IMHO. The players can still take a few more days at least to vote and still save all preseason games. No need to get this done tonight. Whatever they vote on they’re stuck with for the next ten years. Better get it right now.

So, send the proposal to the players would be the first step.

There's a difference between a summary and the fully detailed deal.

Would you vote on something this big based just on a summary? I sure as hell wouldn’t. They can’t and shouldn’t vote until they get the fully detailed document. The devil is in the details.

I’m outta here. Nothing is getting done tonight.

I wouldn’t either.

I agree with you 100%…. IFF it’s true, that the players don’t have the full agreement, they SHOULD NOT vote on it.

But, I think they have the full document now, and have had it for a while.

Thats what I'm saying...from all indication this week

thats how it was going to go. The owners were going to vote then the players to ratify the deal. The PLAYERS are the ones who refused to vote yesterday, they didn’t, they voted to have D. Smith and crew come to an agreement then vote on a conference call today. Now they’re saying they don’t have the whole deal well whose fault is that you could have said yesterday hey, can we get a draft of the thing to go over tonight then vote on Thursday, but you left your negotiating team there to do it instead and now you wanna get mad because you feel like you’re getting pushed when YOU were the ones to hold up the process by not even trying to see the details yesterday. Its just frustrating. There’s obviously a disconnect and maybe it would have been a better idea for both sides to be in the same city to make it easier to communicate.

Thats what I'm saying obviously the owners had some form of draft of a deal and were

ready to vote today, they wanted the players to vote first but it seemed like the player reps just didn’t want to go through the tediousness of reading it line by line so they decided to let the negotiation team do it for them and get back to them today. So to say that they didn’t have any type of a deal in front of them YESTERDAY is weird. Because they WERE SUPPOSED TO VOTE YESTERDAY but decided not to. Thats not the owners fault. I find it hard to believe after all that had went on that they would put a deal in front of them that the negotiating team DID NOT agree on at least with a hand shake.
