RE: A Little QB Controversy

RE A Little QB Controversy (I'm reposting my (now buried) comments to the original post authored by me on 15 Aug. Refer to the original post dated 15 Aug at 1028 pm.) I take you ladies comments in stride…for me, its not about getting emotional but dealing with the facts as they are presented and making a judgement call, however controversial it may be. Emotional outbursts of name calling is for ladies and kids. I’m trying to have sensible dialogue regarding Drew Brees lack of Superbowl potential performance over the last several months. Now back to the issue: There is nothing I’ve said that doesn’t have merit except for the last statement regarding putting my backup in after game 5. That is a judgement call, and I’ve already acknowledged the fact that a football pundit would probably not do that. Preseason football, I realize is much a do about nothing. However, there are aspects of the game that can be extrapolated into regular season play as far as predicting outcomes and making plans are concerned (which is the main reason for the preseason in the first place). The point I’m making here is that: If the philosophy for the team is that EVERYONE is competing for their position – that SHOULD include the QB regardless of his elite status (under a now outdated QB rating system). Drew Brees interception throwing during regular season and his lackluster preseason play (notwithstanding the vanilla play calling) warrants AT THE VERY LEAST – scrutiny (to be fair). I understand the Brees-Meachem connection timing was a bit off. I saw that and did not want to elongate this post by bringing in needless observations to make my point. I also saw on two occasions (if memory serves me) that Drew threw two passes while falling down that could have well been interceptions against the opposing team’s 1st Team defense. If that were Chase Daniel or Sean Canfield, Vince Young, Dante Culpepper or even the great Brett Favre, this would be called into question. Bottom line, Drew is holding the ball waaayyy to long and making some ill-advised decisions on the field as best as I can see it. That’s all I’m saying. GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!! Black and Gold Superbowl!!!!!! TWO DAT!!!

Well Said Jimbo

A “True Fan” does not diss his team’s true leader that has been not only the best elite QB in the league, but the best QB ever in the Saints Franchise history that has taken us to two NFCCG’s and one Superbowl Ring. He has yet to realize that.

Brees may have thrown a ton of interceptions last season. Why? Let;‘s see. No running game and poor O’line protection. As great as he is, he can’t do it all by himself. It takes a team effort.

The playoff game for instance. Our RB’s and tight ends were hurt. Malcolm Jenkins was hurt. Julius Jones fumbled on our own 25 yd line, Reggie Bush dropped an easy TD pass. Brees played his heart and soul that game, as he has every game and every season. He’s a leader and a winner!

And yet our famous poster wants to complain about one pre-season game with 4 passes where most plays were practicing running plays?

He’s not a true fan, just a troll in my book.

That's interesting. You know what makes me sad? YOU DO!!! Maybe we should chug on over to mambypandyland...or maybe we can find some self confidence for you YA JACKWAGON!!!!!!

No… CP dosn’t create new FanPosts. He stays in the thread and fights it out… even if he has to repeat himself several times and find very “creative” ways to support his argument.

And, CP knows how to use a freakin’ carriage return every once in a while. ;-)

Don’t forget this guy also holds the NFL single season record for completion percentage.

He plays 6 downs in a preseason game, drops back to throw four times, completes 1 pass and we should get rid of him, bench him, dispose of him. The same guy, that during a Superbowl victory, tied Tom Brady for the Super Bowl record of 32 completions. By the way, in case you were wondering, during that little Super Bowl game, Brees was 32/39 – 2 TD’s – 0 INT’s and was 82% complete. Not bad I guess.

39-60 – 404 Yards – 2 TD’s – 0 INT’s

He was only 65% complete, but after the first half quarter, he only had one running back left and everybody knew they could drop back and play the pass more effectively.

“only 65%”… There are at least 10 teams that would kill sit around and do nothing when they had the chance to have a guy that can throw 65% completions.

I’m looking at you San Fran, Miami, Seattle, and others.

Regardless of that statement. Even you can admit that the fault behind our loss to Seattle, as far as blame to Brees is concerned, was very minimal at best. I seem to remember you quite clearly lamenting reliable running back play in the ball game when we failed to convert some goal line opportunities.

No, actually I blame neither for that particular loss. I thought Julius Jones played about as well as can be expected throughout. The defense lost the game. 36 points is enough to win, or it should be.

Payton kept the offense relatively balanced in that game, despite the lack of running backs. Had he taken the same approach all year, odds are they wouldn’t have been playing the game in Seattle.

My Mom is a heavy woman, one day when we i was about 14, she was taking my brother and I to the dentist and my cousin rode along. We were all teenage boys telling jokes, nothing bad since Mom is right there, when out of no where he started to tell a “momma joke”. He got out the words “Ya momma’s so fat” before he realized what he said and then apologies began flowing. He was almost in tears, and my Mom was laughing at him. That was the last time I ever heard him say a"Momma Joke". He was extremely embarrassed by it. We all still laugh about it today, but my Mom still picks on him about it. 20 years later Mom still asks him if he has heard any good “Momma jokes” lately, and 20 years later he still blushes when she does.
