Apparently the Saints have signed center Cecil Netwon, formerly of the Jaguars and most recently of the UFL. Newton is also well known for being Cam Newton's brother.
Pro Football Talk is the only news outlet reporting this so far.
With the UFL circling the drain, it appears that the league has given its players the ability to abandon their contracts.
That's the obvious implication of the news that center Cecil Newton, older brother of Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, has signed with the Saints.
Since no other media outlets have confirmed the news yet, I'm not sure whether it's true. If true, however, it could mean bad things for veteran starter Jonathan Goodwin, who still has yet to get re-signed by the Saints.
UPDATE [08/01/11 8:02 PM CDT ]: WWL-TV confirms the signing of Newton by the Saints. So welcome aboard, Cecil!
