Here are some things that jumped out at me when I perused the Saints current stats.
We have only gained 323 rushing yards in 4 games (which isn't really that terrible) but when you compare it to opponents, they have gained 747. Whoa, that's a big difference.
Our TOP is 26:55 ..opponents 35:12. I never got involved with that whole TOP debate, but that's not good.
We have scored 13 TDs in 4 games- not really that bad- but our opponents have scored 14. What is really striking is that we have only scored 2 rushing TDs; opponents have scored 6.
Hartley is 6/8 at FGs meaning the only two FGs he missed were game winners.
We've ran the ball only 75 times at a 4.3 YPC clip; opponents have rushed 154 times and gained 4.9 ypc. I would think if you are gaining 4.3 ypc, there should be more carries than about 17 per game especially if everyone else is running 37 times per game and only getting a half of a yard more on average.
Brees is completing only 57% of his passes; opponents 69% and some of them are very young players or less than top tier QBs.
We are gaining 5.8 yards per play (total plays= 275) ; our opponents are gaining 6.4 yards per play (291 total plays).
I just thought these stats in particular may be of interest. Our defense is weak, but, statistically at least, our offense is way off from being among the league leaders in the past years. If we could improve the TOP, I think it might help our defense a bit. Just my opinion.
