Saints Training Camp: Day Twelve Recap

Good evening, ladies and germs, it is your ole pal HansDat, pinch-hitting for the talented and devoted (but busy) Jon Banks (Fun fact - Jon Banks is a LB for the Buffalo Bills - click on his name and you'll see). I promise, no butt jokes tonight. And here's hoping I don't pop out to second.

Tonight's practice has ended, and since that absolute GENIUS, Sir Dave was kind enough to post that cool Tweeter Window of Saints practice tweets (just scroll down or click on that hyperlink to see them), I'm going to skip all that balderdash below and just send you on to the links, transcripts, and videos du jour, or au jus, or whatever, that I found for you.

Just make the jump already, will ya?

Transcripts

Following a two and a half hour practice, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton met with the media. He discussed the addition of free agent tackle Jordan Black as well as other matters.  (neworleanssaints.com)

Opening Statement: Real quick, let me go through a couple of transactions. We signed Jordan Black, number 79, and today we waived Danny Clark. The following players are still on failed physical list: Chris Ivory, Tracy Porter, Greg Romeus. Guys that did not practice today: Ezra Butler with a hamstring, Marques Colston knee, Jarred Fayson ankle, Adrian Arrington ankle, Ramon Humber right quad, Stinchcomb knee, Roger Allen knee, Alex Barron knee. We installed two minute.

Can you talk about the signing of Black? One of the things that we are looking for, especially this early in camp, is depth at that offensive line position. We are trying to rest certain guys. We are giving Stinchcomb a couple of days here. It allows us the numbers we need.

Have you made any decisions yet on who will and will not play on Friday night? No, not yet. We will meet tonight on a lot of that.

What have you seen in Zach Strief? He's been dependable. He has played left tackle for us in games. He's played right tackle for us. He is a guy that does a lot for us, not just at the left tackle position but playing in the tight end personnel groups, the heavy groups also, and some special teams. He is versatile and we think he's got a chance to compete at right tackle for a position.

Can you talk about DeAndre McDaniel? He is getting work. Like with a lot of these young guys, there is a lot going on. He is having to pick it up. These snaps that he gets, especially on special teams, in the preseason will be important for him.

What do you think of the fullbacks behind Korey Hall? I think Jed is doing a real good job. He and Korey both are competing. They are both physical and know what to do. Hurt is still working on picking up all the nuances of playing offense and the new playbook. I would say that Korey and Jed have a pretty good battle going on there.

Is Colston's knee alright? Yeah. We just backed off. He and Stinchcomb both. Some of these guys that have had off-season surgeries, we are trying to be smart with. The swelling has gone down and we are being cautious with a month still to go.

Let it go for now. There will be plenty of times in the future that we’ll all be inebriated & it will be obvious in future threads. The ninja moderators do exist, and more comments may end up being deleted, but you gotta be true to your drunken self. In vino veritas (in wine there is truth).

I’ve been bashing Scott Shanle all day on different threads, but I have to give him some credit. He is a professional athlete who also happens to be considerably younger than I am, so I would have no doubt that he could catch me.

Once he caught up to me though, would be a different story. The boy simply has no stomach for violent confrontations, as evidenced on the football field.

We’re talking about a guy who gets his a** tossed on the field more than fresh meat at Angola (too much?).

I'm no big Shanle fan.

but he’s a starter on a real good NFL team, and that’s a lot more than any of us can ever be. BTW, I once criticized Joe Ferderspiel for being slow, and got chastised by CP for it (but who hasn’t been chastised by CP?).

I just had a neighbor two doors down knock on my door and scare the ish out of me. I have a dog and two cats so I went to the back door and greeted them with a “who the effe are you?” She told me that she needed a person of legal age to witness some papers for her. It’s 9:30 at night. What do you think I did?

by cscmember on Aug 10, 2011 9:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Let’s just say when the jolly guy cracking jokes left I walked back to her house and asked “what the effe did I just sign?” This is a true story. She told me I was just witnessing that she was there. This made no sense to me because I didn’t know where there was. When I asked her “what are we signing?” The b*** blushed and said that’s personal. WHAT DID I JUST SIGN? Did I just adopt her 2 year old daughter?

I'm totally confused

Right now, I feel like Johnny when he asked Dan to explain the diagram that George Hearst sent to Swearengen. This was explained to him while they were carrying the bodies of two men they had just murdered out the back door of the Gem.

My only question is why did you sign anything?

That might explain it. I use IE. Had FireFox, but something wierd happened and got rid of it, Long story short, I lost everything on a new computer due to bad instructions on how to fix my touchpad from microsoft, and once I got all my files back on, i never bothered to install firefox again because I didn’t see much difference.

I love that shirt. Makes me feel like wearing cut off jean shorts and walking around with aviator glasses and a pop top beer and a trucker hat. Im a put it on and strut.

c’mon, I thought that was funny. Seriously though, I’ve got an awesome Saints Baseball style jersey they sold in that mall next to the dome that was open before Katrina and may be open again now in some capacity? I got the home one and wanted desperately to get the away colored one but they discontinue really cool stuff. I wish hats and shirts never got discontinued, except for those funky ones in the 90’s, you know, with the dorito looking shark bite graphics.

not that this is relevant

but isn’t it interesting that there are 2 rookies in the NFL- one named Cameron Jordan and the other named Jordan Cameron? If we had the Browns on the schedule (which we don’t), the Browns TE could wind up going head up against the Saints rookie DE !
