Good morning. Yeah, I’m the Saints fan that’s up all hours, lurking on CSC and checking around the web for any news on our team. I was checking out the AP story from yesterday evening about Drew filing an affidavit backing Jonathan Vilma’s lawsuit. Okay, all good. And…then at the bottom of the page I find the comment section.
What is it about these people that renders them unable to understand the differences between a pay for performance system and a pay for injury system? And where in the vast pile of media goo that has been produced regarding Bountyfarce (not going to give this foolishness the credibility of referring to it as a "gate") did butthead GW "admit to running a bounty program?"
Among other comments I saw were "Saints need to admit they were dirty and got caught;" "Saints fans have got to stop claiming their team is innocent;" and "how can they say they didn’t do anything in the face of the evidence?" Yeah…that tremendous MOUNTAIN of evidence that Godell and his lackeys have produced. Color me unimpressed. Why isn’t everyone comparing that "evidence" against the punishments handed down (which were the largest levied against a professional sports team?)
I know I shouldn’t let such foolishness get under my skin, but I just don’t get it. Are some people just that blind to the facts? Or can they be so closed minded? I’m the first to admit our team isn’t perfect. Yes, we broke the rules by running a program to pay players in an attempt to incentivize them to perform. But you know what? It’s okay. I’ve been there since the beginnings, and I’ll be there till the day I die. It doesn’t matter what they think. I still have a huge fleur-de-lis on the back window of my pickup (though it’s getting faded) and Saints items posted on the wall of my office. That's one thing that will never change!
