Saints DO NOT Negotiate Contract with Wide Receiver DeAndre Brown

I thought John Chiles would be the third and final receiver for the night. It seems I was wrong. The New Orleans Saints have signed Southern Miss wide receiver Deandre Brown.

So the Saints plan on bringing four new wide receivers to camp? They must be stocking up for training camp practice routes.

UPDATE [07/26/11 10:59 PM CDT ]: Brown has signed with the Eagles, NOT the Saints. These reports were premature.

From CBS Sports:

Strengths: Looks the part. Flashes a strider's speed and strong hands. Shows relatively quick feet for his size on stutter routes and on out-cuts. Good shoulder shimmy to get free on the skinny post. Nice red-zone target. Works himself open when his quarterback is scrambling, either coming back to the ball or releasing deep. Height and vertical give him a chance to win any jump ball and he uses his length to separate. Tracks the ball over his shoulder.

Weaknesses: Injury history is worrisome. Eases off the line. Takes time to get to full speed. Can turn and run after the catch, but won't elude most pro corners. Hands are inconsistent, seems to feel the hit before it comes. Should win jump balls more consistently given his size. Goes after targets when blocking for the run, but lacks flexibility to sustain against smaller corners. Plays with attitude, but maybe a shade too much; worries about getting pass interference calls more than out-working smaller corners.

2010 Season

Missed seven games during the year with a lower leg strain … Totaled 16 catches for 264 yards … Caught at least three passes in four of the five games that he played … Best game of season came in which he caught five passes for 100 yards against Prairie View (9/11), for the seventh 100-yard receiving game of his career … Had longest catch of 53 yards at UCF (11/13) and also added an acrobatic touchdown catch in the end zone … Ranks No. 5 at the school in receptions (130), third in receiving yards (2,166), and second in TD catches (24) … Earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the spring semester.

This makes four wide receivers the Saints have grabbed in undrafted free agency thus far. Do any of these players stick out to you as a needle in the haystack?

Dude could be a freak. He’s got Megatron potential. Anyways, there’s been debate about him tonight. Many report he’s signed with Saints, others report he’s on a flight to Indy Thursday. Jeff Duncan says he’s hearing both and that for now it’s Saints, but signings aren’t official till 9 am, so much can change over night.

More confusion. I went to check his facebook personally, and there are multiple. But the Deandre touchdown brown page has him saying in the last few minutes “lockout is finally done, my time to shine” with a few people congratulating/asking about Saints signing.

Maybe part of the earlier conflicting reports about Indy stem from this page. He has flying to Indy on Thursday, but that was back in FEB (for draft) and others on twitter didn’t notice? As for the Philli rumor, I’m still trying to track that.
