Super Bowl XLVI: Game Predictions

If you thought that we were just going to abandon everyone's favorite prediction contest the Friday before the biggest NFL game of the year...then you're probably not the brightest knife in the tool shed. So, for old time's sake, we're taking one last trip around the bases before officially putting our contest to bed for the 2011 season.

By now you should all know what to do and how to do it, but just in case you don't, you can catch up on the rules of the game right here. As always, all are welcome to partake, including non-Saints fans. This is a great opportunity for those readers who have never signed up or commented to finally dip their toe in the water.

Let's get this Super Bowl prediction party started! Good luck to everyone!

Giants 34 - Patriots 27

1) Manning has the better overall QB rating over Brady.
2) Brady sacked three times
3) Patriots Defense returns to its crapulent ways and allows over 525 total yards on it.

Bonus: We see at least one image of the Manning face, and the displeased Brady face.

Bonus 2: Giselle’s request for prayers for Brady and the Pat’s falls short. Armageddon ensues. Fornication runs rampant as the end of the world approaches.

Patriots 27, Giants 20

The disrespected unit once more proves to be the difference-maker…in this case, the Patriots’ defense.

1. The Patriots have more sacks than the Giants.

2. Julian Edelman has an interception.

3. The Saints would have beaten either team by 2 scores.

Giants 28 - Patriots 24

1. Giselle’s request for prayers is answered every time NY sacks Brady (which will be 3 times). The Giants kneel down over him and offer prayers.
2. Tyree’s helmet catch is shown/referred to at least 3 times.
3. Victor Cruz (control) has a 40+ yard catch or catch+run.
Bonus: Peyton Manning is brought up at least 5 times, with at least one cut away to where he is watching the game.
Bonus 2: When Eli wins the announcers will crown him as elite, surpassing his bigger brother.

Patriots 31 Giants 24 ---Belicheck has been smiling all week...which either means this games in the bag...or the end of the world is upon us.

1. Gronk plays the entire game.
2. Fostered by Wilfork, the Patriots control the line of scrimmage and hold the Giants to under 100 total rushing yards.
3. There will be at least one controversial moment surrounding either the national anthem…or the Madonna half-time show.

Patriots 24-Giants 17

1. Losing team will have 2 plus turnovers
2. Brady will throw for 300 plus yards.

Oh, and my one sure prediction is that I will be at the movies avoiding the SB cause I am still burning about the Saints not being in Indianapolis…and did I say before that Gregg Williams made an idiotic defensive play call that cost the Saints the season? OK. Gregg Williams made an idiotic defensive play call that cost the Saints the season. Not that I am bitter or anything.

  • “(insert Saints player’s name here) would have made that play”
  • “Well at least we didn’t have to see Jenkins and Harper try to cover (insert name of Pats TE here)”

fair question

I suppose the difference in my mind is that I’m not whining that SF’s victory was somehow illegitimate or they didn’t deserve it. I retain the belief that we’re a better team than either of the ones still playing, but since we didn’t get it done against SF, it doesn’t matter.

yeah BETTER TEAM SYNDROME

the common thread I see is that apart from the stuff about the refs cheating so the Saints could get into the Super Bowl, it seems many of the Wikes’ fans were saying that they were the better team.

Here’s the major difference: we’re not saying that the better team lost the SF game. They were better than us that day. We’re saying overall, we’re a better team than the Niners. They just played their butts off that game and beat us, fair and square. We’re not quoting our stats from the game and pointing and saying “See!?! We got jobbed! We had all these yards and all these TDs! We shoulda won! The better team lost! It was all bullcrap!”

Giants 26 Patriots 24

1) Tom Terrific unable to get Pats into FG range at the end of 4th Q.
2) Commercials this year are just ok, with no breakout “instant classic(s)” among them.
3) Neither team gains more than 100 yards rushing.

Giants 34 Pats 17

Brady is sacked at least 5 times.
Victor Cruz clears 200 receiving yards.
Hakeem Nicks clears 100 receiving yards.

And no, I don’t hate the Pats that much, I honestly believe they’re going to take a whipping. Matt Light is sick and hurt (when the Pats coaching staff calls an injury “minor” do we really believe them?). The Giants have guys at DE that would be at the top of other teams’ depth charts rotating in off their bench. The Patriots are one dimensional on offense while the Giants are balanced. The Pats have no real deep threat to stretch the field in their passing game. All their big plays come after the catch these days, and I wouldn’t count on the Giants consistently missing tackles. The Pats most dynamic weapon has a high ankle sprain. The Patriots defense really is that sorry. It’s Wilfork, Mayo, and then basically a practice squad in the secondary. The Giants made it to the Super Bowl playing the toughest schedule in the NFL. Eli Manning has been the better QB in the playoffs (I’m obviously glossing over the Broncos debacle: it shouldn’t count for anything). If the Pats can manage to generate some turnovers somehow, they may hang in it for awhile. If not, the Giants win this running away.
