The Latest in Saints Free Agency News: Evening Update

Stay connected for news and updates

Are we having fun or what? I don't know about you guys, but I am loving this shortened free agency period. I think they should officially make free agency a week or two week process every off-season from here on out. Throw that into the new CBA before you sign that sucker. Anyway, let's catch up on what's been happening in the world of Saints free agency.

The big news of the day was the re-signing of Lance Moore to a five year deal. Admit it...Lance scared the $#!& out of you with that first tweet. I like the move, though. Sure, catching passes from Brees is a cushy gig but let's not underestimate Moore. Plus, he's a standup guy off the field.

Also signed today was veteran linebacker Will Herring from the Seattle Seahawks. This move comes as a bit of a surprise with all the Rocky McIntosh rumors and the fact that Herring is a relative unknown.

Martez Wilson announced he would be wearing #95 for the Saints this season. We erroneously assumed his tweet meant that he had signed a contract with the team but that wasn't the case. Still, I'm sure it's gotta be coming soon.

Cameron Jordan also announced that he would be wearing #94, Charles Grant's old number.

Still no word on whether the Browns will make a move on Saints safety Usama Young after it was reported and confirmed that Cleveland was interested.

Jermon Bushrod is also reportedly drawing some serious interest from the Chicago Bears. If the Saints don't pay the man, he could be a gone pecan. Not something I really comfortable seeing happen.

Most recently, the Seattle Seahawks are showing interest with defensive end Jimmy Wilkerson and have scheduled a visit with him for this Friday. I'm sure the Saints don't have Wilkerson tops on their list of priorities. Look for him to leave if he gets a decent offer.

The Saints officially announced their 20-player undrafted free agent class before adding kicker Jake Rogers, making a total of twenty-one. We reported everyone correctly with the exception of missing tight end Harry Flaherty from Princeton.

With a total of 70 players currently under contract plus their six draft picks, the Saints have 14 roster spots left to fill.

That is all for now. This will serve as our evening open thread.
