Saints Roster Cuts Begin, Waive DeAndre McDaniel and Jarred Fayson
The New Orleans Saints have already begun making roster cuts today and they've started with undrafted free agents S DeAndre McDaniel and WR Jarred Fayson. McDaniel tweets the news via his Twitter account:
Saints waived me today! Don't feel sorry for me! God has a plan. Find a new home soon!!
But don't worry, he's not mad because the team never even gave him a chance to crack the lineup:
I would be mad if I had a chance and failed, but I wasn't even getting the chance! So I know God has a plan
Fayson also told his Twitter followers the news of his release:
Just got waived by the saints. Extremely thankful for the opportunity they gave me. Back to FLA to rehab my knee.
Thanks to the #WhoDat nation for the support throughout training camp.
McDaniel was probably the most highly touted rookie among this years undrafted free agent class so this will probably come as disappointing news to those Saints fans who thought he might actually contribute to the team. Apparently, Fayson had knee issues. That most certainly didn't help his chances.
We will keep things updated here on Canal Street Chronicles as best we can today.

I was shocked that McDaniel didn’t really get a chance myself, but maybe he was just over-hyped. Who knows?

“over-hyped” for an un-drafted rookie – for sure.
But, he was an un-drafted rookie, none the less.

I thought that with the pathetic play of the back ups at safety that he (DMac) would have had a shot…but gotta let the coaches do their job.

Practice vs Game Stats
I guess with the shortened time coaches had to really evaluate players, these guys were expendable. Maybe low football IQ or whatever…. You hate to see guys cut who could have contributed but since we haven’t seen anything from these guys, oh well…. Never seen a practice film/session but this goes to show you, in order to make it in NFL you have to practice like you REALLY want to make the team i.e Johnny Patrick. The days leading up to Sept 8 will be interesting to say the least. Now guys should be flying around/to the ball now. Its REALLY going to sting the team and Fans when some of the other guys who get cut contribute but not enough to stay on the team.
Cuts so far
1) DeAndre McDaniel, Safety. Cut per his own twitter account.
2) Jarred Fayson, WR. Per his twitter account.
3) John “Jay” Chiles, WR. Per WWLTVSPORTS twitter.

Saints are supposingly close to signing John Kasay from Carolina. He beat us a couple of times with game winning fgs. I’m cool with that because Hartley……. can’t beat up too much on him because his fg took us to the SB but LORD knows some of his missed fgs the following season made Fans’ hearts skip a beat.

True but take into account that the guy is naturally a RE
but with Will there he had to move to the left. Probably never got acclimated to the difference in position. I understand from the business stand point why he was released but I like him. Good guy all around. His wife is a hoot on twitter too. Never seen a Saint wife tweet as much and be into the games as much either.

This Alex Brown thing is perplexing. It gives me hope for our up-and-comers, but who exactly has shined at DE thus far(who didn’t star in such films as "Wild Wild West)? And does this mean that Mohammed Ali is definitely not suspended? Or do we have two starters at DE that I don’t even know about?
We did get runned all over the past two weeks, and that was Brown’s “strong suit”, so maybe he’s just not part of the solution anymore. Still, didn’t see that coming.

let's hope the Brown waiving
means the Saints have gotten some word of some sort that Will Smith will not be suspended for the first 2 games, and maybe not at all. THIN at DE if not.

I'm surprised by Brown as
with Stinchcomb, that they go from starter to street, as opposed to going from starter to quality backup. Brown was second on the depth chart going into camp, plays with the 1st stringers all camp and 3 games of preseason, and now he’s worse than the last? I guess it’s somewhat about money; he’s making 3million, so not breaking the bank, but too expensive for a backup?
I think he'll get picked up quickly
he was naturally a RE so I think some teams will be interested in a vet starter or quality backup at the RE position. Wish him all the best.

I’m with ya on this one. What is that supposed to mean. Who is doing the talking? Who is “Man?” What does he mean by “BEASTING?” What “NEW” position? I think Jeff is talking. I think Brown is the man. I think LDE is the new position. If Brown was such a beast at LDE than why would the Saints let him go? And if he was such a beast at the LDE position why change him back to RDE? That’s a lot of questions.

More Cuts to come.
I have Prioleau and Scott Shanle being the next big names cut. If you see Greg Williams adopted son Shanle playing on Thursday, it means that they are seeing if Shanle can still takle at the line of scrimmage. It dosn’t count when you’re a first teamer and you can’t make a tackle until they are 5-10 yards down the field. Shanle will make a good sports reporter.
No way
Tenacious G and Prioleau are connected at the hip. He really likes Shanle too. Those two will make the final 53. Stu can add me to the Accountability Index if he doesn’t agree.

The only shock to me was Alex Brown. I guess that pic on Yahoo’s sports page didn’t help Brown’s at all when Lynch is running thru Tracy Porter and Brown is in the background just looking. THE REAL HEARTBREAKING CUTS WILL HAPPEN FRIDAY MORNING. Sigh…………………. Since all had a chance to see a period of time when checks don’t come(lockout), I expect that game will be a headhunter extravaganza!
Am I misguided in my thinking?
When I look around the NFL and evaluate each team’s top pass rusher, it seems like we are way way down the list in the comparison. We have no one of the caliber of Dwight Freeny or Jon Abraham or Julius Pepper, Justin Tuck, Brian Orakpo, Charles Johnson, Jared Allen etc. I guess I am mostly pointing the finger at Will Smith, but I don’t even see him on a par with Trent Cole and on that team they (Eagles) have Jason Babin working as a tandem that I think are both better and the Giants have the tandem including Osi Umeniyora that are both better pass rushers than Smith or anyone we have. Am I underappreciating Smith? I am not even going from a # of sacks point of view either- it just seems we have pass rushers who have a tough time putting consistent pressure on a qb, they have no real great moves, and they don’t scare anyone. It’s hard to have a great pass rush without at least one great pass rusher.
