What Up With Dat?: Submit Your Questions

WhatUpwithDat3

Now that the offseason is upon us, we've got plenty of time for our "What Up With Dat" mailbag series, where you guys submit questions and I answer them. Since the games on Championship Sunday will be too painful to watch, now's as good a time as any to start with our first one.

So if you've got a burning question you've been dying to know my answer to, send an email to blogandgold@yahoo.com, send me a tweet @csctweet, post on our wall at Canal Street Chronicles Facebook page or just ask me in the comment section below. They can be about the Saints, the NFL, the blog or even personal. Don't forget to leave your first name and last initial so we can give you credit for your question if we wind up using it. I will round up the best questions and answer them in a timely fashion in a second follow-up post.

Why is there so much secrecy

About the draft pick trade with Miami on the Bush deal. Both teams season is over. I just don’t see the need for the secrecy.

by canu2u on Jan 19, 2012 11:11 AM CST reply actions

You beat m,e to that question

I was wondering if it has ever been disclosed what we got

by mississippisaintsfan on Jan 19, 2012 11:58 AM CST up reply actions

yeah no doubt I just asked this on a previous thread, hadn’t gotten to this one yet. There are no details for the trade yet but i was looking at the incentives we got from Miami and seems like we got the shaft, undisclosed pick and Jonathon Amaya. I understand sproles is the man but we didn’t get him in the trade. Seems like the saints wanted to get rid of bush asap and took this deal. The other thing I was thinking was, as someone mentioned in the D-coor thread, the saints inability to judge defensive talent. Did they think Amaya was going to bolster our Defensive secondary? That has yet to be seen.

well.. you didn't think he was going to unseat..

king-$h!t hapro, did you..? who was GW favorite player.. he contributed in special teams..
maybe he gets a fair preseason evaluation with the next DC..
if i had to guess the bush draft pick is next to nothing.. i heard the times picayune guys say that the 1000 yard season for regg had no impact (unlike the ricky williams pick)
4th round at best..

by the 9th plague on Jan 19, 2012 12:45 PM CST up reply actions

could certainly be 4th round. I was think ing 3rd just for him getting 1434 APY and 7 total tds…honestly not bad production at all.

by WestBank on Jan 19, 2012 12:50 PM CST up reply actions

I mean really Amaya was UFA when Miami picked him up and Reggie was the 2nd pick in the first round. What up with Dat?

So I’ll form my question a bit more clearly. What is the deal with the saints trading a proven player/veteran who was integral in our superbowl season, for an UFA, on a practice squad, and an undisclosed pick – most likely 3rd rounder due to Reggies great season, 1084 6 TD rushing and 283 1 td receiving? Does that make sense to anyone else? Couldn’t we have done better?

in hindsight yes. but who knew injury prone reggie would have a 1000 yrd rushing season.

by HRP-SAINT on Jan 19, 2012 1:05 PM CST up reply actions

yeah he does have a proneness to injury bug.

Considering his 150 yard rushing season in 2010

And the fact that the Saints were on the hook for !2 mil, I figure a hot dog and a coke would have been fair compensation…or at least a large pizza

by canu2u on Jan 19, 2012 1:18 PM CST up reply actions

you’re right, I am certainly over-estimating his worth. Just took another gander at his career stats and getting a large pizza would have been good enough for sure.

Based on how much everyone swore he was worth as a decoy, they should have gotten three first rounders.

What drink did you use to drown your sorrows on Saturday night?

I used Kona Brown ale. That’s some delicious suds!

Not just Dave’s. All we can do at this point is drink to forget how this season came to an inglorious end.

What are...

the changes/upgrades planned for the Super Dome prior to the super bowl next year?

by snowboard_kat on Jan 19, 2012 11:45 AM CST reply actions

I'll play

Question 1: Knowing what you know now, what do you view as the bigger need for the upcoming year. A monster pass rusher, a be-all end-all LB, or a ballhawk in the secondary?

My second question is the following:

Scenario: A man, slight of stature and build, is walking through a cafeteria/food court area. He stops at a table, picks up TWO pieces of pie from a tray, and pushes those TWO pieces of pie into a weak scrawny armed mans doudy face. The slight man stares down at the other with a look of complete disgust on his face before calmly walking away, whistling a tune.

Question: What kind of pie did Matt Ryan have on his tray before it was pushed into his face?

Cory G. (see Hans, I read the directions)

Paul H. – Assuming you can identify a Draft Pick as “DP” and Free Agent as “FA”, nominate the starting roster on offense and defense for the 2012 season. On defense, assume a 4-3 defense. On offense, assume a set including a FB, RB, TE and 2 x WR.

Last year you were asked would you rather the Saints have a dominant football team and never win another Super Bowl or whether you would take one more Super Bowl win and have the Saints be in perpetual mediocrity. You said that you would rather have the Saints be dominant and never have another Super Bowl win. After the last two disappointing playoff losses, has your opinion changed on this?
