I debated over whether or not to take last week's Saints game against the Packers into consideration when giving out this week's game ball, in which case I might have to award it to Devery Henderson. He's put up some pretty gaudy numbers these first two games.
But that would be bending the rules a bit and besides, these things always goes to the guys making flashy plays and scoring touchdowns. I'm sure Devery will have plenty of chances to earn himself one of our gameballs this season if he continues playing at this level.
So I'm giving our gameball to Saints safety Roman Harper for his impressive defensive performance against the Chicago Bears this past Sunday. It was the defense that won the game for the Saints this week, as voted by you guys, and Harper was a big part of that effort.
Harper led the team with seven tackles, sacked Jay Cutler twice and forced a fumble, all of which earned him the honor of the NFC's Defensive Player of the Week. Not bad for the guy who caught a lot of flack after his performance in the Saints playoff loss to the Seahawks last season and who some didn't want to see on this team again. That's okay, though, because as Gregg Williams pointed out, "...you guys don't know much about ball."
Fact is, Harper's a two-time Pro Bowler who just got himself a fat new four-year contract from his employers, people that do know a little something about ball. So get used to him because Rome-E-Rome's gonna be here a while. And that's just fine by me.
What do you think?
