One Last Prediction of the Saints 53-Man Roster and Final Cuts
The Saints got an early start to trimming their roster last night after eliminating 17 spots plus learning of Will Smith's suspension, which moves him onto the reserve/suspended list. By my calculations, that leaves nine spots left to free up by 5pm today to get down to the league mandated 53-man limit.
Based on those moves, I'm taking one last crack at listing who I think will get cut, waived or placed on injured reserve today, followed by my final 53-man roster prediction and then a recap of the moves the Saints made yesterday.
Make the jump!
Cut/Waived
C - Cecil Newton
CB - Terrail Lambert
DT - Swanson Miller

bold statement
After all Payton’s late-week bluster about keeping Hartley on the roster, saying that he’ll be back sooner rather than later and that the “Hartley’s out 8-10 weeks” report is inaccurate…you still have him going on the IR. I like it. (I’m actually kind of close to saying “cut that chump” outright, even though part of me still really wants to give him a chance and have him kick here for the next 10 years…I’m disturbed by the fact that he can’t ever seem to give us a full season.)
WIN NOW
WINGRAMANIA!!!!
fat-p ain't goin to no IR..
tell you dat rite now..
& why hang on to c. ingram till the end.. to cut him now? still too many LBs..
i totally desagree w/dave’s DTs depth chart..
besides dave’s list, don’t really understand so little depth at tackle.. unless they feel de la puente can fill in there..

Matt Tennant will get some snaps in as well, he will fill an O-Line Utility role of sorts

Good morning, Chronic!
A few questions/ observations concerning your roster, Dave:
Payton has not kept two fullbacks in the past; are you keeping two based on last year’s playoff debacle?
Is Jeff Charleston now a starting DE?
What happened to Joe Morgan? He really looked like he was giving Arrington a run for his money.
Who are we going to cut to sign Darren Sharper?
Morgan is on IR
I think he’s keeping both FBs because Payton likes both of them very much.
Now that we have a 2011 season let's win the Superbowl!

the 2 FBs has been the buzz.. nez..
& since they wiped out the TE population to 2.. it figures that’s the way they’ll go..
morgan was put in IR.. next year..
little too late for sharper, maybe..?
So yuo gave up on Hartley Dave...??
I would tend to agree but it looks they will be keeping two kickers for the time being
Bring the metal....
wuzzup, crash.. we can afford fat-p..
if we cut herring (useless 4 useless)..

It (s)aint over till the fat lady sings.
Hi guys and gals,
This roster can and will be adjusted . I’m sure the Saints are looking at other cuts from other teams to add depth to our team. (safety, tight end, tackle, linebackers, kicker, etc.)
7 linebackers?
I say Dunbar gets the axe and Saints pick up either D lineman or safety..although personally I would like to say bye bye to no show Herring
"I have had a perfectly wonderful evening, but this wasn't it." Groucho Marx
Dunbar will stay...
…he’s a solid backup at the Mike spot, no one else is close. I think Herring or C. Ingram may be on the bubble from the LB corps, they’ll keep the rookies because of the upside physically for both of them.

shanle is the last scrub left
We got rid of Reis and Humphreys… Shanle has to go… We need to get rid of this non tackling… No blitzing… I cant get off a block scrub…

there you go
now, I’m still on CSC when I’m finished with the article.. instead of having to hit the BACK arrow and the page reloading… which either resets all of the comments you marked read (with the Z key) or it makes all comments read (so the Z key doesn’t work and you miss new comments)

LB Nate Bussey has been waived by the #Saints, according to a source. Seems like a shoo in for practice squad in NOLA.

Bring back Aaron Brooks! He's the only one who can save us from the evil that is Drew Brees!!
Well now that we have two reporters to confirm this, Bussey has clearly been put on IR.
Mike Triplett
Like @CBSSportsNFLNO, I also am hearing that #Saints rookie LB Nate Bussey has been released and likely will return to team’s practice squad

a couple of thoughts-
—sign Hargrove if/when he gets released evenif it’s only for 2 games
- tough call on Clint Ingram probably one of the best of OUR LBs skillwise (below Vilma obviously) but no valye if not healthy
— 2 FBs? That could be good – might mean good run/pass balance – huh CP? I like that….
Still would like 3 TEs but not sure re: Michael Higgins..look around …Cornelius Ingram? Coulld be too many Ingrams!!!
Keep Arrington
Consider Lance Briggs – get him on the cheap or don’t get him
Find a backup safety.. that’s a challenge- if not sign Sharper- you can always cut him- cmon do you really think Leigh Torrence is a better alternative at backup safety tp D# ?? I know he can play CB also, but …cmon….
