Man this is absolutely priceless stuff. Here is a link to the article: http://www.theonion.com/articles/details-of-the-nfl-bounty-scandal,27589/
"The NFL’s bounty investigation has triggered one of the biggest scandals in league history, and it’s no simple matter. Onion Sports breaks down the most important points:
- Then-Saints defensive coordinator came up with the plan as a tax dodge when his old system of fining players for leaving opponents unhurt generated too much income
- The 31 NFL defensive coordinators who are not Gregg Williams heard the words "NFL bounty scandal" and began sweating
- When the bounty program was suspended out of fear of discovery during the 2010 playoffs, Saints defensive players went on a tackling strike against Marshawn Lynch and the Seahawks in the Wild Card round
- Pool to injure Brett Favre was actually funded by fans across the country, every other team in the league, and the NFL itself"
The Onion, as usual, manages to distill the entire event in a few terse sentences. The second point implies that all teams have systems like this and of course, we all know that the Saints weren't the only ones engaging in this kind of behavior. Naturally, this doesn't make it right, but still.
My favorite line is the last one about Brett Favre. Enough said.
Anyway, just wanted to post this as a way to hopefully brighten everyone's day. This is an especially sad day now that Drew Brees has decided to hold out from training camp in an effort to make "Peyton Manning money." Even though Peyton Manning isn't making Peyton Manning money. Sigh.
