What Up With Dat?: Three Strikes, I'm Out
Below are my answers to last weeks reader questions submitted Friday. Special thanks to all those that participated. Feel free to continue the discussion on any of these topics in the comment section below.
Based on the recent decline in participation, I think we'll be cutting back the frequency of our 'What Up With Dat' series to every other week.

Do you think the Panthers will be a serious threat in the division next season? -Mike R.
Absolutely. That doesn't mean I think they will win the division, but they will absolutely be a threat. The NFC South is the most unpredictable division in the league. Worst to first a regular occurrence so it could actually be the Buccaneers we all need to fear.
How many years and how much money will be on Drew Brees' contract and who would you love to see perform at the Super Bowl halftime show? - Cameron.T
To answer the first part of your question, I would say the length of Drew's new contract will be six years and I think it will be worth at least $95 million dollars, if not more. When all is said and done, Brees could become the highest paid quarterback in the NFL, and rightly so.
As far as the Super Bowl halftime show, I'd love to see Billy Joel perform since they've already had both Tom Petty and the Stones fairly recently. Perhaps Billy will be the choice when the Super Bowl is played in New York. If we're talking about Super Bowl XLVII here in New Orleans next year, I think you've got to go with some sort of ensemble performance of local artists including but not limited to acts like Rebirth (Grammy winning), Trombone Shorty, Dr. John, Better than Ezra, Harry Connick, Jr., Kermit Ruffins, Jon Cleary, Amanda Shaw, Irma Thomas, Allen Touissant, anyone with the last name Marsalis or Batiste...
Do you think this years play-off loss, really drove us into hibernation more than usual. - Chad L
Nah. I'd say things are running as normal. The off-season just sucks donkey balls.

Hello from Atlanta!
Quick question. If Drew were to walk (which I don’t see happening in any way), how would yall’s expectations for next season change? Obviously he is a top 3 QB so the expectations would clearly drop, but do you think Chase Daniel could get the job done? Or do you think you’d drop to a bottom feeder?

I'd say minimum 8-8.
What a lot of people seem to not realize is the depth we have at running back. If Drew were to leave (knock on wood), we would likely turn into a run first team. With Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas, Chris Ivory, and Darren Sproles, I feel like we would still be a competitive team. The defense would really have to step up and prove there worth though.
Drew Brees- the REAL MVP.
That's a ridiculous statement.
We have two of the three best guards in the line, with still enough receiving threats to force teams out of playing 8 in the box. When I say run-first, I’m not saying polar opposite of our offense now. As opposed to the 60-40 we have been at most of Payton’s time here, I feel like we would be closer to 55/45 in run/pass ratio. I still think Chase would get 2700-3000 yards, and at least 20 TDs, but our rushing yards would skyrocket to 2000+ yards and 27+ TDs.
Drew Brees- the REAL MVP.
I'd like to point something out
Mr. Swift strongly disagreed with Xen’s point, and instead of calling Xen stupid or a moron, he directed his energy at the argument:
That’s a ridiculous statement.
and then explained why. I want this noted as a very appropriate way to disagree strongly and respond within the community guidelines.

Ok Hans Petersen/Dat,
If I ever strongly disagree with someone I will do it as Mr.Swift has done.

I have a question for you.
Is it Petersen or Peterman?
by Legatron Morstead on Feb 21, 2012 8:38 PM CST up reply actions
That's Mr. Petersen to you, sir!!
It’s Peterman only to his closest friends.
And to those of us who know where the bodies are buried…..it’s CLAYTON.
~Anything by Yogi Berra~
where did you bury Clayton?
and why’d you kill him before I could talk to him???

yo swift, where has our running game been?
We have had this guard combo for a while now and nada in the running game. Why will this change? The problem is that we are bad with drew. If he left we would have more trouble running because teams would load the box (heh).
As usual, I am highly offended that someone disagreed with me. From gods mouth to your ears, alex.

Where has our running game been?!?!?!
Really dude? 6th in the league in rushing this year, 28th a year ago where TUSK!!!!! led the team in rushing (remember how we lost every back imaginable to injury at some point?), 6th the year before. Most people seem to not realize how effectively we run the ball, because the focus is always on our potent passing attack. These stats are even more impressive based on our completely pass-first offense. If Drew were to leave (knock on wood), we would switch to a run-first team, and quite probably jump to first in the league in rushing (barring injuries to our RB corps)
Drew Brees- the REAL MVP.
That ranking is misleading.
If we try to turn into a run first team, I don’t think we can win. Brees opened up more of the running game. I really don’t want to find out if we can do this so hopefully Brees will hurry up and sign so we can get these pieces in place for another run at the trophy.
Ha! It's Petersen by birth
but Peterman is actually starting to grow on me…

Why is this turning into an etiquette post? Who did what to whom? If you people start treating each other with respect I won’t even know where I am posting anymore. Seriously, HP, how can anyone disagree without calling someone a name or two, using foul language and hyperbole, and generally taking a giant dump on the message board in this here blog?

We would turn into the Colts, only a little bit better.
I’d say 5-11 to 7-9, if we’re lucky 8-8. I really think some of our players are not as good as they seem. It all just comes down to Drew Brees is an excellent quarterback and works extremely well with what he has.

y'all too nice..
where i come from, trolls are spun in records & thrown into ventilating fans for shredding..
if any of us was to go into a rival blog-page & bring up hipothetical disaster just to create a reaction, we’d take a mob beating.. specially coming at a somewhat delicate time with uncertainty in the air..

May I ask, where are you exactly from then?
But now I see your point, instead of burn him alive can we tar and feather him? He is a dirty bird.

Cat's Eye
Based on a trio of short stories by Stephen King…with a young Drew Barrymore in the final tale of terror, and a cat that rolls through each story, with allusions to other King works…
Also featuring: James Woods, Alan King, Robert Hayes.

Screw non-Nola acts....
The Superbowl should be ALL NOLA!!! They can bring out Shamarr Allen and his cover of Crazy (and they probably should have him do a tribute to Louis Armstrong). As long as it’s Nola, I’m good.
