This prevents the cheapie overtime loss, with one team running the kickoff back to the 30, then gaining 30 yards or so and kicking a field goal to win.

That's why they changed the rule after we won the SB

Peter King and many other douchebag sportswriters with influence couldn’t stand it that they didn’t get the Favre vs. Manning Super Bowl they were drooling over. So, that rule had to change. Screw ’em! We still got our trophy.

For any who still don't understand why the Saints usually get so little national coverage from the media....

Peter King explains it here:

The ratings giants: Giants-Packers at 4:30 Eastern on Sunday and Tebow-Brady (under the watchful eye of McDaniels) in prime time Saturday.

I understand the business side of broadcasting and sports and all, but it still seems like a bum deal. Because of their perceived ratings estimates, we had to play last Saturday on a shorter week while the Giants, Broncos, and Steelers (teams they think are sure to draw huge ratings) got to play on Sunday. Now we play on a Saturday again, but at least we get a full week to prepare this time. I know it’s not really worth crying about, but I disagree with their ratings estimates. I think the Saints have a bigger fan market out there than they think. With our success in recent years, there’s Saints fans all over the globe and not just in the Southest U.S..
