So talk Your Favorite Saints players

Talk you favorite Coaches

Favorite Fans

Or just talk nonsense, it's all good here.

Let me stress the need to keep things civil, or this thread will soon go the way of other good intentions. I advise everyone to read all the rules. Particularly the ones involving profanity and treating each other with respect.

What's a Perpetually Open Thread? I'll tell you! This is a thread dedicated to all off topic conversations. If there's something that you want to talk about that isn't really relevant to Saints football, can be discussed here. Think about this as a bar/hangout place for people who just want to have some fun with other Saints/football fans.

The whole reason for this thread is to help bring people together and help them get to know other fans on a more personal basis. If this turns out to be a popular activity, we hope to continue this concept as long as possible. However, there are some rules/constraints we have to put on some conversations in order to make sure everyone has an enjoyable experience.

  • The other SBN and CSC rules still apply. No racist, sexist, or personal attacks on anyone. It's vulgar in other venues, it's still vulgar here.
  • As well, no politics or religion talk. Nothing good can come from it.
  • If you think something is Not Safe For Work, don't post it, link it instead.
  • Just because this is an Off-Topic thread, does not mean football talk is off limits! Just remember, keep arguments rational, and don't get personal. If you feel things are getting too heated, step away and take a breath.
  • No trolling. We don't want it, no need for it.
  • On that same vein as the previous rule, you may see some inside jokes. Don't assume you know what's what, make sure to find out what's going on before getting upset.
  • Please rec this thread to make sure this thread stays up until we are ready to dispose of it.
  • No swearing

If you have any troubles with anything going on with this thread, feel free to email me with any concerns about these threads. So long as you come with a mentality of having a good time, and plan on being friendly, we can have all have fun and not have to have mods come in and clean up.

Have fun!

by AcquiredPanic on Feb 4, 2012 8:56 PM CST up reply actions

I had it
1. Drew Brees
2. Rickey Jackson
3. Willie Roaf
4. Deuce McAllister

…and that’s as far as I could get. I can’t make a case for any other great (relatively) Saints player being any better than another. I’d like to mention Morten Andersen, but putting a kicker in the top 5 is just painful.

What! shall we curse the planets of mishap
That plotted thus our glory's overthrow?

by MtnExile on Feb 4, 2012 8:30 PM CST reply actions

I was actually going to put Morten up there...

But as our choices are so limited, I wanted to let everybody else list their favs. And this is Saints fan favorite players, not the NFL’s choices, so that gives us some latitude. All-time Saints doesn’t necessarily mean Great, just who we felt meant the most to the team and fans, while they were with the team.
Deuce will be considered the second most loved Saint of alltime, not necessarily the 2nd Best Saint to wear the Black-N-Gold. IMHO
And I think Morten Anderson should be in the HOF, even if he was just a kicker. He was and is the all-time points leader.

1) when did the grocery store stop selling 6-packs in 12oz cans? when did they go to 10oz cans? they look funny

2) is it true bones heal, chicks dig scars and glory is forever?

3) did anyone else just find out that leonard cohen wrote chelsea hotel about janis joplin?

4) think brees might say “ohh just give me 50 mil and use the rest to better the team”?

5) i wonder if kat would go to the bar the dropkick murphys own and pick me up a t-shirt

6) why does my son think ghost farts smell like banana bread?

I actually thought Brady had a fairly decent game.

People point to a few passes being behind receivers…but a couple of those throws were the receivers faults for not staying in the soft part of the zone coverage like they should have known to do.

I’m surely not going to blame a wife for defending her husband and being slightly flabbergasted at highly paid athletes not being able to catch a ball when it hits them in the hands. Did she break a supposed “code”…sure. Should she have been allowed to in the heat of the moment especially being a spouse and not actually a member of the team…definitely. Frankly if I was a Pats fan or an actual member of the team…I’d be more pissed off at the fact that Giants fans were being asses and coming after his wife to begin with and heckling her after the game that caused her to speak an off-handed comment to begin with. Family is off limits…anybody that’s not an ass knows that.

-Lombardi was wrong...it's the internet, not fatigue that makes cowards of us all. But then again, what do you expect. Not like the guy could see the future.

by jeff.l.b on Feb 6, 2012 4:49 PM CST up reply actions

then I suppose I'm just an ass...

I think the Pats organization has handled worse heckling in the past with much more class…her comments, especially allowing them to be captured publicly, are not typical of the way Belichick runs things.

by snowboard_kat on Feb 7, 2012 2:14 AM CST up reply actions

it goes beyond the "patriot" mold, to me..

it’s a separate world that “the wife” needs to understand.. and needs NOT to butt into..
there have been other visible wives before and even if all this sounds a little chauvinistic, it is a job related matter after all.. (does tom opinionate on gisele’s modeling affairs..?)
i remember curt warner’s wife expressing her discontent when warner was being attacked..
i just can’t imagine drew’s old lady after the niners game going all pissed off:
“that dam defense needs to tackle somebody.. my husband can’t play defense too.. he had the game won, twice..”

by the 9th plague on Feb 7, 2012 6:24 AM CST up reply actions

Man, this guy was hurting, no doubt about it

Such a fierce competitor to fall twice to the same team in the Superbowl’s just gotta hurt this guy like crazy. Yeah, maybe she was out of line. Maybe it disrupts things a little on the team. Maybe Tom gets a little cold shoulder. But, I think he’d be bloody glad that his wife was ripping up for him. This guy hates to love more than just about anybody I have ever seen. That she ripped up and snarled some is just way cool to me. I know my dangerous lady would do the same.

by singleblow on Feb 7, 2012 9:02 AM CST up reply actions

agree...

regardless of where you place blame, that’s her husband’s team, and you don’t mess with the team dynamic, especially the mojo a QB has with his WR.

Hey Gisele…Tom threw an interception in the 4th quarter…maybe he should throw the ball to members of his own team…

by snowboard_kat on Feb 7, 2012 7:24 AM CST up reply actions

She can't be blamed for not seeing someone well behind her having a camera.

People say things in the heat of the moment. It’s why reporters don’t go into a locker room until 15 minutes after the game. People need to cool down. She wasn’t given that. People are making a much bigger deal over this than it really is…especially in Boston. I read yesterday how Brady now has to “win back” fans because of what his wife did…which is frankly a ridiculous statement.

-Lombardi was wrong...it's the internet, not fatigue that makes cowards of us all. But then again, what do you expect. Not like the guy could see the future.

by jeff.l.b on Feb 7, 2012 10:00 AM CST up reply actions

personally Jeff, I don't care...

some fans are upset, some are not…it’s a Boston thing. If you don’t live here you wouldn’t understand it. That said, it’s not as big of an issue here as you’ve been led to believe it is. We are wasting more breath on it in the thread than people on the street are here…

by snowboard_kat on Feb 7, 2012 10:50 AM CST up reply actions

and I’m not blaming her for anything. I am simply expressing my opinion in a public open thread, an opinion you are twisting for the purpose of baiting me into an argument or berating me for a comment that you misconstrue… because that’s what you do.

I have no idea why you seem to be angry with me. I cannot remember a single time ever I have treated you badly in any regard what so ever. I have not once berated you at all. I actually like you quite a bit. However, if for some reason you seem to think I’m coming after you…fine. I’ll leave you in peace. I’m sorry you felt that way. I’ll leave you and your friends be.

To all here on the off topic thread…please take care.

by snowboard_kat on Aug 18, 2011 5:38 AM EDT

You forgot my previous statement already it seems. And there’s nothing wrong with Snooki (granted I have never watched the show). Wash off the spray on tan and get rid of the ridiculous hairdo and she’s a perfectly normal girl as far as appearance is concerned.

I was wrong before…this isn’t coming off as jealousy…this obviously is jealousy. Not to mention that not everyone rocks it in a swimsuit Kat. How do you honestly think the rest of us feel who unfortunately fall under the category of less than attractive when you and the rest of CSC bash perfectly decent looking people as disgusting and unattractive?

I’m sorry. I apologize for being an ugly, fat, bald guy. For no reason over the last month or so I’ve tried to be nothing but nice and complimentary toward you. Yet at every turn I get stoned by you and apparently everyone else at CSC. Fine…I won’t fight you. You and everyone else can have CSC and Pats Nation and everyone else you choose to go. Consider it my fault. After nearly 40 years…you’d think the ugly outsider should know better than to try and make pleasant with the cool goods.

Good bye everyone, I truly do wish you all the best. I won’t go where I’m obviously not wanted again. Please tell Friar Bob, ME and the rest of the homers that have been waiting for my demise that I said goodbye.

In my graduating year in college, I had to take this professional engineering exam. And, it was on the on the day after Halloween. So, the night of Halloween, I go out dressed up as a clown. BIG read smile on a white face and everything. So, that night, I go to bed and wake up the next day ready to take my exam. I had forgot to take the smile off the night before, so I went to take it off. It wouldn’t come off! So, I go to school, step into an auditorium full of engineering students. One turns around and glances as the door opens. Of course, he busts out laughing and the rest of the auditorium turns around. I mean you should hae heard the roar.

by singleblow on Feb 7, 2012 2:59 PM CST reply actions

Nice!

Engineers are crazy.

There were two of my good friends that were taking our last Finance course before graduating. It was a beast of a 100% final. We had been killing ourselves studying and each of us were super stressed out leading up to the exam. The exam was held in a large auditorium. Just as we were all settling in to prepare, the moderators were going over the rules of the exam room (what to do if you needed more exam booklets, needed to use the crapper, etc). Two of our other friends (both engineering students) had planned to help us destress. They tore into the auditorium wearing skimasks and jock straps and thats it. Running up and down the aisles screaming their heads off. One proceeded to get onto the stage at the front of the auditorium and began to do some form of crotch thrusting type of dance at the moderators.

Only way we knew it was our buddies was because of the symbol painted on their chest (a little design someone made up for our group of university buddies). Whether it calmed us down or it skewed the curve, we all made it through that bitch.

it’s part of the keyboard on android phones.

by singleblow on Feb 8, 2012 2:46 PM CST up reply actions

the primary use is to replace/reduce typing in the input fields…

but, Android does have a low level Siri-like feature that you can say…

“navigate to jack in the box” and it will open the Navigator app and get you to the closest jack in the box.

there are a few other things it can do, but it’s no Siri (iPhone 4S)

I keep envisioning a phone with a stereo headset and no display, no keyboard.

Can you imagine? All you would need is two earbuds (connected by wire or bluetooth) and a mike. That’s it! You should be able to make it about the size of the current bluetooth earpiece with the addition of a single earbud!

by singleblow on Feb 8, 2012 2:55 PM CST up reply actions

but how will you watch your videos?

how will you browse your albums?

(they will never get rid of some sort of visual display)

by Dan Kelly on Feb 8, 2012 3:09 PM CST up reply actions

Why not? For something I'm going to be carrying around with me, I don't need video.

You could always have a hookup at home for watching videos, etc. I think a voice-only system could be pretty cool with very few drawbacks. I mean, worst case, you could have it hook up to display/keyboard as a back up, in case you were really desparate. Heck, heads-up displays in sunglasses could do the video pretty completely. Well, maybe not today. I haven’t researched that piece, so much, since I don’t think it’s really necessary. 99.999% of the time you type or look at a display is to make decisions. Not needed. I’ll watch my youtubes and movies at home on a real screen (or HUD), thank you very much!

no offense taken…

different strokes for different folks…

they have iPods without displays.

the one with displays outsell them by a big margin, but there are people that don’t need displays.

but, you do need displays for apps… and that’s really why the iPhone/Android exists… to enable apps.

there may be ear piece phones in the future… it’s almost a certainty… but it will just be a phone and maybe an mp3 player.

some people will buy it (and love it)…. and many more (10x+) will buy the latest iPhone/Android phone.

Easy peasy

In the regular season, points are awarded for each game. Two points are awarded for a win, one point for losing in overtime or a shootout, and zero points for a loss in regulation.

So the winning team will always get two points. The losing team can get a single point if they get to OT or the subsequent shoot-out, and get bupkus if they lose in regular time.

I will say that Drew Brees and our guards will make the hall of fame because of the production of these next few years, but the super bowl will not be within grasp. After Brees is done, Sean will leave, and the Saints will be at the bottom of the barrel like a tampon clogged in a drain pipe.

One of the mechanics, he was a big guy, thought it would be fun to teach us how to play rugby so we could play when we stopped by Australia on our way back to the states. Needless to say, there wasn’t a lot of contact because of the non-skid on the surface. It was ……. interesting. I didn’t actually play when I got to Australia, I was too busy doing what Sailors do best. Drink copious amounts of alcohol and spending all my money on strippers.

After 7 rec's it doesn't really matter, but thanks.

They all fall off the front page after 14 days, unless Dave makes it a featured story. Not going to happen with a Lagniappe thread. Just Bookmark this one, or go to the Fanpost page to find it, for now. I’ll work on another one later when thing pick up. Scouting combines are about to start so things should pick up. Also if you make a comment a day, you can always go to your profile page, to link up to your last comment, to get to it quickly. That’s what I’ll do.

Sure of course

I think mostly the native NO’s commentors are fewer, and the Banks/PUD/Kat Army etc found something to do. LOL

I'm here

cause in sucky central california, they don’t really celebrate mardi gras. Hell most of the people are not catholic.

Hell most of the people are not catholic.

That would be The United States of America.

I used to care, but things have changed

Just saying that cause Mardi Gras is supposedly catholic oriented festivity. The Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. I know the protestants don’t celebrate lent, so how Mardi Gras caught on, I have no idea. I thought it was all the drunk Irish Catholics

by Saintsfan75 on Feb 21, 2012 3:17 AM CST up reply actions

Actually French and Spanish Catholics

i.e. “The French Quarter” built by the Spanish, or Carnival in Rio,…… the Irish came later

yeah I knew about the French and Spanish

after all we did buy Louisiana from Napoleon. And Orleans is a city in France. Plus the whole french creole thing. The only reason I mentioned the Irish is because they are famous for being the drunk catholics.

I know most of you guys are LSU fans...

So I figured I’d ask some educated people. What do you guys think of Rueben Randle? It’s not a very well hidden secret that the Patriots may look for a WR in the draft, so it’d be awesome to have a better feeling about this guy.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, that's what most scouting report say...

But I was looking for something more specific, like is he a good route-runner, does he read zone well, does he get separation, or are his catches a result of a mismatch in size vs the corners? Is he fast? Quick? And the intangibles, like, did he have off the field issues?

Thanks for the answer though.

by Lythos on Feb 19, 2012 12:17 PM CST up reply actions

From what I've seen

Route runner= Above Avg
Zone reads= Above Avg.
Good Hands
Size Mis-matches, outside of Bama or LSUs’ secondary, no real outstanding DB’s in SEC.
Deep Threat = Yes
No Off Field problems.
This past season with J.Lee, Randle was a fav. target, when JJ came in it was chaos and the option, thanks to Coach Miles’ lack of medication.
