NFL LOCKOUT UPDATE: Players Conference Call Over, Lockout Still Ongoing
The Players Conference call has ended with no vote. Jason LaCanfora tweets:
NFLPA conference call over - no vote taken. Officials leaving here. Players want to see all remaining details resolved and see full language....Of any deal before voting on anything.
UGH!! It seemed like it was all going to be over, but now we are just going to have to wait another day. I've got some tweets to give some more information on what's going on beyond the jump.
UPDATE: [ 7/21/11 9:42 PM CDT] Here's more information about the potential lawsuit the players may slap the NFL with:
"In addition to depriving the players of the time needed to consider forming a union and making needed changes to the old agreement, this proposed procedure would, in my view, also violate federal labor laws," Berthelsen said in the email. "Those laws prohibit employers from coercing their employees into forming a union and could result in any agreement reached through the procedure being declared null and void."
Texans owner Bob McNair told me he thought players would ratify the CBA. Assume some owners are shocked right now.
wow! in a 2nd email to players de smith says the nfl may be in violation of federal labor laws by trying 2 coerce plyrs into forming a union
Email says NFL's rough timeline violates fed labor law: "Those laws prohibit employers from coercing their employees into forming a union."
Todays nfl events so far not surprising. i was immediately skeptical when not one owner voted against it!! seemed odd to me
League official claims De Smith and leaders have had the documents.... this is strongly refuted by NFLPA
Important clarification by @AdamSchefter that team facilities won't open unless the players leadership group approves the deal.

Calling Mr. Mediator. Help. 1st, the players are “upset” that the NFL fixed it’s revenue sharing issue betweein owners— an issue that should be negotiated between owners and an issue players showed no intrest in discussing. 1- the players agree to the CBA, a CBA that will be good for 10 years. 2- it’s in their best intrest that the owners share mroe revenue amongst themselves— it means less of the “player’s money” going to owners and more economically viable teams on a level plain.
Next, the issue that seems to be holding up the players is the settlement of the lawsuits. What’s there to settle? You have a ******* CBA that both sides have said is fair and good for the next decade. Wasn’t that the point of the lawsuit— to get to this juncture? Your there. Tell your lawyers to shut the **** up and move forward.
How’s this for terms of settlement: drop the f****** lawsuits and sign the f****** deal. Enough already. Tell Vincent Jackson to go f*** himself if he wants a special $10 million to settle the lawsuit that was supposed to represent all players. And if you can’t do it, maybe the courts need to step in.

Sorry for the rant, but both sides have repeatedly said they are happy with the CBA, and the players have their panties in a twist of the settlement of the lawsuits. I don’t see the issue. The lawsuit was leverage to get you a fair CBA. You got it. Stop being a****** about it.
And I’m sorry, if you have 32 player reps, and some of them don’t know what the negotiating team knows, you have a major FAIL with only you to blame. If you can dissolve the union in one day, you can recertify it. F*** the “we want to recertify on our own timeline, blah blah”. Stop acting like a b**** because you won’t look like the Alpha.

i can understand the hesitation on the players behalf tho b/c they will feel the effects of this deal for 10 years.that’s a big deal. i don’t doubt the players had a hankering of what the owners were brewing.

1 thing I’m confused on. Player reps get strong email questioning legality of deal before call, but not details of deal itself?

Someone tell George it worked. If you’ve got a fair CBA, you don’t need a lawsuit. The “outstanding issues” is a few lawyers trying to make more money (and players— Vincent “DUI” Jackson). The lawsuits have no more purpose. Stop playing games. Listening to the “issues” on the tv, I have to say it’s all BS.
Players had the chance to make a proposal and put it in the owners court by saying, we’ll agree to the CBA if you agree to these terms of settlement on Wednesday. Instead, they stuck their thumbs in their * and pretended everything that happened over the last 4 months was new news. Tweet to George— **** you.

Answer this— both sides have gone on record saying the new CBA is fair and good. The remaining issue is the settlement of lawsuits and recertification of the CBA. The point of the lawsuits was to get new fair good CBA. You’ve got that. What’s the point of not dimissing the lawsuits? What is there to settle? CBA reached, check. Lawsuit now pointless, check. Drop lawsuit, recertify, and sign the deal. Ooohhh, NFL did what you should have done yesterday and said we approve of this CBA as long as lawsuits are dropped and Union recertifies.
What’s the issue, that they are saying the ball is in your court and you have to do what you’ve been knowing you had to do all along? That “we want to do it on our terms and timing” is a crock of ****. **** you players.

rotoworld.com:
NFLPA boss De Smith sent an email to the board of player representatives, clarifying that there is “no agreement” with the owners as of Thursday night. In a final power play, it’s beginning to look more and more like the owners ratified their own proposal rather than an agreement between the two sides. Profootballtalk’s Mike Florio believes “there’s no way” players will approve the deal Thursday night, as the NFLPA insists on collectively bargaining several outstanding issues. We’re no longer buying commissioner Goodell’s claim that Smith signed off on this deal. The NFL is simply tightening the vice grip to apply pressure in the public eye.

I don't blame the players for wanting to take their time to figure out what all is in the CBA
and at this point the sides are trying to figure out ancillary things
Players who should be in the Hall of Fame: Pat TIllman, Dwight White, Donnie Shell, L.C. Greenwood, Ray Guy, Steve Tasker, Jack Butler, Greg Lloyd, Andy Russell, Cris Carter, Kevin Greene, Curtis Martin, Willie Roaf, Andre Reed and Jerry Kramer

Reading what, a series of opinions with no facts to back it up? Apparently Florio is a douche all the way up until he says what you want to hear.

I read it… looks like a bunch of BS…
“it’s beginning to look”
That’s the start of an opinion.
Also, notice the source… It might has well have said “National Enquirer”… actually, NE is not as bad because no one in their right mind believes that s***, and they don’t pretend to be telling you the truth.

I wondered if this would happen
From what I understood this agreement gave the owners 52% which was the same agreement the owners presented the players with back in March. Aside from the minor changes agreed upon (if you consider the changes in workout, salary cap, etc minor compared to the $$) this entire ordeal would have been pointless. Not to mention the TV deals among a few other issues dealing with money have not been decided on.
What the players have said is that they haven’t really had a chance to read the entire deal so maybe some things they weren’t expecting changed. Who the f*ck know anymore.
Tiger's blood!!
Allow me to reference a left wing periodical
The new contract would include a provision that gives players between 46 percent and 48 percent of league revenues. That’s down from the previous agreement’s 50-50 split. Are NFL players getting screwed on their share of league revenues, compared to other sports?
Read more here and become indoctrinated.

Whatever the % is, THE PLAYERS LEGAL COUNSEL HAVE ALREADY AGREED TO IT IN PRINCIPLE.
The % is not new. They didn;t sneak it in. It’s old news, that has no bearing on the agreement.
And, to answer the question directly, No they are not being screwed.
It’s not show friends. It’s show business. The owners aren’t running non-profits.

I don’t see it that way. It’s kind of like a boxing match that does not result in a knockout. Or a football game with the home team ahead by 4 touchdowns at halftime: Why even play the second half? The players didn’t know what they could get until they tried, and couldn’t know until enough time ticked off the clock. Revenue concessions on their part, no 18 game season, a 10 year agreement with no opt out, and who knows what else they got out of the process. I’m pretty pleased with the process, as long as they sign by Monday or so.
Aww, rock on George for Ringo one time
a 10 year agreement with no opt out,
I guess the players don’t like that after all.
