I really think Colston is gonna want a big payday

And I believe he will choose cash over playing for a winning team. See a lot of talk about him going to the Raiders in the comments. I cringe at the thought of seeing him in silver and black but it is a realistic possibility. This is one of those rare occasions where I am ok with a player leaving to get paid……because he deserves it.

Is his success in large part due to the system he's been in?

That will be the question interested teams will be asking. They’ll ask how could someone not drafted until the 7th round be so successful and then they’ll answer their own question with “Drew Brees and Sean Payton.” Al Davis is now making deals on the great gridiron in the sky, so I don’t think even the Raiders would overpay for Colston. He could go elsewhere but he’s most likely to stay where he knows he’ll have the most success and remain the no. 1 WR.

"As soon as Tony (Dungy) said we had no chance, I knew we had 'em right where we wanted 'em"--Coach Sean Payton right after Super Bowl XLIV with the Lombardi Trophy firmly in hand. WHO DAT!!

no it is not (a product of the system..)

sure the system makes him look pretty good.. same as every outstanding guy in the league..
when teams evaluate a player they are not looking at the broadcast film.. but the coaches film.. i don’t get to see it, either.. but with just the few samples thru the last 6 years and testimonies of respected passing gurus such as gruden & the “nfl-playbook” guys.. i would say that this guy would step into any offense & become the QB’s favorite guy withing weeks..
he can play all X, Y & Z positions.. which is extremely rare, specially for a large guy.. he’s got a lot of sneaky speed.. he’ll consistently go in the middle & make that 1st down catch.. he takes some of the most vicious hits & he gets up.. he never disrupts or creates any attention.. for all purposes he doesn’t speak english.. & plays exactly the same every game..
he is, imo.. a top 5 receiver in the game, when you tally up all the measurables along with intangibles..

Sean Payton calls the plays and Drew Brees throws the ball, but Colston still has to catch it. And he does that better than almost anyone in the league. He has Velcro™ hands.

here's a comprehensive statistical study of this year's WRs..

as you would expect.. the players with a solid-to-good QB, in a solid-to-good passing offense tend to go to the top..
interesting that, for example fitz with arizona.. is sort of low in the numbers, even tho most feel he is probably one of the better all purpose receivers.. bet his numbers were a lot better with warner at QB..

hahaha

posters thinking they could get him for 2-3 mil a year. If that’s the case, he’s not going anywhere!!!

there are a lot of quality receivers in this year's free agent crop

Let’s hope Colston gets lost in the crowd. At 6’4", it’s not likely though.

If you are Drew and PayLoo says we can keep Nicks or we can keep Colston, which do you pick?

I say Colston

I agree 100%

Brees has done gr8 with all receivers, but Colston has always been the receiver he can depend on when needed. I hope we think twice before letting him go. I know we have plenty of receivers that are all great, but to let, who I think is, our best go? It will all depend on where we stand $ wise after signing Brees.
