Saints Training Camp: Oxnard Day Two
Another day of practice in Oxnard for the black & gold. The Saints are really doing a lot better in the cooler climates of California compared to the harsh climates of Metairie. Even Payton said the Saints might be getting a full 25% more done. That's amazing! I can't even get 10% more done when I wake up earlier. The players must be really motivated to get more done.
Today, we have a lot of tweets, but definitely a lot of links and videos for you twitter haters out there (I'm looking at you cscmember). Not much news to report outside of Mark Ingram and Carl Nicks missing practice. Nicks looked fine and didn't have a limp, while Ingram wasn't on the scene at all.
Some news that may please the Pierre Thomas lovers, he's getting some looks during camp. The media covering Training Camp have said Pierre has been running hard and really running with a purpose out there. He's trying to show the team he was worth that contract he signed, and really trying to keep his starter position against Mark Ingram. This is good news for Saints fans.
So make the jump to see what else happened in camp today!

I can guarantee they are having better practices without the heat and humidity
I don’t even like going outside in the Louisiana heat anymore. Run from it like a vampire and have to game plan for yard work like preparing to face the wildcat offense.
You must lose everything in order to gain anything.-Tyler Durden
Feel ya
Game plan on yard work is a perfect word, 7pm til dusk, still very warm, and I’m only keeping up appearances in the front yard, watering the plants in the back yard garden but the grass, screw it , it’s like walking on Lays Potato Chips. Its so Hot in Texas I don’t even see homeless people walking around.

I just got my letter from the water utility, putting my area on manadatory water rations.
We can only water our grass two days a week now. It is hotter than hot in College Station these days. I wake up early on Saturday mornings to get the yard work done. If I can get it done by 12 noon then it is not a problem, but between 2:00 to 5:00 you are going to burst into flames.
Water Rationing in Cy-Fair for a cpl months now
no clouds so its nothing but the sun, feels like flames on your arms, and the humidity is worse than June, July. Uggh hopefully a 10 degree break is around corner.

Just saw Heath Evans on NFLNetwork as "the latest analyst to our crew"...
on Oxnard, reporting* on the Saints.
*I use the term “reporting” loosely. He just said they were about to do “Red Zone” drills. And that was it.

I hope they did....
I really hope they had a good practice. Raiders have a decent blitzing D and an ok running game. Should be interesting to see the guys fighting for a spot on the team come up especially on the D Line. So far, the new guy J Patrick is the only one shining consistently. Brees……knows what he has to do.
Too bad Joe Horn had to screw with Willie Roaf's wife(rumor?), so he could retire as a
Saint. Hopefully he enters the Hall of Fame as a Saint and not a Kansas City Chief. He has been the best NFL player that came out La. Tech., beside maybe Bradshaw. Go Bulldogs. WAC all the way.
Players don’t actually enter the NFL Hall of Fame as a member of a team like they do for the Baseball Hall of Fame, so Roaf won’t enter the Hall of Fame as a Saint or Chief, he’ll just enter as Willie Roaf.

You could have warned me that my fly was down. I went straight to the grocery on my way home from work today. I get home, put some things in the fridge and when I look down the nest is open and my bird was trying to escape. No wonder that lady kept following me around the store.

I heard something really interesting just now on ESPN Radio
Troy Polamalu is not going to be offered a contract and will be a free agent next march. I thought about the possibility but then I remembered what we just paid Harper. I mean I like Harper at SS but the thought of Troy and Jenkins back there is just….Wow….one could only dream….

I guess they want to let him test the market first to see what others are going to
offer him. I also think they just tied up a lot of money in some of their other defensive players.

The Steelers almost never give a third contract to any player, no matter how great. They believe in drafting young, developing them, paying them big money on a second contract to keep them for 4 to 6 more years, then letting them chase their last huge paycheck elsewhere.
It has some disadvantages, of course, in that they lose some veteran presence, and sometimes they let somebody go before they truly hit their “retirement decline”. But it also saves them from having to cut a beloved player who can’t cut the mustard anymore.
It seems to work OK for them. I’d say 80+% of that is Dick LeBeau, tho. I may hate the Stoolers with a passion but they’ve got a very good coaching staff, and I’m not going to pretend they don’t.
Agreed Sarah.
He is very valuable to the team with his running skills and regardless of what some may think, he also has damn good hands that could catch a ball no matter what the distance may be.
PT getting looks
Is that a joke? He’s the starter. Sure Ingram will get some time, but this is PT’s job to lose. And I’m not even a PT supporter.

Ugh. I thought the question was about the Saints. The Bucs were 10-6. Sorry about that.
