Two Middle Fingers

This "scandal" has to be the most blown out of proportion sports news topic in years. I cannot believe all the "holier than thou" fans that are coming out of the woodwork to shake their heads in disappointment. What kind of happy fuzzy bunny world do you think we live in? These players get paid to play a violent sport and we all are fans of that sport. Nobody had a problem with destroying the quarterback or "jacking" a player up several years ago. Now we consider these same hits "dirty" just because the league has gone soft and tells us they are. How many people cheered the game on for years and never said "Oh wow, I wish they would make this game less violent?" No one had a problem with this game being too violent until a small percentage of individuals decided that it was and it seems to disagree with any of it causes you to be labeled unethical and immoral.

"Bounty" doesn't seem to be the right word to describe this scandal or the system that caused it. "Make a Big Play" seems to be a better word to describe what actually occurred. The word "bounty" is being used by the media because of the images that enter the mind when that word is read. When I first see the word, I picture old west lawmen chasing down an outlaw and taking him dead or alive at any cost. This is propaganda to make a big story out of a non story. This isn't the same thing as betting between team mates on who will make an interception, sack, big play, or big hit. If the money being bet was of a larger value than what it actually was, people might have a better case for trying to sell you on the point that these players were glorified "killers for hire." The betting was about bragging rights in the locker room, not about making money by laying someone out.

A major complaint within the Saints fan base was that we didn't get enough media coverage and that we didn't get enough respect from the major NFL analysts......well here you go, you got what you wanted. These kinds of scandals are what winners and contenders have to deal with....get used to it. Once you are a winner, you have to deal with these kinds of issues and be prepared for people digging skeletons out of your closet. You are now a target. Do you think this would been such a big deal if it was the Browns.....no it wouldn't have been. It's a big deal and a story because we have been breaking NFL records and have a recent Super Bowl ring. This isn't gonna go away so I would go ahead and throw that idea out of your mind. We are now forever labeled a "dirty" team and the villain but I must say.....I kinda like it. After years of being made fun of, we are now what we always wanted to be...... the successful and hated team on top. I suggest to all loyal Saints fans to accept the hate, get an "us against the world" mentality, throw both your middle fingers up, and embrace being the bad guy......
