The end of the Asylum

With Gregg Williams gone, the defense will likely turn into a "traditional style" defense instead of a blitzing team. This likely will bring upon a change within players as they might not be as helpful due to weakness in coverage. In my preference, I would like Jack del Rio to take over as the DC but Spagnuolo would seem like a good fit too. What do y'all think? And which free agents would you like to see return to the team?

Jack Del Rio is a pretty terrible choice for DC. Even less chemistry between him and PayLoo than with Gregg Williams, if that’s possible. He won’t accept responsibility. He won’t stand up for his subordinates. He’s been a head coach for so long that his giant ego (have you seen the leather sport coats?) won’t allow him to accept a lesser role, at least at this time. He’ll make $5M next year on his Jacksonville contract doing nothing, why should he go back to work? That’s not the kind of guy I would hire and I doubt that it’s Mickey’s kind either.

someone told me

they heard on WWL that del Rio bought a house in Nola this week. not sure if that’s true but you don’t think he’d be good for our linebackers? I would take spags or nolan over him, but I’m trying to see the positives in all options…

Del Rio was a good defensive coordinator, a long time ago.

Spagnuolo is still my choice. Nolan is under contract to Miami and only might depart, depending on the whim of the new head coach. Dean Pees with Baltimore is another ex-coordinator who might want another shot. The consensus at PatsPulpit can be summed up as “You could do worse … and better.”
