Matt Flynn punks Detroit

Former LSU national championship qb Matt Flynn punked the Detroit Lions by having an historic day in Green Bay. Matt threw for 486 yards and 6 tds (both All-Time Green Bay records) against a Lions team desperately trying to avoid visiting the red-hot Saints in the MB Superdome in the first round of the playoffs. NO SOUP FOR YOU! At the news the Packers were going to rest Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews, Charles Woodson and others, the Lions sighed in relief as playing the Saints was not Plan A. Stafford threw for 520 yards, 5 tds and put up 41 points to build a 3pt lead with 2:39 to play in 20 mph winds. As LSU fans are well aware of, the situation was right in Matt's wheelhouse. Matt marched the Pack down, including a 40 yd pass to James Jones on 3rd & 4. Then punked the Lions with a 4 yard td chunk to Jermichael Finley. Hope the Lions, at least, enjoy Bourbon Street.

Now thats just not right

Because we all know it’s all about Rodgers
How could Flynn possible do what he did
Unless of course it’s the system
But that cant be right because we have been hearing all year how it’s rodgers
Could the talking heads possible be wrong

How do we know Chase Daniel wouldn’t have done that well against the Lions?

This would an angle one might expect to see coming from the fan of a team that passes LESS often than the Packers do, not MORE often. If any one QB in the league has a scheme advantage, it’s Brees. And there’s nothing wrong with that. QBs are paid to carry out the schemes to which they’re assigned. I mean, it’s not like Rodgers couldn’t run Payton’s scheme. He simply doesn’t because the Packers value a more balanced attack. If Brees was in the Packers system, his numbers would be extremely similar to Rodgers’s and vice versa. 2009’s stats (with a lower pass-to-run ratio) basically attest to that.

Could it also be...

…that the Lions pass defense simply sucks so much that second stringers could put up huge numbers??

.

by Anthony_JK on Jan 2, 2012 8:49 AM CST reply actions

It’s probably part of both.

It's actually more of the following.

The Lions this season played five games against playoff teams from the NFC. They lost all five of those games, including a 31-17 Saints win over Detroit in the Superdome.

It’s all the above. I personally think that Alex Smith may be putting up the same numbers had he went to GB and Rodgers would be a manager in SF BUT…people said that about Montana after Steve Young came in and did work until Montana went to Kansas City and virtually put the city on his back and took them to the playoffs.

Having said that. I think Rodgers is just really good and Detroits pass D is suspect.

I think

The reason Rodgers is successful in GB is because of the people around him, but I do think he is a hell of a QB. His INT numbers can attest to that. I feel like if he were in SF, he would have put up better numbers than Smith, and if Smith were in GB, he would have been successful, but not MVP material.

Also, the Lions Pass D is suspect

Also, the Lions Pass D is suspect

This is accurate. Chris Harris and Alphonso Smith are not exactly our ‘A’-Team. Even so, 480 yds and 6 tds…hats off to Flynn

It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

The awesome part about the Lions playing the Saints is I get to trash talk my Father in law. who is a native Detroit resident and Lions fan. However even better is we both get to trash talk a mutual friend who is a Cowboys fan. Life is good right now.

I keep thinking of the word 'magical,' " he said. "When you think about the relationship between the Saints and the Gulf Coast and the city of New Orleans, it was more than just a football game and more than just a football team. The hopes, the dreams and the struggles of that community were all reflected in that football team. It was a great night for the people in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region-Roger Goodell

Either my computer really sucks, or Dallas Stadium has been banned from family time.
