There was news leaking that the Bears were in pursuit of Jermon Bushrod. If that was true, it might have made Loomis nervous because the Saints have now signed Bushrod to a two year deal. The news comes via Schefter:
Saints reached agreement with OT Jermon Bushrod on a two-year deal.
This is great! No matter what you think of Bushrod, having him on the roster at least gives the Saints more options at tackle, where they are currently pretty thin at talent. And if they like Charles Brown, but don't think he's ready to start, it gives the Saints another year or two before he actually has to jump in and start protecting Drew Brees' blind side.
As soon as more details emerge about the contract, I'll update this post to let you guys know.
UPDATE [7/28/11 6:25 CDT] More detail have emerged about Bushrod's contract. Jeff Duncan:
Hearing Jermon Bushrod received a two-year, $9.8-million deal from the #Saints. Signing bonus was $3.5 million.
That's not bad considering there was word the Bears wanted to give him 6 million a year.
