well...

TOP can mean alot of different things. As TOP correlates to how long the offense uses the ball, how long the defense is on the field, how short/long drives are, field position etc etc…

A team must look at TOP and use it wisely. You don’t want your defense on the field too long, nor do you want them riding the bench and not staying fresh.

A team has to make the most out of the TOP and play it to their strength. For instance if it was a run first team vs a pass first team, the run first team would try to control the clock to keep the ball out of the hands of the QB of the pass first team and not let them get into a rhythm. Cause we all now passing is the better way to score in a quicker manner.
