Is Gregg Williams leaving?
I can't really vouch for the accuracy of this report, because it originates with Adam Schefter of ESPN...and, of course, Schefter's blog is behind a paywall (because he's so often right?).
But ProFootballWeekly is sourcing Schefter in its article, Report: Williams could follow Fisher.
This is the key sentence:
Fisher is considering taking either the Dolphins or Rams head coaching job, and it is believed Williams will follow him to either location.
"It is believed"? By whom? Based on what? There's little more than that single, bald assertion in this article...which is why I'm writing this as a FanPost instead of a FanShot: maybe it will get more views, and someone with an ESPN Insider Account can tell us if there is something more to the story than the idle speculation of one person.
In the meantime, said idle speculation opens up a very interesting question: should Gregg Williams go? Would the current defensive personnel do a better job in a different scheme...for instance, under Steve Spagnuolo? Because, all loyalty aside, the thought of this video game offense mated with a top 10 defense sends a tingle up my leg.

If Williams likes winning, he won't go anywhere.
I’m sure Fischer would need to give Williams’ son a job as well.

ha right-o
I guess we could find out…maybe he would like a rebuilding job after two SB rings with Saints. Who knows?
I’m unsure of how I feel about him leaving – maybe D would fall apart and we’d be all GG again, or maybe it would improve…one thing I feel is confidence in Pay-loo finding a good replacement if it does happen…
Having the ball is better than not having the ball. And if you punt,
not only does it mean you don't have the ball anymore—
it means you didn't score, which sucks.

I think I would miss his attitude on the sidelines
But I wouldn’t really miss the scheme…

It was being discussed yesterday on ESPN
That Jack Del Rio might be the guy to replace him as DC if he goes to the Rams.
Better to reign in hell, than serve in heaven-John Milton
Why Jack Del Rio?
Just because he’s available? Del Rio’s system is completely different from Williams’—the friction between the two was one reason Williams only stayed a single season in Jacksonville. Going from GW’s system to Del Rio’s in New Orleans would cause some major friction, I’d think.
"Sinn Féin, motherf*****s!"
I have no clue
I’m guessing just because he might be the biggest name DC available in the offseason.

With at least one more great CB (maybe Robinson or Patrick could become one in time, but they aren’t there yet), at least two major improvements out of the LB corp (again, MAYBE we can develop from the young guys like Martez and company, but they aren’t there yet), and some improvement/replacements on the DL as well, then same scheme or new scheme I think we’d have a shot to have a pretty good defense.
Well, that IS assuming, of course, that our no-catching morons learn to catch. That is kinda important too.
But I believe Spags could do it. He’s a great DC. Not sure, however, if that would really be a good idea or not because he would change the scheme at least a little and probably wouldn’t stay too long before he got another shot as a head coach.
Otherwise, I’d just hope we can find somebody who could be the next Spags/G-dub, because I don’t think any of the experienced people out there (like Del Rio) are anything but floaters in the bowl.

It looks like Fisher will take the Rams job
Gregg Williams has a good relationship with Fisher and is from Missouri. That’s what is behind all the speculation
Peyton, I can eat Oreos faster than you!!!!
IMO, Fisher goes to Miami.Rams have a lot of talent
But If Miami backs the Brinks’ truck up to GW’s door, does he take the $$$? but I’m inclined to say he stay in NO. Fisher’s a Defensive coach himself. Miami’s is a project on D, 1 good CB and 1 good DE Lake. And of course Reggie on offense.

I don’t think he will leave unless the contract from the saints isn’t on par with other offers. He is currently on a team that will be in the playoffs, perennially, and I don’t see him making a Fujita type exit, going to a terrible team to try and rebuild it. If he’s from Missouri, well that can be a factor but again, unless the offer is sour from the saints or he’s offered a HC position, I bet we have Greg next year.
There are many adjectives one could use to describe the saints D and Good isn’t one of them, but good enough is. And honestly I feel that because of how we draft and use our FA acquisitions, our D will never be a steel curtain, so in that sense, GW may be the best we can hope for. He won’t require any more than he’s got to deliver a good enough Defense, whereas other coaches will want and possibly need higher CAP players to provide similar production. We just need this Defense to learn better positioning in the pass game and get more turnovers in the current scheme and we have what we need. Aggressive on O and Aggressive on D, I don’t want to lose our ATTACK mentality with a conservative D coordinator.

Here's a thought
What about the available Raheem Morris?
Steve Spagnuolo please
If Gdub leaves, I’ll take Spagnuolo (honestly, he might be an upgrade).

Signs seem to be pointing to him going to Philly.

If he was smart
He’d wait to see if G-Dub leaves. I don’t think Philly gives him near the opportunity to showcase his talents that we do.

TOP IS GAWD!
Couldn't disagree more.
Philly has a solid front four with good secondary depth and youth at safety. If they could shore up the LB position I think they’d be a lot better off than we are defensive wise.

BUT
I think he has a better chance at winning a Super Bowl with us, than the Eagles. Gives him a quicker chance at getting a new HC job IMO

If he does leave, I say we go way outside the box...
Call Marty Schottenheimer and ask him if he wants to win a Super Bowl as a DC.
"I want to hand this trophy to the MVP of the Super Bowl -- and the MVP of the entire league.''
-- Saints coach Sean Payton, handing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Drew Brees after Super Bowl 44.
He's interviewing for HC of the Bucs.
Better shore up on our run defense on first, second, third and fourth downs.

I went to a few UFL games this past year and Marty was the head coach of the local team here in Virginia. He can still coach, just not offense. I think he’s still a good defensive coach, but he won’t be making it back to the NFL level being a strictly defensive mind. If someone hires him as a HC, they’ll regret it.

I hope GW stays.
First off, only 32 rushing yards Saturday. Even with the Detroit injuries, how sick was that? I still believe the D has played great considering the lock-out and the large number of changes in this year’s defense. Porter out to start the year. Rogers and Franklin as new DT’s. Vilma’s injuries. Rookie at left DE, Will Smith’s suspension. Wilson’s injury.
I think there is a real chance for this defense to take off next year under GW.
Not nearly as sick as only running the ball 6 times with your RBs all game.

Think he stole Payton's initial gameplan?

And this in the news...
Spagnuolo a great candidate to lead Falcons’ defense
The Falcons announced their first big change of the offseason the day after being dealt a 24-2 loss to the Giants in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
Head coach Mike Smith said at his press conference Monday that Brian VanGorder, Atlanta’s defensive coordinator for the past four seasons, was leaving the team to accept the same position at Auburn University.
. . .
Smith wouldn’t get into commenting on specific candidates to replace VanGorder on Monday, but he was asked about former Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio, whom Smith served under as Jacksonville’s defensive coordinator before being hired by the Falcons. Del Rio was fired in November. Another name being mentioned as a potential candidate is former Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo, who was considered one of the top D-coordinators in the game when the Rams hired him from the Giants before the 2009 season.
"Sinn Féin, motherf*****s!"
On the other hand, their defense wasn’t really all that bad this year. It seems like they constantly pick the wrong target to upgrade. They find out their defense was weak last year so they upgrade their offense. Then their defense actually does OK this year and their offense sucks so they upgrade the defensive coordinator.
I’m not complaining about this, mind you.
I think Williams would be crazy to leave. Especially for a team like the Rams. All he’d be doing is lowering his own brand by sticking his name on a team that’s going to lose for at least a few more years as it rebuilds.
Besides, I’m a big fan of the Williams defense.
New Orleans did have a top ten ranked defense, in 2010, 4th in yards/game and 7th in ppg allowed. The defense was actually ranked higher than the offense, and is really what got the Saints to the playoffs. Yes, they have had a setback this year. I contribute that to the lack of offseason, and GW’s complicated defense. Personally I don’t think GW will leave, but will use this to negotiate a higher contract.
